"Hair of the Dog" and "Slow Ride" are good choices....but I would prefer some original tunes.

Not likely to happen anytime soon with the radio gig.

Last I heard DLR and his band had "an albums worth of songs in the can."

Love her!

and Sugar Pie, too. Two of my favorite tunes to throw on while I'm gettin' up to get down are "Slip On Mules" and "Soulful Dress".

I really dig Etta and Sugar Pie singing together! two very cool voices. And even though Etta is way the fuck up there, I would love to hear her and Dave bang out a tune.

Hows about "Mockingbird"?

Etta: "And if that mockingbird don't sing, he's gonna buy me a diamond ring"

Dave: "A diamond WHAT?"

Ize been on a Doors kick lately. Read a cool book by Stephen Davis,"Jim Morrison:Legend, Life, and Death."...an' I found out that Meyer Lansky was also being tried in Miami the same time as Mr. Mojo Risin' and Morrison was sleeping with one of the gangster's mistresses. When he found out about thiz...it only motivated him more!!...an' I read that Ronald Reagan was going to pardon Jim but at the last minute reneged...you couldn't mention Ronald's name 'round The Lizard King after that or he'd break into a fit of cursing...an' I also read that Elvis copied Morrison's black leather look for the '68 Comeback Special...lastly, the book said that Harrison Ford was a part of The Doors road crew...

Nah we talkin' some blues right here, right nah yez yez yez...talkin' the three b's...not Bach, Brahms, and Beethoven...talkin' barrelhouse, blues, and the natch'l boogie woogie nah I said yez...alright alright...Yez Yeah, baby!!

Nothin' but the best and later for the garbage.

Maggie M'Gill--The Doors

Hoodoo Man--Junior Wells

44 Long--Rufus Thomas

Rock Me Baby--Muddy Waters style

Big Joe Williams wrote Baby Please Don't Go...although legend has it, he stole the song from Bessie Smith, The Empress Of The Blues. My favourite version of the tune is by Memphis Slim, although I think F.O.R.D. would agree that AC/DC did the greates' version.

Tiny Bradshaw wrote Train Kept A Rollin', also the first song Led Zeppelin ever jammed on.

Well, they didn't do the original.

They only did 2 albums. The first sucked, but had Black Betty on it.

Get "Portrait of the Artist as a Young Ram". It hasn't got Black Betty on it, but its a gem.

I HATE your opinion. I LOVED it when VH, LZ, The Who, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, The Rolling Stones, John Lee Hooker, Howlin' Wolf, Bling Dog Fulton, Robert Johnson, Mississippi Fred McDowell, R.L. Burnside, Son House, or Muddy Waters soup'd up a dreaded cover tune. LOVE IT!!!!!!!

Well. If Dave is never to release an all-through original album like "DLR Band", after all, as we are some to agree with the idea, what if he got into the blues, his huge voice would just fit perfectly... It's almost obvious.

So, here's another suggestion: "Taj Mahal's "Corrina".

I got a bird wanna whistles
Baby, got a bird
Honey got a bird 't will sing
Baby, got a bird
Honey got a bird 't will sing

Without my Corinna
Sure don't mean
Sure don't mean a natural thing
Oh, I learned to love you
Baby, for I call
Honey, for I call your name
Baby, for I call
Honey, for I call out your name
I wouldn't trade your love for money
Baby, you're my warm hearts
Honey, you're my warm hearts flame
Oh, oh, oh (Corinna)
(Hmm, ain't nothing like my Corinna)
(Na, na, na, na, na, na, na (Corinna)
(Hmm, ain't nothing like my Corinna)
Have mercy, have mercy, baby
Honey, you're my hard luck
Baby, you're my hard luck soul
Honey, you're my hard luck
Women, on my hard luck soul
Got a rainbow round my shoulder
Shine like silver
Looks like some ol' fools' gold

-solo-

(Ooh, ah, ooh)
(Corinna) Oh, oh
(Hmm, ain't nothing like my Corinna)
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, ooh
(Corinna) (Hmm, ain't nothing like my Corinna)

Well, I love you so much, honey
Gotta tell the world
Baby, baby, tell the world I do
(Corinna)
Oh, honey tell the world
Baby, tell the world I do
You know, you know, you know, you know
Ain't no man, ain't no man in fourteen countries
Gonna love me baby
Baby like the way you do
Hey, hey, hey
I got a bird wanna whistle
Baby, got a bird
Honey, got a bird will sing
Honey got a bird
Baby, got a bird that will sing
Oh, without my Corinna
Sure don't mean
Sure don't mean a natural thing
Gotta say it one more time (Corinna) Oh
(Hmm, ain't nothing like my Corinna)
Oh (Corinna)
(Hmm, ain't nothing like my Corinna)
Ain't nothin, nothin, nothin, nothin
(Hmm, ain't nothin like my Corinna)
Tell the world, tell the world about it (Corinna)
(Hmm, ain't nothin like my Corinna) Sing!
(Corinna) (Hmm) Ooh
(Ain't nothin like my Corinna) hee, hee
I like it when you...
(Hmm, ain't nothin like my)
Oh, oh, oh, oh, (Corinna) Oh
Corinna (Corinna)
(Hmm, ain't nothin like my Corinna)
Corinna, Corinna (Corinna)
(Hmm, ain't nothin like my Corinna)
Corinna, oh, oh, Corinna (Corinna)
(Hmm, ain't nothin like my Corinna)...

Don't ya love her madly
Don't ya need her badly
Don't ya love her ways
Tell me what you say

Don't ya love her madly
Wanna be her daddy
Don't ya love her face
Don't ya love her as she's walkin' out the door
Like she did one thousand times before

Don't ya love her ways
Tell me what you say
Don't ya love her as she's walkin' out the door

All your love
All your love
All your love
All your love

All your love is gone
So sing a lonely song
Of a deep blue dream
Seven horses seem to be on the mark

Yeah, don't you love her
Don't you love her as she's walkin' out the door

All your love
All your love
All your love

Yeah, all your love is gone
So sing a lonely song
Of a deep blue dream

You know what song I love? and everytime I hear it, i think of dave singing it...

its the theme to the Sopranos "Woke Up This Morning"

Woke up this morning. Got yourself a gun.
Mama always said you'd be the Chosen One.

She said: You're one in a million you've got to burn to shine,
But you were born under a bad sign, with a blue moon in your eyes.

Woke up this morning all the love has gone,
Your Papa never told you about right and wrong.

But you're looking good, baby, I believe you're feeling fine, (shame about it),
Born under a bad sign with a blue moon in your eyes.

Woke up this morning the world turned upside down,
Thing's ain't been the same since the Blues walked into town.

But you're one in a million you've got that shotgun shine.
Born under a bad sign, with a blue moon in your eyes.

Woke up this morning, when you woke up this morning,
When you woke up this morning, you got yourself a gun.

Down Brownie--ZZ Top

When I woke up this mornin'
had a smile run across my face.
My baby from town just had to get down,
come and drag me all over the place.

Gonta drive on a flatbed trailer truck
down on highway fifty-nine.
I had the blues and my baby, she knew
she's holdin' little piece of mind.

Down brownie,
my brownie downtown,
down brownie.

Got my share and I'm a black hand cottonfield
just to try and keep myself alive.
Eatin' red beans and rice with the right sauce, it's nice
or anything you wanna try.

Now I'm hitchin' a ride back from Brownie's,
I'm kind of sad but I feel alright.
The cold night it stings but I got me some wings,
I'll be flyin' into Houston tonight.

She Loves my Automobile--ZZ TOP

She don't love me, she love my automobile.
She don't love me, she love my automobile.
Well she would do anything just to slide behind the wheel.
She said what's it gonna take for you to lay your top on down?
She said what's it gonna take for you to lay your top on down?
I said honey why don't you ask me when we get to the outskirts of town.

Well now she don't care if I'm stoned or sloppy drunk.
Well she don't care if I'm stoned or sloppy drunk,
Long as she got the keys and there's a spare wheel in her trunk.

A little less conversation, a little more action please
All this aggravation aint satisfactioning me
A little more bite and a little less bark
A little less fight and a little more spark
Close your mouth and open up your heart and baby satisfy me
Satisfy me baby

Baby close your eyes and listen to the music
Drifting through a summer breeze
Its a groovy night and I can show you how to use it
Come along with me and put your mind at ease

A little less conversation, a little more action please
All this aggravation aint satisfactioning me
A little more bite and a little less bark
A little less fight and a little more spark
Close your mouth and open up your heart and baby satisfy me
Satisfy me baby

Come on baby Im tired of talking
Grab your coat and lets start walking
Come on, come on
Come on, come on
Come on, come on
Dont procrastinate, dont articulate
Girl its getting late, gettin upset waitin around

The Pusher

You know I smoked a lot of grass.
Oh Lord! I popped a lot of pills.
But I've never touched nothin'
That my spirit couldn't kill.
You know I've seen a lot of people walking 'round
With tombstones in their eyes.
But the pusher don't care
If you live -- or if you die.
God Damn! The pusher.
God Damn! The pusher.
I said God Damn! God damn the pusher man.
You know the dealer, the dealer is a man
With a lump of grass in his hand.
But the pusher is a monster
Not a natural man.
The dealer for a nickel
Goin to sell you lots of sweet dreams.
Ah...but the pusher will ruin your body;
Lord he'll leave your mind to scream.
God Damn! The pusher.
God Damn! God damn the pusher.
I said God Damn! God damn the pusher man.
Well now if I were the president of this land
You know I'd declare total war on the pusher man.
I'd cut him if he stands, and I'd shoot him if he run,
And I'd kill him with my bible, and my razor and my gun....
GOD DAMN! The pusher
God damn the pusher.

I'm shufflin' thru the Texas sand,
but my head's in Mississippi.
I'm shufflin' thru the Texas sand,
but my head's in Mississippi.
The blues has got a hold of me.
I believe I'm gettin' dizzy. (Spoken: Help me now.)

I keep thinkin' 'bout that night in Memphis,
Lord, I thought I was in Heaven.
I keep thinkin' 'bout that night in Memphis,
I thought I was in Heaven.
But I was stumblin' thru the parking lot
of an invisible seven eleven. (Spoken: What was I doin out there?)

Where's my head baby?
Somewhere in Mississippi.

Last night I saw a cowgirl.
She was floatin' across the ceiling.
And last night I saw a naked cowgirl.
She was floatin' across the ceiling.
She was mumblin to some howlin' wolf
about some voodoo healin'. Mmm Baby

Everything Is Broken--Bob Dylan

Broken lines, broken strings,
Broken threads, broken springs,
Broken idols, broken heads,
People sleeping in broken beds.
Ain't no use jiving
Ain't no use joking
Everything is broken.

Broken bottles, broken plates,
Broken switches, broken gates,
Broken dishes, broken parts,
Streets are filled with broken hearts.
Broken words never meant to be spoken,
Everything is broken.

Seem like every time you stop and turn around
Something else just hit the ground

Broken cutters, broken saws,
Broken buckles, broken laws,
Broken bodies, broken bones,
Broken voices on broken phones.
Take a deep breath, feel like you're chokin',
Everything is broken.

Every time you leave and go off someplace
Things fall to pieces in my face

Broken hands on broken ploughs,
Broken treaties, broken vows,
Broken pipes, broken tools,
People bending broken rules.
Hound dog howling, bull frog croaking,
Everything is broken.

Tombstone Blues--Bob Dylan

The sweet pretty things are in bed now of course
The city fathers they're trying to endorse
The reincarnation of Paul Revere's horse
But the town has no need to be nervous

The ghost of Belle Starr she hands down her wits
To Jezebel the nun she violently knits
A bald wig for Jack the Ripper who sits
At the head of the chamber of commerce

Mama's in the fact'ry
She ain't got no shoes
Daddy's in the alley
He's lookin' for the fuse
I'm in the streets
With the tombstone blues

The hysterical bride in the penny arcade
Screaming she moans, "I've just been made"
Then sends out for the doctor who pulls down the shade
Says, "My advice is to not let the boys in"

Now the medicine man comes and he shuffles inside
He walks with a swagger and he says to the bride
"Stop all this weeping, swallow your pride
You will not die, it's not poison"

Mama's in the fact'ry
She ain't got no shoes
Daddy's in the alley
He's lookin' for the fuse
I'm in the streets
With the tombstone blues

Well, John the Baptist after torturing a thief
Looks up at his hero the Commander-in-Chief
Saying, "Tell me great hero, but please make it brief
Is there a hole for me to get sick in?"

The Commander-in-Chief answers him while chasing a fly
Saying, "Death to all those who would whimper and cry"
And dropping a bar bell he points to the sky
Saving, "The sun's not yellow it's chicken"

Mama's in the fact'ry
She ain't got no shoes
Daddy's in the alley
He's lookin' for the fuse
I'm in the streets
With the tombstone blues

The king of the Philistines his soldiers to save
Put jawbones on their tombstones and flatters their graves
Puts the pied pipers in prison and fattens the slaves
Then sends them out to the jungle

Gypsy Davey with a blowtorch he burns out their camps
With his faithful slave Pedro behind him he tramps
With a fantastic collection of stamps
To win friends and influence his uncle

Mama's in the fact'ry
She ain't got no shoes
Daddy's in the alley
He's lookin' for the fuse
I'm in the streets
With the tombstone blues

The geometry of innocence flesh on the bone
Causes Galileo's math book to get thrown
At Delilah who sits worthlessly alone
But the tears on her cheeks are from laughter

Now I wish I could give Brother Bill his great thrill
I would set him in chains at the top of the hill
Then send out for some pillars and Cecil B. DeMille
He could die happily ever after

Mama's in the fact'ry
She ain't got no shoes
Daddy's in the alley
He's lookin' for the fuse
I'm in the streets
With the tombstone blues

Where Ma Raney and Beethoven once unwrapped their bed roll
Tuba players now rehearse around the flagpole
And the National Bank at a profit sells road maps for the soul
To the old folks home and the college

Now I wish I could write you a melody so plain
That could hold you dear lady from going insane
That could ease you and cool you and cease the pain
Of your useless and pointless knowledge

Mama's in the fact'ry
She ain't got no shoes
Daddy's in the alley
He's lookin' for the fuse
I'm in the streets
With the tombstone blues

Happy Rovin' Cowboy--Bob Nolan

Hear my song as I ride along
I'm a happy rovin' cowboy
Herdin' the dark clouds out of the sky
Keepin' the heavens blue

No where to go nothing to do
I'm a happy rovin' cowboy
Let me ride that long trail down to the end
Where the skies are always blue

I aint got a dime; I'm just spendin' my time
I'm a happy rovin' cowboy
Let me sing my song till they call me home
To the land beyond the blue

Cool Water--Sons Of The Pioneers

All day I face the barren waste without the taste of water,
Cool water.
Old Dan and I with throats burned dry and souls that cry for water,
Cool water.

The night are cool and I'm a fool each stars a pool of water,
Cool water.
But with the dawn I'll wake and yawn and carry on to water,
Cool water.

(Chorus)
Keep a movin' Dan, don't you listen to him Dan, he's a devil not a man
and he spreads the burnin' sand with water.
Dan can't you see that big green tree where the waters runnin' free
and it's waiting there for me and you.
Water, cool water.

The shadows sway and seem to say tonight we pray for water,
Cool water.
And way up there He'll hear our prayer and show us where there's water,
Cool Water.

Dan's feet are sore he's yearning for just one thing more than water,
Cool water.
Like me, I guess, he'd like to rest where there's no quest for water,
Cool water.

I Was There When It Happened--Jimmie Davis

There are some people, who say we cannot tell,
Whether we are saved or, whether all is well;
They say we only can hope and, trust that it is so,
But I was there when it happened and I guess I ought to know.

Yes, I know when Jesus saved me (yes, He saved my soul),
The very moment He forgave me (yes, He made me whole);
He took away my heavy burden (yes, He took my sin and),
And He gave me peace within (gave me peace within).
Satan can't make me doubt it (he can't make me doubt it),
It's real and I'm gonna shout it (I'm gonna shout it);
'Cause I was there when it happened (oh, my Lord),
and I guess I ought to know (yes, I ought to know).
Now, I don't care who tells me, salvation is not real,
Though the world may argue, that we cannot feel;
The heavy burdens lifted and the vile sins go,
But I was there when it happened and I guess I ought to know.

Love was like a song
A lovely melody
Our hearts would sing along
In perfect harmony
But you forgot all the words
While i still remember the tune
Each time our lips would cling
I heard a serenade
Of love and youth and spring
Forever to be played
But you forgot all the words
While i still remember the tune
We used to dance
Instead of walk
We used to sing
Instead of talk
Why was our love song
That used to be
Only the start of the blues for me
But songs are funny things
They never really die
And so my hope still clings
That someday you will try
To just remember the words
For i still remember the tune
When lonely lights are lit
And midnight songs will start
Our song i must admit
Still fills my hopeful heart
So please remember the words
For i still remember the tune

Death Valley Is Just Half Way To My Home--Lonnie Johnson

Looked down that long old lonesome road
Looked down that long old lonesome road
My poor feet is gettin' tired, but still I've got to go

There's no train to my home town, ain't but the one way to go
There's no train to my home town, ain't but the one way to go
That's mile after mile, trampin' that muddy road

It's just one thing, that worries me both night and day
Ain't but one thing, that worries me both night and day
There's a place they call Death Valley, and it's just halfway

You can't see a house, in twenty-five miles around
I can't see nobody, goin' towards my ol' home town
I've still got three hundred miles to go, and my poor feet is giving down

I can hear the wild cats and panthers, howl when the sun go down
Can you hear the wild cats and panthers, howlin' when the sun go down
And I've got to go through Death Valley, to get to my old home town

I've been trampin' this lonely road, forty nights and days
My poor legs is gettin' tired, don't help me someways
Cause I've got three hundred miles to go, trampin' in this mud and clay

Jesse James--Lesley Nelson-Burns

Vance Randolph collected this song in Arkansas in 1920 from a man who reportedly learned it from his father-in-law, "who had often entertained the James and Younger boys in his cabin."

Jesse James, living in St. Joseph, Missouri under his pseudonym "Thomas Howard" was shot by Robert Ford on April 4, 1882. Robert Ford was a member of Jesse's gang whom Jesse regarded as a friend. Ford shot Jesse in the back while Jesse was hanging a picture. According to Randolph the song became popular throughout the Midwest almost immediately after Jesse's death. Ford himself was shot in 1892 by another member of Jesse's gang.

Jesse James was a lad who killed many a man
He robbed the Glendale train;
He stole from the rich and he gave to the poor
He'd a hand and a heart and a brain.
Poor Jesse had a wife to mourn for his life,
Three children, they were brave;
But that dirty little coward that shot Mr. Howard
Has laid poor Jesse in his grave.

It was Robert Ford, that dirty little coward;
I wonder how he does feel
For he ate of Jesse's bread and he slept in Jesse's bed
Then laid poor Jesse in his grave.
Poor Jesse had a wife to mourn for his life,
Three children, they were brave;
But that dirty little coward that shot Mr. Howard
Has laid poor Jesse in his grave.

Jesse was a man, a friend to the poor
He never would see a man suffer pain,
And with his brother Frank he robbed the Chicago bank,
And stopped the Glendale train.
Poor Jesse had a wife to mourn for his life,
Three children, they were brave;
But that dirty little coward that shot Mr. Howard
Has laid poor Jesse in his grave.

It was his brother Frank that robbed the Gallatin bank,
And carried the money from the town;
It was in this very place that they had a little race,
For they shot Captain Sheets to the ground.
Poor Jesse had a wife to mourn for his life,
Three children, they were brave;
But that dirty little coward that shot Mr. Howard
Has laid poor Jesse in his grave.

They went to the crossing not very far from there,
And there they did the same;
With the agent on his knees, he delivered up the keys
To the outlaws, Frank and Jesse James.
Poor Jesse had a wife to mourn for his life,
Three children, they were brave;
But that dirty little coward that shot Mr. Howard
Has laid poor Jesse in his grave.

It was on Saturday night, Jesse was at home
Talking with his family brave,
Robert Ford came along like a thief in the night
And laid poor Jesse in his grave.
Poor Jesse had a wife to mourn for his life,
Three children, they were brave;
But that dirty little coward that shot Mr. Howard
Has laid poor Jesse in his grave.

The people held their breath
When they heard of Jesse's death
And wondered how he ever came to die.
It was one of the gang called little Robert Ford
He shot poor Jesse on the sly.
Poor Jesse had a wife to mourn for his life,
Three children, they were brave;
But that dirty little coward that shot Mr. Howard
Has laid poor Jesse in his grave.

This song was made by Billy Gashade,
As soon as the news did arrive;
He said there was no man with the law in his hand
Who could take Jesse James when alive.
Poor Jesse had a wife to mourn for his life,
Three children, they were brave;
But that dirty little coward that shot Mr. Howard
Has laid poor Jesse in his grave.

Nicotine & Gravy--Beck

I'll be your chauffeur on a midnight drive
It takes a miracle just to survive
Buried animals call your name
You keep on sleeping
Through the poignant rain
I think we're going crazy
Her left eye is lazy
She looks so Israeli
Nicotine and gravy
I'll feed you fruit that don't exist
I'll leave graffiti
Where you've never been kissed
I'll do your laundry
Massage your soul
I'll turn you over
To the highway patrol
I think we're going crazy
Things don't even faze me
Her left eye is lazy
Nicotine and gravy
Miracles amaze me
She looks so Israeli
Love the way she plays me
I think I'm going crazy
I don't want to die tonight
I don't want to die tonight...

WHEN SHERMAN MARCHED DOWN TO THE SEA

Our campfires shone bright on the mountains That frowned on the river below. While we stood by our guns in the morning, And eagerly watched for the foe. When a rider came out of the darkness That hung over mountain and tree. And shouted "Boys! Up and be ready! For Sherman will march to the sea" And shouted "Boys, up and be ready, For Sherman will march to the sea". Then shout upon shout for bold Sherman Went up from each valley and glen. And the bugles re-echoed the music That rose from the lips of the men. For we know that the stars in our banners More bright in their splendor would be. And that blessings from North land would greet us, When Sherman marched down to the sea. And that blessings from North land would greet us, When Sherman marched down to the sea. Then forward, boys, forward to battle, We marched on our wearisome way. And we stormed the wild hills of Resacca, God bless those who fell on that day! Then Kennesaw, dark in its glory, Frowned down on the flag of the free. But the East and the West bore our standards When Sherman marched down to the sea But the East and the West bore our standards When Sherman marched down to the sea Still onward we pressed till our banners Swept out from Atlanta's grim walls. And the blood of the patriot dampened The soil where the Traitor flag falls. We paused not to weep for the fallen That slept by each river and tree. But we twined them a wreath of the laurel, When Sherman marched down to the sea. But we twined them a wreath of the laurel, When Sherman marched down to the sea. Proud, proud was our army that morning, That stood where the pine darkly towers When Shermand said, "Boys, you are weary, But today, fair Savannah is ours." Then we all sand a song for our Chiertain, That echoed o'er river and lea, And the stars on our banners shone brighter, When Sherman marched down to the sea. And the stars on our banners shone brighter, When Sherman marched down to the sea. Our campfires shone bright on the mountains That frowned on the river below. MARCHING THROUGH GEORGIA

Bring the good ol' Bugle boys! We'll sing another song, Sing it with a spirit that will start the world along, Sing it like we used to sing it fifty thousand strong, While we were marching through Georgia Hurrah! Hurrah! We bring the Jubilee. Hurrah! Hurrah! The flag that makes you free, So we sang the chorus from Atlanta to the sea, While we were marching through Georgia. How the darkeys shouted when they heard the joyful sound, How the turkeys gobbled which our commissary found, How the sweet potatoes even started from the ground, While we were marching through Georgia. Yes and there were Union men who wept with joyful tears, When they saw the honored flag they had not seen for years; Hardly could they be restrained from breaking forth in cheers, While we were marching through Georgia. "Sherman's dashing Yankee boys will never make the coast!" So the saucy rebels said and 'twas a handsome boast Had they not forgot, alas! to reckon with the Host While we were marching through Georgia. So we made a thoroughfare for freedom and her train, Sixty miles of latitude, three hundred to the main; Treason fled before us, for resistance was in vain While we were marching through Georgia.

Baby take off your coat
Real slow
Take off your shoes
I'll take off your shoes
Baby take off your dress
Yez, yez, yezzz

You can leave your hat on
You can leave your hat on
You can leave your hat on

Go over there, turn on the light
Hey, all the lights
Come over here, stand on that chair
Yeah, that's right
Raise your arms up in the air
Now shake 'em
You give me reason to live
You give me reason to live
You give me reason to live
You give me reason to live

Sweet darling, (you can leave your hat on)
You can leave your hat on
Baby, (you can leave your hat on)
You can leave your hat on
(You can leave your hat on)

(You can leave your hat on)

Suspicious minds are talkin'
They're tryin' to tear us apart
They don't believe in this love of mine
They don't know what love is

They don't know what love is
They don't know what love is
They don't know what love is
Yeah, I know what love is

There ain't no way
(You can leave your hat on)
You can leave your hat on
(You can leave your hat on)
Give me the reason to live

You can leave your hat on

I'll never give up on my Taj Mahal suggestion...
If you remember the song, when Taj goes "Yes you wiiiiiiiiiiiill...", in his high-pitched, rawky voice, how can one not think of Dave, really?

You're gonna neeeeeeeed somebody on your booond child
You're gonna neeeeeeeed somebody on your booond
When it's late 'round midnight and old man death comes slippin' into the room
You're gonna neeeeeed somebody on your bond
You take Mary and Martha standin' up in the hillside
Mary explainin' to Martha, "Darlin', look at the river deep and the water wide"
Here comes ole Moses, faithful Moses carryin' big ole stones up the hill
Tellin' everybody they're gonna neeeeeed somebody on their booooond
Whoa, you take Maivus Staples and ole Corn Cheevers(?),
they got the good side on their bond
Oh I been listen to the music people ever since the day I was born
My momma raised me in a room across from the church by the tree,
and that sweet gospel music, oh how it used to comfort me
Tellin' everybody they're gonna need somebody on their bond
Uuuuuuuuh yes they wiiiiiiiiiiill...
Uuuuuuuuh yes they wiiiiiiiiiiill...

Only Joking! Sorry!

I'd say something funky like

"Jungle boogie" by Kool and the gang, that's a badass tune. "Hit the boogie...phrrrr"

Anyway if they were to do a cover song it should be a well-known hit for it to be successful, why not
"Whitelines" by Grandmaster Flash, can you imagine that jejjeje! that'd be funny and quite strange too

Success Story--THE mighty WHO

Friday night, I'm on my way home
They oughta make work a crime
I'm home for the weekend
I'm gonna make the most of my time
There's a rock and roll singer on the television
Giving up his music, gonna take up religion
Deserted rock and roll
To try to save his soul

Saturday night, gotta gig with the band
Playing the electric guitar
Someday I'm gonna make it
Gonna be a super-duper-star
Get a flashy car
And a house for my Ma
The big break better happen soon
'Cause I'm pushing twenty-one

Just like Cinderella
When she couldn't go to the ball
A voice said, "I'm your fairy manager
You shall play the Carnegie Hall"
I gotta give up my day job
To become a heartthrob
I may go far if I smash my guitar

Away for the weekend
I've gotta play some one-night stands
Six for the tax man, and one for the band
Back in the studio to make our latest number one
Take two-hundred-and-seventy-six
You know, this used to be fun

Monday morning, I just got home
Six and the birds are singing
I need a drink and my clothes are wet
Ooh, and my ears are still ringing
There's a rock and roll singer boppin' on the TV
He used to be a preacher, but now he sings in a major key
Amended his decision to the new religion

Better run for the round house Maximus, they won't corner you there!

Fat Possum Records in Oxford, MS has sent me newsletters weekly for a few years. They took a lot of old cotton pickers from MS and made them blues men. Made sure they paid them their royalties.

It was so odd, because I saw a documentary on tv about Fat Possum Records and told it in a website I was in. Opened my e mail later and they had sent me a whole album on mp3 that folks could listen to. I posted it in Embryo Songs out of Singapore where I've modded a long time. I'd mentioned that cds coming out of Japan at the time were $82. each. Next thing I knew the old cotton pickers were coming up in the world and being on tv and touring overseas.

I remember when New Orleans flooded I got an e mail for prayers for some of them, because they could'nt locate them. One was found, but died later.

Im still stuck on them doing 1 Kinks tune like they did on the original. I like "I Need You" and I can see the guys doing one helluva cover of that!

Absolutely! It's an excellent tune for covers.

Now, way down south where I was born
They raise good good greens and corn
Sweet potato, and black-eyed peas
Green tomato, Mama, and pecan trees
But them ----- sure smell good
People smell 'em all 'roung the neighborhood
Soft and easy, they're good and greasy
Oh Lord, I love -----
I'm crazy 'bout them
(Ate some this morning. Mouth smack a week after eating them.)

Now, little girl, don't you tell me what your mama don't 'low
I want some greens anyhow
Quick as I eat 'em, sugar, I'll be gone
Mama'll never know we slipped 'em on
But them -----, sure was good
----- I'd eat 'em all if I could
Soft and easy, they're good and greasy
Hey, Lord, I love -----
I'm crazy 'bout -----
(Ah, glory hallelujah!) I thought I was eating some then. You know where I eat 'em? Whoo! you hear me chewing on them?)

Now, Miss, you can cook them lim-o beans
You cook something that I never have seen
But when you fix up your table for me
Fix up some of them good good greens
But them ----- sure smell good
Oh, Lord, I'd eat 'em all if I could
Soft and easy, they're good and greasy

Get back to basics with a Kinks cover "All Day & All Of The Night"... has all the elements of You Really Got Me, of course, some may argue ADAAOTN is too similar to YRGM, but it's classic VH... Ed could tear up the guitar parts, Dave adds swagger, only thing up in the air is the backing vocals... but as many folks say, I'd prefer 12 or 14 glorious originals, possibly even a double album with all the material Ed supposedly has written over the years...

That is all.

I've always thought they should have done "kicked in the teeth" by AC/DC..Roth's delivery and Ed's guitar work would sound awesome with a little VH twist to it.

I always thought they could do this one justice...

Ed's gotta think of his porno-wife.......or Dave's gotta think about Ed's porno-wife. Either way........this would turn out smokin'!!!!

A cover I used to love to play is "Rock and Roll Fantasy" by Bad Company. I would love to hear CVH cover it. I think Dave could sing the shit out of it!!

I think Dave could sing the shit out of it!!Given Daves voice....a Bad Company cover would kill!! I've caught alot of flack over the years for this, but a cover of Bad Company "Burnin' Sky" would RULE!!!

"the sky....is burnin'...I believe.....my soul's on fire"

A "lay back and let it smoke" kinda tune they could kick ass on.

.......could very well be their next big hit.....not everyone remembers the original anyways.

Being the worlds most badass bar-band....they should do Bachman-Turner Overdrives "Let It Ride". It gives Eddie plenty of room to fuck around in, Alex could definitely show off his skills during the breakdown....and Dave could give the world one good howl for the road.

Go out the same way you came in......slaying the motherfucking WORLD!

......suggestions like this are from real, die-hards like us......it'll never reach them.

...It's a helluva thought though.....that's how I'd like to see them go out....kicking ass!

... this has probably been covered here before but hey why not one more time ...

... classic vh with dave was notorious for rearranging and improving other people's songs, pretty woman being their most famous reworking. in addition to a couple of keyboard songs a la jump and i'll wait on the next offering from the gods, a cover song would also be in keeping with tradition. i seem to recall wilson picket's in the midnight hour being talked about many moons ago ...

... what about a reworking of stevie wonder's supersition produced to sound just like dancing in the streets???

First of all, no goddamn keyboard songs. And don't even bring a synthesizer on the tour. There's gonna be a new album, they can take Jump off the set list, and "I'll Wait" shouldn't have been on the last one. There are so many better songs for an encore. This should be a guitar oriented rock n roll album.

As for the cover songs.... go with blues or R&B. "In The Midnight Hour" would be great.

Or how about "Crossroads" (which they actually played a bit of on the second leg of the reunion tour)

No way Van Halen 2010 do an April Wine song. If they do a cover it's a well known hit that can get them some radio airplay. They're about as likely to rock up this version of One More Time.
