Bush Backtracks, Won't Reveal Abramoff Details

(AP) WASHINGTON The White House is refusing to reveal details of lobbyist Jack Abramoff's visits with President Bush's staff.

According to Press Secretary Scott McClellan, Abramoff had "a few" such meetings. But the spokesman won't say when or with whom.

Nor will he say which interests Abramoff was representing -- or how he got access to the White House.

Abramoff pleaded guilty two weeks ago to mail fraud and tax evasion charges in an influence-peddling scandal that's involved a dozen-plus members of Congress.

Abramoff was also a top fund-raiser for Bush's re-election campaign -- and attended two holiday receptions at the White House.

McClellan had promised a "thorough" report on the lobbyists' meetings with White House staff.

But now he says he won't go beyond previous comments.

It's only a matter of months now. Yep, a matter time until the chimp gets escorted out of the White House in a nice Orange Jumpsuit for a nice trip at Ft. Leavenworth! I just hope he doesn't start throwing handfuls of shit at the secret service folks! :D

The Rant
Bush often met with, and praised, corrupt lobbyist

Although White House spokesliar Scott McClellan claims lobbyist/crook du jour Jack Abramoff only met with administration staff two or three times, the scandal ridden buyer of influence enjoyed frequent private meetings with President George W. Bush, who referred to Abramoff as “one of this administration’s greatest friends.”

In a town where money buys influence and access, it would have been highly unusual for one of the top fundraisers for the Bush White House to not have had meetings with the President.

McClellan, in a carefully-worded response to reporters Tuesday, said his personal investigation into the matter revealed that Abramoff may have had two “private staff level meetings” at the White House. This is the same Scott McClellan who claimed he investigated the Valerie Plame leak and told reporters that neither Vice President Dick Cheney nor anyone on his staff had any involvement in that scandal. Then Cheney’s chief of staff, Scooter Libby, got slapped with an indictment for giving the info to the press.

McClellan, as skilled a liar as anyone who has stood before the press and misled reporters on behalf of a President, fails to mention Abramoff’s frequent visits to the President’s ranch in Crawford, Texas, the private meetings that the lobbyist arranged with the President on the 2004 campaign trail and at the Republican National Convention that year.

White House visitor logs are not public record and the Bush administration keeps separate logs of visitors to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and other locations like Camp David or the President’s home. In addition, logs can – and often are – revised when scandal erupts.

But Abramoff, who raised more than $100,000 for Bush in the last campaign, promised big time donors face time with the President and delivered on those promises during the convention. In addition, he traveled to Bush’s ranch in Texas with his co-conspirator in crime, former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay.

A former DeLay staffer who is cooperating with the investigation into both Abramoff and the disgraced GOP leader’s activities, has told investigators that Abramoff and DeLay visited Bush at his ranch on at least four occasions in 2003 and 2004.

It is common for big money contributors to get personal meetings with the President. At the GOP’s annual Presidential Dinner in Washington, those who pony up at least $25,000 are hustled into a room before the dinner for time and photo ops with the President.

Abramoff kept a photo of himself with Bush, shot at the Crawford ranch, in his office in Washington. The autograph from Bush said “to my great friend Jack.”

Dale Knally, a campaign worker in the 2004 Bush-Cheney re-election campaign, recalls a meeting between Bush and Abramoff during a campaign stop in Florida.

“He put his arm around Abramoff and told us that ‘this man is one of this administration’s greatest friends,’” Knally recalls. Knally declined a job in the Bush administration and returned to school after the election and remembers some in the campaign privately calling Abramoff a “sleazeball.”

“That campaign taught me that I never wanted anything to do with the Bush administration or politics again,” Knally said. “No matter how many showers I took, I couldn’t wash away the stench.”

It is sometimes not what politicians say, it is what they don't say.

Ok so they say he had a couple of staff-level meetings at the White House.

No mention of meetings any where else.

How many "lies" does this make? 3,000?

This is the most corrupt, murderous, power-mad administration we have ever had in the history of the United States.

Because of my government deciding it wouldn't pay me for changing duty stations but still living in the same house I was forced to get rid of all my normal amenities including my cell phone and internet connection etc. in order to keep my house which I ended up being forced to sell anyway because when I finally got paid, it didn't include all the late fees and finance charges I accrued while trying to stay afloat, I am forced to write this reply from a computer at work which leaves me open to serious discplinary repercussions as I admit I have to agree with the post directly above mine.

Thank you sincerely!

When things like that happen and it happens alot, we have an organization that is supposed to be for occasions just like this and emergency transportation if a family member dies and you need to get home in a hurry but don't have the money.

This is an organization that we donate money to from our paychecks to pay for things just like this. I give $600 a year to this organization.
Before this happened I was doing pretty good. Not livin above my means, not going out to buy dubs for my truck or splurging for a new HD plasma. I was paying my bills. When I realized what happened I started calling all the companies I owed and explaned the situation and even offered to send them the paperwork to prove it. Only one company wouldn't work with me. My mortgage company is the most crooked entity I've ever witnessed (aside from this admin). I didn't finance my mortgage with them. They bought it from the original financer and proceeded to charge me late fees etc before they ever notified me they bought the damn thing.

I stopped being paid in October so by December is was 3 months late. I was sending every spare penny I had but it wasn't enough so I went to this organization as a last resort. When I sat down with the counselor and we started going over the situation we drew up a budget to see where all my money was going as if I were financially inept though I wasn't late on anything prior to the pay snafu. Spent almost an hour doing this. When she saw what my normal pay would be and that in my "normal" budget, after everything was paid including savings deposit I make every payday, she noticed I only have 12 months left and with the attorney fees, court costs, late fees, finance charges on top of the past due amount it came to just over $7,000.
She says, "I'm sorry but we can't help you. You need $7,000 and with your budget you can't pay that back in 12 months. If we gave it to you, how would we get our money back"?
If she were a he I would have snatched him over the desk that was strategiclly placed between us. Now, I'm a mellow guy. Everyone I work with knows I'm soft spoken and completely relaxed. You have to really push me to piss me off and I try not to ever raise my voice. But if I start talking really low and clear I'm about to go volcanic. When I looked her in the eyes and asked her what she meant by, "How are we gonna get our money back"? I said, "Maam, I think you meant to say, How are you gonna get your money back"? "I've been donating $600 a year for 9 years and when I finally need your help you decline like you're one of those unsolicited credit card offers who tell you you're already "pre-approved" but when you actually reply to one it's all of a sudden, "we're sorry but you don't qualify". "That is unacceptable. I'm gonna leave before we experience a "brown M&M" incident. (The reference was lost on her but that's a no B.S. comment. I said it, I didn't embelish it) I went back to work to have access to the internet and stopped my allotment to them. Before I left I made sure she understood my pockets were a little to shallow to keep investing in a piece of shit organization and would make sure everyone capable of the advanced art of communication knows just how they treated me. It's kinda like Ron White's "Sears Tower" skit only in my case it ain't funny.

Hey, your not the only one getting fucked! I still haven't received my DD-214, which was suppose to arrive in the mail 10 days ago. Damn S-1 still hasn't unfucked my extension which is suppose to end in July of this year, but is in the system as ending in July of 2007. Even though the paperwork I signed said otherwise.

BushCO isn't really that keen on "paperwork". Not much use for it.

Unless of course it's your Google Porn Search Records, or that pesky fine-print which allows King George and Herr Rumsfeld to "retain" your ass as long as they see fit.

Is there a Non-Abramoff sector of this country that is not currently getting fucked in trhe ass dry by this Administration?

Oh yeah......dumbya doesn't know Jack....

If Chimpy views the Constitution as "just a goddamned piece of paper", chances are he views military release paperwork as even less.

Of course considering how fucked up his paperwork from the TANG was, that's not really surprising either.
