I need to know this, it's killing me. What is going on with the intro to Dogtown Shuffle? Some kind of chanting, repeated four or five times. It's really crazy, but all I can hear is Ona Mai Wa, which means 'name' in Japanese, or something like that. I can't get that outta my friggin head and I really really want to know what he's chanting. Please mofo's, there's gotta be someone here who knows, or at least has a theory.

The penny drops. But ya never know, maybe it's something, but it's not REALLY driving me crazy. But if I say that it is...well it gives the post more urgency. Don't wanna join me and speculate??? Stay safe instead.

What that translates into is a big ?
Could be some pidgin speak, could be anything. The guys travelled to far too many places to guess. hmmmm, i'd just like to know, being a die-hard fan and all.

For my 200th post I'll write this:

Oh God please give me the answer one day, prefferably on an amazing cannabis journey!!

OK I hear the word PENNY in there...lol

It also sounds like an imitation of one of those Austrailian instruments that looks like a big stick...forgot the name. :)

Damn strange, I just noticed your location...:D

That instrument is Aboriginal, called a Didgeridoo. It's a vocal on the song, but sounds similar to a Didgeridoo.

So perhaps the chant is Aboriginal?

....dig this....

Indonesian - "nomaden penyanggah"

to

English - "vagabond protester"

Now the lyrics...

Keep your eyes wide open, babe
If you decide to take the long walk
My city screams of danger
And you're on borrowed time
It comes from a jealous clock
And you're a permanent stranger
So the last of the wild frontier kings
Is held for further questioning
When nothing's left but death and taxes
The matter of the real fact is
You go through life as someone's doormat
Cause you don't get no sportin' chance
There ain't much distance 'tween a pat on the back
And a kick in the pants

You do the Dogtown Shuffle
Now do you talk the talk?
Yes I do!
I do the Dogtown Shuffle
But can you walk the walk?

Lemme see ya do it one time...
Some self-made guy gets it in the ass
At the local mini-mall
Looks more like a warning than an example
And late at night
They said he used to sleep the sleep of the just
I sleep the sleep of the just after
They said the wild boys go head to head
And like the good book says be quick or dead!
So ante up or let 'em go
Cause I'm filing charges on your soul
It's just a joke and you're the punchline
Yeah, the streets are a million laughs
And if I must, well in, God I trust
Everybody else gotta pay cash...

You do the Dogtown Shuffle
But can you talk the talk?
Let me hear ya!
You do the Dogtown Shuffle
But can you walk the walk?

Now purely off the record, man...
Yeah, I figured I was gonna go down
And get a little breakfast
At the local Taco Truck
Yeah, my guise could use some refinement
But I'm on a self improvement kick these days
So what the fuck?
Hey man, there was a line behind me
A line behind me...
Yeah they always try to nail ya
Mom, God, Pie the whole routine
Well here's a little trick that'll never fail ya
In your time of need

You do the Dogtown Shuffle
Yeah, can you talk the talk, baby?
You do the Dogtown Shuffle
Lemme see you walk the walk!
Walk it!

Are ya, are ya, are ya ready boots?
Start walkin'
Scuse me, but I'm new in town
I was wonderin' if I could get directions to your place?
There goes the neighborhood...

HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!!!!! You are a fucking genius!! Where'd you learn indonesian???? It's very believable indeed. It shines an even more mystic light on the song, and enhances the lyrics in my eyes even more. This is a truly underated song!! Dude, can I give you 5 stars or what??!

There was an online translator website I used.....I just used what you said you were hearing, which was close enough for it to work!

My first guess was Indonesian because of the Didgeridoo (close enough) and Dave's fascination with the South Pacific and travels to New Guinea...and it turns out those are actual words!

The word "Nomad" comes from "Nomaden" I do believe...

....and "penyanggah" could mean "opposition" as well as "protester"

Well it's a great find regardless. Nomadic protester. Is it a little hint for the real Dave fans? The ones who have the wherewithall to look closer? I think so!! There's a lot of little things Dave has going on in his music, his books and interviews, even the way he expresses himself. Fuck man it's awesome, it may not have any bit of truth to it, but it's made my day and I'm gunna ride that for a while. I feel good!!!!

There's another song lyric I want you to decipher.

What's that line in Girl Gone Bad?

Ahhh, ok give me e few mins...

Got any ideas yourself??

Big Fat Sammy
02-03-2006, 09:32 PM
For some reason I thought it was something like..."These streetwalkers have nowhere to call home"

OR

"The streetlights are calling me home"

OR "calling my name"

Hell, I don't know...:D

audiospectrum

Oh man, Eddies guitar is really getting in the way of my hearing. For the moment, I'm stumped... give me time.

He says something like "don't call no more" at the end....maybe, a long shot. I'll keep listening...

audiospectrum
02-03-2006, 09:40 PM
These streets turn me on myself, I'm calling my own

Whaddya think? Maybe a word change here or there. Ya know this is what I love about Dave!! He keeps ya guessing, 'depending on what you had for breakfast!!'

Big Fat Sammy

So BFS, any idea on what Dave rambles on the "You're Breathin' It" Remix??? When the solo starts??? Another one that's got me stumped.

Any other classic VH stuff?? I'm thinking... nothing comes to mind straight away.

Once I move out and hook up my stereo and computer, I can use this program which you can turn down the guitar and background shit and enhance what's being said. Maybe that might help with the great unsolved...

I'm playin' ball then hittin' the booze. Out.:bottle:

Big Fat Sammy

Not right off...I'll go listen to that soon.

There's alot hidden/misunderstood lyrics in the unreleased CVH stuff I bet.

Are you talking about when he freestyles on "New York, New York" ?

No I think I know what you're on about, but I mean the muffled ramble as the solo hits. I think it may be just after he says 'New York, New York.'

But duuuuuuude, I just can't figure out GGB!! I usually can get something, but everytime you hear different things. I'm going to have that take-apart-music-program. BTW, have you had a try at Thug Pop and Flex?? Sheesh!!
