The only reason it is so successful is that the public always wonderered what gay sex is all about but were too afraid to ask...

Now they flock to the theaters in the hopes of seeing a couple of rump-rangers humping each other, as it is a "respectable" film, and they can see gay sex without having to actually be guilty of downloading gay porn (like Jizzystool & 3 Suck Cock love to do).

It is the same kind of rubber-neck reaction they all have to a fucking car wreck by the side of the road....they denounce the blood & gore to everyone, while loving the fact they get to see some....

So they find Jizzystool's lifestyle repulsive, yet they can't resist being able to see two butt-pirates get it on in a "legitimate" film....so they can say to their friends "Yes I saw it...it had an interesting screenplay" (the motion picture version of saying you get Playboy to read the articles).

So they can satisfy their curiosity about homos, but won't have to worry about being accused of being gay.

I will say this...Ang Lee is a great director, and I am sure he has turned out a quality film, but I have no interest in seeing 2 kowboys playing hide-the-salami out on the range....

It's like Passion Of The Christ or whatever that was called.

You can go watch blood, guts and torture without the guilt...yay!

The previews look a lttle unrealistic to me...those gay cowboys look like modern day city slicker homos in cowboy costumes.

In reality, I'm sure there are many gay cowboys...they had to get laid on long cattle drives...but they would be all tough looking and chew tobacco and not have that cliche gay look.

Anyway...I'm gonna pass on this one too.

I have to disagree with you. A lot of Christians did not go see that because it was blood, guts, and torture without guilt. If anything, many people who have a strong faith/belief end up with a small pang of guilt.

And when in this society do people feel guilty for viewing violence? What, the hard-core Protestant groups that get mad if young girls show a bit of ankle? Mother hens who want to regulate what everyone watches? Go read any review of those groups about the Passion. They were begging people to stay away and the hardcore Christian groups were telling people to just read the Bible passages.

The film was snubbed at the SAG awards and chances are it may not recieve any of those 8 Oscars either.

Besides, the only award that means anything in Hollywood is the Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG Award) because it is given to actors by the actors, none of this PC Bullshit the Academy tries to pull.

The Oscars are Hollywoods Rock -n- Roll Hall of Fame...A Joke.

But actually, how can this movie be such a hit when i don't know a single soul who has or even wants to see it.

I'll pass too...

Basically, Bareback Mountain is Hollywoods way of telling you that you should be gay. Much the same as Will & Grace is TV's way of telling you to be gay.

I hope that doesn't make me sound like an asshole or anything, because I have nothing against gay people, at the end of the day. Their lifestyle isn't my lifestyle, and that's fine...I'll respect them their room if they respect me mine.

Now, my wife is bi, and she's usually EVERYTHING about gay empowerment, and even she's not interested in going to see it due to the fact that it just looks like gay cowboys and a character study and to her mind such a movie would be "boring". I work with gay people also and their opinion is about the same...one of them saw it and said he thought it was "Hollywood's script to convert straights" and it really pissed him off...

I don't write it, I just report it...

I wouldn't even be bothered to rent it, honestly. I really don't like Jake Gyllenhall (or however he spells his name)...I like Heath Ledger, yeah, but he'd better be in a suit of armor with Queen music playing in the background...

I have grown really tired of Hollywood and there agenda. I think the general public have made it real clear also. Ticket sales have really taken a nose dive. I'll be damned if I am going to spend my hard earned money on a movie about two gay men or a transsexual. Broke ass mountain is being praised by critics yet has only grossed about 32 million compared to say Chronicles of Narnia which has grossed around 300 million. I am not the most religious person in the world but Passion Of The Christ raked in about 400 million. I think Americans make it pretty clear where there interests are when it comes to seeing a movie. But Hollywood continues to shove there personal agenda's down our throats. I go to a movie to see fantasy and get away from the real world for a couple of hours. If I want reality I just turn on CNN or Fox News.

It is just more homo propaganda...though the gay population is glad Hollywood is making movies about them....next thing you know they will spread the theme around to all other genres of film....

Homo Sci-Fi (Fags In Space?)

Gay War movies (In Love With The Army?)

Lesbian Football movies? (The Longest Strap-on?)

How about a supernatural thriller where a conservative bigot cop becomes possessed by the ghost of a Militant Dyke Bitch, and falls in love with a Middle-aged retarded black Jewish man who is possessed by the ghost of Adolph Hilter?

You could maybe call it "I Was Possessed By A Ghost With A Permanent Hard-on".

Oh come on 1 homo film amongst how many?

An agenda?

The agenda is to make as much money as possible by putting out a load of fucking trash remakes, superhero films and sequels with certificates so that they can get money from American teenagers who make up the biggest demographic of cinema attenders.

I have no intention of watching this movie just like I wouldn't watch the pointless rehashing of superstitions in the Passion of the Christ but at least these films are something a bit different than Superman 8 or the Dukes of Hazard.

Cheers!

Like Hardrock says...this could be the beginning of gay-centric movies for all our guy-centric favorites.

Oh and didn't King of the Hill already address the gay rodeo/coyboy thing when Dale's dad worked at one.

I won't see this gay-coyboy movie and Hollywood listen up...I won't go see any gay remake of Slap Shot either!

Seshmeister, I agree with most of your points. There is a dumbing down affect in both music and entertainment that is rather alarming. I must say that I did enjoy some of the super hero movies that came out. Batman Begins I felt was very entertaining, as well as the Spiderman movies.
Yes, these movies are different because they have an agenda. Munich, Brokeback Mountain and the far left George Looney projects are all message driven.

80 percent of the movies nominated for Oscars no one has ever heard of. They definitely do not represent what's popular in the box office.

I'm curious about how far they go. I may have to check it out. I don't think two guys kissing will have the same effect on me as two girls kissing has on guys. ;)

Brokeback Mountain...a movie about gay cowboys...that he loves...whoever doesn't like the movie about gay cowboys is, to his mind, gay...oh, but he's straight.

Anyway, back on topic:

It's funny, if you take all five of the movies nominated for best picture this year and added up their revenue, they don't come anywhere close to SW Ep III, Narnia, King Kong or Harry Potter.

The Oscars don't reflect the common Americans viewing interests, what it preferred, hell, even what it enjoyed, because all 5 of the nominated movies were technically flops at the box office. The only thing nominated for any sort of Oscar this year that actually PERFORMED at the box office to any real degree was "Batman Begins". I'm amazed that got a nod for anything, even though it's a gimme catagory (cinematography).

I haven't seen any of the other movies on the ballot, but I'll bet ya dollars to donuts that "Batman Begins" kicked ass over every single one of them.

What all this reflects is Hollywood's agenda of telling you what you SHOULD like...not whether or not you should be democrat, gay, jewish or otherwise. It's Hollywood's way of telling you that you should be stuffy, wear a suit to the theater, go see art-films and know/appreciate plots that are inane and difficult to follow unless you really, really concentrate on it. THAT'S the true Hollywood agenda - saying "You should be appreciating reality-based movies, or at the very least what we TELL you is a reality-based movie."

Fuck reality! I get enough of that in my daily life to kill a horse with. For pete's sake, if I'm going to drop down $25 at the movie theater for my wife and I to enjoy a film, fuck man, I wanna ENJOY it, not have to sit around and think about the implications of the plotline and the characters conflicts and how I should be able to relate that into my daily life and change my persona. That's fucking absurd. Hollywood seems to have forgotten it's supposed to be about ENTERTAINMENT. You should go to the movies because you want to be amused/impressed/enraptured/amazed, not because you feel fucking obligated to learn a life lesson.

It's just stupid.

Roth Army posters, I encourage you all to boycot watching the Oscars this year. Let Hollywood pat itself on the back and wonder why Joan Collins and her dizzy slut daughter can't draw them any ratings.

It's also funny that 3 out of four of those are childrens films and King Kong was for teenagers.

It's fine that you and the majority of film goers are either kids or like kids films but why should awards for excellence be made to childish brain dead stuff?

An Oscar nomination can give a boost in box office to films with excellent writing or acting which helps them to get made.

I think the Oscars should actually be more highbrow than it is.

Cheers!

of course west virginia is going to ban this movie...

its about two cowboys having sex with each other, not cowboys who are having sex with their sisters or cousins...

i bet that had that been the plot you'd be the first in line...

not to see the "romantic" story but to take notes on to fuck your sister/cousin and successfully thin out the gene pool in west virginia just a little more...

Are there any real cowboys left? I live in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and at one time it was a real cowboy town because ranching is what they did here. Now a ranch is an expensive plaything people like Harrison Ford own. We have a famouse Cowboy Bar called the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar but no real cowboys in the place. Sandra Bullock, Tommy Lee Jones, Harrison Ford are all people I've seen in the joint but no real cowboys.

Cattle opperations are now large high tech opperations full of people with biology degrees trying to genetically engineer the perfect steak. Long gone is the cattle drive running longhorns up from Texas to the Kansas railheads. Cattle are now hearded with four wheelers and electric prods.

The only thing left of the real cowboy is the rodeo. Much like the only thing left of the old lumberjack are those lumberjack competitions because that is long gone too.

Men have always fucked other men up the ass. In Victorian times you had to keep it a big secret. I'm sure the old west had some sphinter banging going on; especially, since women were scarce and men were stuck together in mining camps, ranches, cattle drives and such. But making a move on the wrong man could get you killed.

It seems like Brokeback Mountain was written by some gay, out of touch, Hollywood type. These people assume their enemies are Stetson wearing rednecks who chew Skoal.

Oh how clever, two redneck Marlboro men fuck each other up the ass. Do they get in gunfights? Do they kill indians? Do they safe a Mexican villiage from bandits? What in the hell is the movie about? Ass fucking? It sounds lame.
