A variety of sites are reporting that 20th Century Fox is in plans to create a prequel to the Friday the 13th series. The studio has launched development of a script about Jason Voorhees' origins. The marketing plan is to release the movie on Friday, October 13th, 2006.

I fucking love the Friday the 13th films! I know, I know...most of them are crap (Jason Goes To Hell) but I grew up with this trash and they hold a special place in my heart (right next to weed and titties).

JASON FUCKING ROCKS THE SHIT!

Weren't his origins explained in the original "Friday The 13th" by his mother, Ms. Voorhees before she attempts to kill the sole surviving counselor?

"Kill her mommy...kill her. She can't hide. No place to hide."

Doesn't New Line own the rights to the Friday franchise??

If so, how can Fox release a new movie then?

Good question. New Line owns both Friday and Elm Street franchises, unless they opted out of Friday...I heard a rumor a while back (3 years or so ago) that they were tempted to sell because they thought the franchise may not be going anywhere outside of F vs. J pt. 2...

Maybe they sold the series rights but held on to the Freddy vs. Jason bits?

Possible...?

This might not be a bad idea...

Yes, Mrs. Voorhees explained what happened to Jason in the first Friday the 13th, but not a lot of film was given to explain what he was doing inbetween the time he drowned and when he pulled the chick into the lake (which was what, 20-odd years...was he just hanging around at the bottom of the lake?)...

I could see doing a Part 11 if it something along these lines, but not so much if it's just gonna be another sequel that continues the timeline in linear chronology.

I think they should go with a Freddy Vs Jason sequel instead.

That movie made the most money (though not a whole lot) of ANY horror movie in years.

And it was actually fun to watch them again.

Yeah, but the Halloween series is beyond sad now.

Only thing sadder than the last movie is Moustapha Akkad announcing that he's gonna make another one.

The series clearly should have been taken out of his hands around 1989, and it is my sincere hope he's not onboard for the next movie, because H5-8 have just been totally unacceptable. It is my understanding he has ultimate veto power over all storyline concept ideas, and the man clearly just has no clue that the whole franchise has become a joke.

They need to get Carpenter back to write and direct one more H flick, have it tie in all the plot points (seems like we have two series going on here, one that involves H1, 2, H2O and Ressurection and one that involves 4, 5 and 6), and have Myers killed off for good. You know, TRY to end it on a high note.

Otherwise, it's just gonna be more drek.

I love the part where he's doing...what is it...a Fangoria convention or something?...and he recites his entire script from the first film...

"The funeral is about to begin, sir."

"Boy!"

"Boy!"

"Boy!"

"You can't escape, boy!"

"Boy!"

"Boy!"

(or whatever)

lmao...funny shit...I love Angus...

Great, great series of films...a little inconsistant from time to time, sure...but awesome none the less...

Updated info...

Michael Bay's horror shingle Platinum Dunes ("The Texas Chainsaw Massacre", "The Amityville Horror") is set to produce the eleventh film in the "Friday the 13th" franchise for New Line Cinema.

Following the origins of the Jason Voorhees character, the studio is rushing the film into production in hopes to have it ready for this coming Friday October 13th, three weeks before Halloween.

Former net scribe Mark Wheaton ("The Messengers", "Son of the Morning Star") will pen the script.
