You may love him or hate him but Yngwie Malmsteen just keeps getting better at guitar. Most players hit a plataue or lose it but not Yngwie. He actually has put out some of his best work lately.

The dude was in a car accident and not suppossed to play, he said fuck you doctors and proved them wrong. His manager ripped him off and he was completely broke. He kept working learning a hard lesson and is fine now. People told him shred was dead but he always had a huge following in Japan and Europe. He is once again popular in North America. He got fat as hell but lost the wieght.

You know, the guy has been true to his art and said Fuck You! I'm doing my own thing. He's been successful at it to and is considered one of electric guitars greats. What more rock and roll than that.

Not every guitarist has the bennefit of a great band. Eddie would have gone nowhere without a great band behind him. Yngwie found a niche and stayed true to it without trying to reinvent himself. I mean how stupid would Yngwie looks in a grung band? LOL!

Hey, some call him an asshole but I have a lot of respect for him and his talent as a player. This guy is going to be around for a long time shredding.

I guess you have to be a guitar player yourself to really enjoy Malmsteen's records. I never could get interested in them, but if the man had to get through those tough times you mention, then hats off to him!

I'm kinda perplexed as to why this is in MAIN though....?!?

HOUSE OF MUSIC.....seems like a more likely fit.......

Eventhough YNGWIE WAS offered the spot in the EEAS BAND before Vai........Hmmmmmmm....Now THAT would have been interesting.....

YNGWIE MALMSTEEN threatened to kill a fellow passenger on a flight to Tokyo, Japan after the woman poured a glassful of water on the guitarist.

The passenger, who had no prior contact with Yngwie, allegedly overheard Malmsteen making derogatory comments about homosexuals and decided to show her disapproval by emptying the contents of her glass on the hefty axeman.

A member of Yngwie's touring entourage, who was traveling with Malmsteen at the time, had a tape recorder running and managed to catch Yngwie's reaction on tape immediately after the guitarist was "assaulted" by the offended passenger.

To download an MP3 file containing Yngwie's response to the "water attack", including his now-legendary phrase "You've unleashed the fucking fury," click here (http://www.blabbermouth.net/yngwie_tokyo_flight.mp3) (file size: 1.7 MB).

I agree with everything Nitro said, but in my opinion, Yngwie's latest album UNLEASH THE FURY isn't very good...

Yngwie is still the greatest though...:D

Whoops. I guess I should have posted in the music forum. Sorry. I thought Unlease the Fury was pretty good. He kicked ass last time I saw him live.

I heard about Yngwie going off on someone on a plane but never heard it. That's some funny shit. God if he did that now they probably would arrest him for being a terrorist. LOL!

Lotta people have written him off as a Blackmore clone throughout his career.

He definitely copped some of his look from RB, along with some of his stage antics and choice of axe...but I see it as Blackmore may have inspired Yngwie early on in tems of getting him interested in rock music with classical overtones, but Yngwie can do shit, both in terms of speed and content, that Blackmore isn't technically capable of.

Plus, Yngwie is much more consistent live, whereas RB can go from throwing down some incredible shit to embarrassing gaffes in concert, often within the same song!

But Blackmore has Yngwie beat by a mile in terms of composition. Yngwie can't really write memorable SONGS to save his life, and the tunes he does come up with seem rushed and haphazard; for such an amazing soloist, the ideas he comes up with for verses, rhythm work in general and choruses just sound beneath his abilities.

That's why that classic Deep Purple stuff is gonna continue to resonate years from now, while even guitar players will be hard pressed to recall an actual SONG by Yngwie.

Fuckin' amazing soloist, though.

I love Malmsteen, quite a lot. I'm no guitarist, but I'm never unimpressed by what he plays. Songwise, some albums are better than others...solowise, again, some are better than others...but I'm always interested in what he has coming out, and he's one of the very few artists whom I know full well exactly what I'm going to get, and there's not going to be a LOT of variation or surprises...having something steady like that is refreshing at times...

Yngwie's thumbed his nose at the critics for YEARS and passed the test of time - and years later, he's considered one of the founding fathers of shred (if not THE living definition of shred). Nothing else needs to be said, really.

Often imitated - never duplicated.

Like many, I think he is grate, though I have no desire to see him live ever again.

I saw him here in Gnashville last May I think it was...and I walked out before his set was over.

It gets old real fast. Even with him being a virtuoso.

Yeah, hes so fucking great, thats why you cant support a whole concert,or,to see him again?Lets face it,there are MANY players that can do what he does. Its fucking BORING.Good point about not writing evenONE song/or even track that any "real"person knows.Whos more effective on guitar?Yngwie(sp)or,fuck, keith richards? Answer:Keith. Why?Simple answer:Brown sugar,or,satisfaction,or,whatever. It makes no difference of dexterity if you cant get people to feel.Fuck iyngwie,I met that bitch in Berlin.Hes full of shit. And this is no "sour grapes"story. It was in the Europa center,Irish Pub with the Scorpions.Scorpions were cool.yngwie was his usual,pompous,bull-shit self.Fuck that false bitch.

Yngwie is more like a master on the violin or something. Yeah, he isn't going to pen a classic rock and roll song or be a big name in a band like the Rolling Stones. He's a specialist.

Many think he should be a burnt out basket case on Behind the Music but he just told everyone to "Fuck Off!" and was good enough to keep going.

Some find him boring but I watched him play on the G3 tour and the dude never made one fucking mistake during his set.

He's not for everyone but I still think he kicks ass.

I agree he kicks ass, however,if you cant connect, whats the point? He doesnt compare to say,Danny Gatton. If you want Vivaldi,or,some shit,go watch "Children iof Bodom".Yngwie is more for musicians to appreciate. Its not a matter of dexterity, its a matter of "does it move you"?With all his skill, yngwie cant make the average person move.He continues because there are still enough people to support his thing.Of course he is awesome, however,he will never compare to Eddie, for example. He cant "Rock".If classical music is so great, why are there not stadiums full of people wanting to hear any respectable symphonic orchestra playing ANY classical music?Even Robert Fripp understands this.Even players get bored with it.And hes broke?Dont you fucking believe that shit for one second.

Well...either you're into shred or you're not. I enjoy it. I can't play guitar for a shit (bass is my instrument, followed by keyboards and drums), but I won't for a second deny that Yngwie's a fucking master of that instrument. Generally speaking, the guy can pretty much play anything on guitar...he has his own style...saying that he "never changes" and/or is "one dimensional" is, I think, kinda stupid...akin to saying that since Tony Iommi has never recorded an acoustic album, he's a shitty one dimensional guitarist...wtf? Yngwie has his style and plays as he likes. People are obviously buying it because he still has a label, still cuts albums and still tours. Somewhere there's an audience for him...Japan fuckin' loves him...anything he releases debuts at #1 there, I think...

Personally, I think he's a fine song writer and a HELL of a lot better than most of his contemporaries (i.e. fakers) in the shred field (Joe Stump? Chris Impellitteri? Alex Masi? Don't make me laugh...). Yngwie's written a shitload of good songs, IMO.

I saw him on G3 and I will say this WITHOUT DOUBT: he was the STAR attraction. People were bored with Vai and Satch by comparison...Yngwie lit up that stage and stole the show from them both. At least on my night, he did. Even Steve and Joe both later on, after the tour, commented on how cool he was, how exceptionally talented, and how lucky they were being out there with him. Very kind comments, for sure...

I've met the man in passing a handful of times - to my mind, he's been very congenial and very pleasant.

He's a master at getting around the instrument and his scales.

His emotional pallette is pretty limited though. I think that is a big part of the mastery equation.

That's why I can only handle it in small doses.

He doesn't really rate as a songwriter in my book.

Steve Vai, now? That's a master.

Yngwie has gotten better. Watch the G3 Tour Live in Denver DVD if you doubt Yngwie can't put emotion into notes. Yngwie is a classical player. He number on the accoustic guitar was marvelouse.

I saw that G3 live and Yngwie stole the show. Hey, the dude gained wieght and looked funny in his tight pants and through his Strat around his neck too many times but he sounded and played great.

I've got that DVD, did someone say he's lost that weight that he had when that was recorded ?

Love the riffs from his 1st song when he comes onstage that's on that DVD, can't remember the name though....

Gotta love the '80ish moves though...

Like you said, he must've thrown the Strat around his neck 20 times in 3 songs...

And he must've tossed out 50 picks in those 3 songs as well...

I dunno man...

Even my mom liked Yngwie...

She has good taste in music and she likes some of his early songs...

Yngwie's music would have turned out better in the later years with a better singer...

Yngwie was moving people the night I saw him. On the G3 Live at Denver DVD you can see the audience is totally getting into it especially during that kick ass accoustical number.

Hey, I'm not into Willie Nelson myself but he's got his fans that think the guy is God.

Moving people is not universal. You move the people who dig what you do.
