LARS ULRICH Wants DAVE MUSTAINE To Induct METALLICA Into ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME - Mar. 14, 2006

Billboard.com is reporting that METALLICA members were asked at the 21st annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction dinner (held Monday night at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York) whom they'd like to induct METALLICA when the group is inducted into the Rock Hall down the road. "[SABBATH drummer] Bill Ward said they would play if we get inducted," guitarist James Hetfield said, before drummer Lars Ulrich interjected, "Dave Mustaine," the MEGADETH frontman who was famously booted from the pre-fame METALLICA in the early 1980s.

METALLICA are currently working on a new studio album while gearing up for a run of South African shows this month and summer European festivals. "We've been working on the new record for the last three months," Ulrich told Billboard.com. "It's been the best experience we've had writing in as long as we can remember. We've been on such a great roll [that there are] no therapists needed," he added, alluding to the "coach" who was brought in to help band members make it through the recording of 2003's "St. Anger".

With Rubin producing, I'm really looking forward to the next album. Mind you, I really enjoyed ST. ANGER...just thought the production could have been better and it could have used some solos.

Megadeth owns Metallica, Such an Underrated Band, If Anything Lar$ should be inducting Dave Mustaine in to the hall of fame. Didn't Mustaine like right 98% of Greetallica's songs anyways? Even a lot of the Black Album if you can believe it.

You don't know what the hell you're talking about. Mustaine co-wrote some riffs of THE FOUR HORSEMEN and co-wrote an instrumental on RIDE THE LIGHTNING (and maybe one more number...I can't remember). That's it.

He wrote numbers on the BLACK ALBUM and 98% of their songs? LMFAO.:p Ridiculous.

Mustaine is a good musician but he's a fucking psychotic.

Mustaine is definately a better guitarist than either of Hetfield or Hammett, in my opinion, but Metallica has been more consistent throughout their career.

I happen to like Megadeth's stuff better though.

Thats the dumbest thing i ever heard. Theres no way Mustaine had anything to do with the Black Album.

Metallica Songs by Dave Mustaine
Track: Written by: Released on:
The Four Horsemen Music, lyrics: Hetfield, Ulrich, Mustaine Kill'em All
Jump in the Fire Music, lyrics: Hetfield, Ulrich, Mustaine Kill'em All

The Call of Ktulu Music: Hetfield, Ulrich, Burton, Mustaine Ride the Lightning

Dave Mustaine claimed to have written the main riff of Metallica's "Lepper Messiah" from Master of Puppets, but he never got credit.

Song Similarities
Megadeth Song: Metallica Song: Similarity:
Looking Down the Cross Ride the Lighting Riff
Mechanix The Four Horsemen Whole song
In My Darkest Hour For Whom the Bell Tolls Opening riff
Hangar 18 The Call of Ktulu Riff
Dawn Patrol The God That Failed Riff
This Was My Life Phantom Lord Bass riff

Sorry Didn't mean to say 98% that was an exagerration, BUT...It sounds like Mustaine did help right some of Metallica's Greatest songs

If there is anyone that can give Metallica back their edge,,, it's Rick Rubin

Yeah that was a bit of an exagerration, and MOP was Metallica's breakthrough, Mustaine didn't write anything on it. A lot of songs are similar, especially in the genre Met and Megadeath play. Some of those could have been written by Metallica first.

Solos wouldn't have helped St. Anger at all, James' deteriorating voice and Lars' trash can sounding drums left much to be desired IMO.

If Lars gets back to his thunderous drumming that he has been known for instead of the 'coffee can' sound we heard on 'St. Anger' it will be a better album.

I like Megadeth. I think they come in 2nd compared to what Metallica has done.

But Dave Mustaine is one whiny bitch!

Get over it already!

Mustaine walks all over Kirk and James, guitar-wise...

Ulrich is just a little cunt. Obviously he threw out Mustaine's name in jest...baaaaaaaahwhogivesashit. Metallica slowly morphed into a bunch of pussies after Puppets. Cliff's been rolling in his grave for so many years now over the shit that band has done that he might as well be put on a rotisserie.

I too, have always preferred Megadeth. I agree with just about everyone else, Mustaine is a fucking cuntbag himself, but I always thought Megadeth wiped the floor with Metallica on just about every level. I think their name held them back from having the kind of success Metallica enjoyed. Megadeth HAS NOT, however, put out a good album in a long time themselves.

Uh, just when was he known for his "thunderous" drumming? Personally I think there was either a drum machine or an uncredited session drummer on Ride the Lightening.

As far as Rick Rubin helping metallica, he can't hurt them, considering the gay porno soundtrack that is/was st. anger. Maybe he can salvage what's left of them, who knows.

No, he wrote the whole damn song (Mechanix). After he left metallica, Hetfield rewrote the lyrics, changed the title and the band added a different guitar solo.

I agree Mustaine had absolutely nothing to do with The BA.

Mustaine's an awesome guitarist...owns Hetfield and Hammet...best thing about Mustaine, though, was when Jon Oliva (Savatage) bitch slapped him with a power bomb in '88...man, to have been a fly on the wall and see THAT shit...

Word to the wise, Mr. Mustaine: do NOT fuck with a guy twice your weight who's drunk and SERIOUSLY pissed off at you for being a cunt.

:D

On the Rick Rubin note, he'll do what he's known for doing...making them sound like a garage band in the studio for the first time, working on a shoe string budget...

But that's not going to help shitty songwriting, which is essentially what Metallica has specialized in for ten years now.

We'll see, but don't hold your breath...

With Bob Rock gone though the song writing may have a rougher edge, this could be good.

I have high hopes for this one.

Never heard about Oliva giving Mustaine a smack...LOL

Exactly.

Who cares if Rick Rubin is producing.

No producer can save the train wreck now known as "Metallica".

I concur.

Fuck 'em all.

well......I have an original Master of Puppet cassette and I remember that at least there was 1 (if not more) song that has Mustaine on its credits.
I have to find the cassette on my trashy room but I'm pretty sure of that.........now I'm on work but I will try to find it tonight and will try to post if was true on tomorrow

Yeah, they were both on tour together...Dave was rambling on about some shit, they were both drunk, Dave said some shit to Jon that Jon apparently didn't care for and Jon power bombed him...lol...

They resolved differences though, apparently are on pretty good terms these days.

80's Metallica rocked some serious ass.

Since the Black album it has definitely been a downhill ride.

Bob Rock is a closet homosexual who secretly worships Hetfield's anus.

Rick Rubin will be a welcome change for the band.

When I was younger I loved both, but I liked Metallica a little more than Megadeth. As I've gotten older, I find I enjoy Megadeth more than Metallica. While both bands lost their way, I think Megadeth has bounced back from things like Youthanasia and Risk, and is back on track with System Has Failed, Metallica hasn't moved me since the "Black Album". I have to admit that I'm intruiged to see if Rubin can get them back in the right direction.

Just pitiful to see Metallica, who sprung from the underground and word of mouth...and became successful by the time MOP was out, in spite of zero airplay, allow themselves to become engulfed by corporate record company mentalities and play the MTV game. Fuck, those guys had made it big on their own terms, you know? Seeing that Some Kind Of Monster flick just reinforced the idea that Metallica no longer exists for the music, but the music is made just to keep the band name viable and generate money. Buncha greedy cunts who have been rich for so long that they forgot the days when they were hungry...and fuck that new bass player for recording over Daisley's shit on the Ozzy reissues.
