Jessica Simpson Snubs Bush

LOS ANGELES (March 15) - Concerned about politicizing her favorite charity, singer-actress Jessica Simpson Wednesday turned down a invitation to meet with President Bush, a snub that left Republicans dismayed.
The apparent final word that Simpson would be a no-show at a major Republican fund-raiser with Bush and congressional leaders Thursday night came after a day of conflicting reports from her camp and organizers of the event.

The blond star of the film "The Dukes of Hazzard" still plans to visit Washington Thursday to lobby members of Congress on behalf of Operation Smile, a non-profit venture offering free plastic surgery for disadvantaged children overseas with facial deformities.

People close to Simpson said she declined a request to appear that same evening at the gala fund-raiser of the National Republican Congressional Committee -- even after she was offered some private face time with Bush -- because Operation Smile is a non-partisan group.

"It just feels wrong," one Simpson insider told Reuters Wednesday, adding that the actress keeps her political views private. "She would love to meet the president and talk about Operation Smile ... but she can't do it at a fund-raiser for the Republican Party."

NRCC spokesman Carl Forti said he was surprised at Simpson's position.

"It's never been a problem for Bono," he said, referring to the U2 rock star who has met regularly with political leaders of all stripes to promote various causes, including Third World debt relief. "I find it hard to believe she would pass up an opportunity to lobby the president on behalf of Operation Smile."

Although Simpson's publicists insisted she never had planned to attend the fund-raiser, Forti said the actress initially accepted the NRCC invitation when it was extended on Tuesday night, only to change her mind the next evening.

Forti said the Republican group had even arranged for Simpson to dine at one of the head tables with House Majority Leader John Boehner, an Ohio Republican. The NRCC hopes the $2,500-per-plate dinner event will raise $7.5 million for Republican candidates in the congressional midterm elections in November.

Simpson, 25, a Texas native who started out singing in her church choir, became a star on the Christian music circuit as a teenager and crossed over to the pop mainstream with her major-label debut album "Sweet Kisses" in 1999.

She became an overnight MTV sensation in 2003 as co-star of a reality show chronicling her first year of wedlock with fellow pop vocalist Nick Lachey, but she filed for divorce in December after three stormy years of marriage. Simpson is currently featured wearing cowboy boots and hot pants in a TV pizza ad.

They arrange for disadvantaged children to have corrective facial surgery to fix birth defects such as cleft palate, cleft lip, etc.

Seems like a worthy enough cause. It's not merely cosmetic surgery either. Cleft palates can interfere with breathing or the ability to properly eat solid food, and dental surgery is often part of the deal, as the teeth often grow in wrong.

Here's a before and after pic of a child who had the surgery........

You can see the dramatic improvement in the kid's facial structure. From the looks of it, he might need some dental work, but the picture shows what they can do.

The Devil's no Jessica Simpson fan, but if she can help this worthy cause, more infernal power to her.

Yet another example of how hypocritical you liberals can be.
One day she's the butt of your jokes and the next you're embracing her as being smarter because she had a conflict of interest with a fundraiser.

I guess you all missed (or it wasn't reported) how she was honored to be invited and would love to meet President Bush, just not at a fundraiser.

She is admittedly Republican, and she voted for Bush...Let's try and NOT read more into this than there really is.

She keeps her political views private, like a good little celebrity should.

Ya know, it really is sad how you all let hatred motivate you.
You attack anyone who supports Bush and would praise even your worst enemy if they shared that same hatred.

Your not a Political Party...You're a Cult.

Good post, Cat.

I read the DU once in awhile, and they have people over their that actually "ban" celebrities for their political views. Free Republic does the same. (Banning = not purchasing their work) Stupid. I'll criticize someone else's views along with the next guy, but if I want to see a movie, I don't care about the political views of the people who act in it.

Just like how they scramble to defend gays but throw them under the bus when it comes to a gay republican.

It's even evident on this board when one minute they are trying to defend gay marriage and calling us that don't agree with it, Homophobes. yet they turn right around and use being gay as an insult to one conservative member or another.

And i'm a hypocrite?

Whatever, you backward ass socialist commie bastards.

And just like how they cry about the innocent people dying in a war yet part of their platform is giving a woman the right to kill a baby growing in the womb?

Oh no, your not a hypocrite at all i must be crazy to think that about you fucking losers, right?

Bill Maher Spends All Night Arguing With Republican Hooker

http://www.theonion.com/content/files/images/onion_news2871.article.jpg
Maher escorts Dobson through the W Hotel lobby.

July 14, 2004 | Issue 40•28

LOS ANGELES—Sources close to Bill Maher report that the comedian and host of HBO's Real Time With Bill Maher spent Friday evening arguing with Carolyn Dobson, a prostitute from the London Escorts Agency and a supporter of the Republican Party.

Dobson and Maher, who occupied an executive suite at the W Hotel, reportedly argued on subjects ranging from the Bush Administration's financial accounting for the Iraq war to its refusal to release records to the public in accordance with the Freedom Of Information Act. The two also engaged in three consensual sex acts, for which the comedian paid $750.

Maher, who was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2001 for his work on ABC's Politically Incorrect, made his first political observation early in the evening. Shortly after entering the hotel room, he turned his attention from Dobson, who was unpacking her bag, to the television screen, where CNN commentator Eleanor Clift appeared on The McLaughlin Group.

Sitting on the edge of the bed and watching the television as he removed his shoes, Maher asked about Dobson's political affiliation. Dobson responded that she did not vote in the last election, but if she had, she would have supported Bush.

"Let me tell you something about Bush's domestic agenda, Carolyn," Maher said. "He doesn't have one. I mean, take a look at his State Of The Union address. Sports coaches need to crack down on athletes' use of steroids? I'm sorry, that's not a vision for America's future. That's a Sports Illustrated op-ed topic."

Dobson said she didn't initially attempt to argue with the winner of four Cable Ace Awards.

"I was getting all my condoms and lubricants and stuff out," Dobson said. "I told him straight sex was $250 and asked him to pick what I should wear. He chose the pink negligee."

While the prostitute phoned Maher's credit-card number into her agency, the quick-witted pundit returned his attention to the television screen, where a news segment showed Bush addressing military personnel at CENTCOM headquarters in Tampa, FL.

"Bush was thanking the soldiers for protecting America, and [Maher] was like, 'They'd better soak up his thanks now, Carolyn, because—' something about how Bush is gonna cut their healthcare," Dobson said. "I was like, 'I'm surprised you don't like Bush, because most successful guys do.' He was like, 'Okay, new rule: No more choosing political parties the way we choose the homecoming court.'"

Added Dobson: "Then he asked me to put my face up next to his dick while he jerked off."

According to Dobson, during the approximately 40 minutes of copulation, the comedian restricted his comments to requests for changes of position or velocity. After ejaculation, however, he introduced the topic of John Kerry's election platform.

"Two weeks ago, Kerry said that preventing nuclear terrorism would be his highest priority as president," Maher said, a rivulet of semen trickling down his right leg. "Given that statement, you'd expect Kerry to have a broad, ambitious agenda on nuclear non-proliferation, wouldn't you? Well, I'm sorry, Carolyn, but you'd be 100 percent wrong."

Added Maher: "Interesting, isn't it, that not one American president has made the halt of our nuclear-weapons program a priority?"

When Dobson informed Maher that it would be $500 more if she stayed the evening, Maher agreed to the fee, and reportedly continued to introduce various topical discussions, at one point lifting Dobson's head from between his legs to ask a pointed question.

"He was like, 'How can a whore support an administration that legislates against her own livelihood?" Dobson said. "And I was like, 'Don't call me a whore.'"

Maher did not limit the debate to politics, introducing hot-button issues ranging from space tourism to dead otters to the Supreme Court ruling on HMOs, and even riffing for several minutes on "so-called independently funded drug studies."

Dobson admitted that the author of Does Anybody Have A Problem With That? Politically Incorrect's Greatest Hits did ultimately goad her into a debate.

"I said I heard that Bush created a lot of jobs lately," Dobson said. "He rolled off of me and got up on his knees and was like, 'Created jobs? Honey, tell me, if you don't mind, what exactly Bush has done to create jobs. Do you mean jobs in Mexico and India?' I was like, 'I just know there are more jobs.' He was like, 'Yeah, I know a lot of Halliburton execs who agree with you.'"

"His stomach has this weird scar on it," Dobson added.

There's no use pointing out Reagan's limited mental faculties, since he's become the new messiah in their eyes, but let's look at some others on their list....
