Iran fires missile that can evade radar

TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran's armed forces on Friday successfully test fired a domestically produced missile which can evade radar, state television reported, a development analysts said could be worrying for Western forces in the Gulf.

Western nations have been watching developments in Iran's missile capabilities with concern amid a standoff over the Iranian nuclear program, which the West says is aimed at building atomic bombs. Iran says the program is civilian.

"The missile command of the air force of the Revolutionary Guards has successfully tested a new generation of missiles," Hossein Salami, head of the Revolutionary Guards air force, told state television.

"This missile can evade radar and it can evade anti-missile missiles," he said.

"This technology is completely new, without copying any other missile systems that may exist in other countries," he said, adding that the missile could carry multiple warheads.

Television had said the type of missile tested was called Fajr-3 but Salami did not name the new weapon or give the missile's range, saying it depended on the warhead weight. He said it was a defensive weapon.

The U.S.-based military affairs Web site globalsecurity.org describes the Fajr-3 as a 240 mm artillery rocket with a 25-mile range, one of a group of light rockets Iran has developed mainly for tactical use on the battlefield.

However, it also says Iran has been working on another missile, called the Kosar, that would be undetectable by radar and designed to sink ships in the Gulf.

"WORRYING FOR WEST"

Accompanying the report of the test, state television showed footage of a single missile being launched from land. The television report also described it as a "long-range missile."

Iranian officials could not be reached for more details.

Lee Willett, head of the military capabilities program at London's Royal United Services Institute, a defense think-tank, said the missile could be a worry for Western navies in the Gulf, wary of threats that could cut off shipping lanes.

"It is potentially a significant issue for coalition forces in the Gulf because there is a very important focus amongst the coalition navies on maritime security operations both at and from the sea, with a particular interest in what is happening from Iran," Willett said.

The test was part of a week of Iranian naval manoeuvres that started on Friday and were due to take place in the Gulf and Sea of Oman. Ground and air forces are also taking part in the wargames to show Iran's "defensive capabilities," the official IRNA news agency reported.

Diplomats in Europe said this month that Iran was stepping up development of missiles capable of carrying atomic warheads. An Iranian official denied the charge.

The diplomats, citing an intelligence report, said the program included plans to arm Iran's Shahab-3 missiles, which experts believe has a maximum range of around 2,000 km (1,240 miles), with nuclear warheads.

Experts say North Korea has been key to Iran's missile development. A German diplomat in February said Iran has purchased 18 disassembled BM-25 missiles with a range of about 2,500 km from North Korea.

The Iranian exiled opposition group, the National Council of Resistance in Iran, has also said Iran was working on developing so-called Ghadr missiles, with a range of up to 3,000 km (1,864 miles).

Iran Says It Test-Fired Underwater Missile
By NAZILA FATHI
TEHRAN, April 2 — Iran said Sunday that it had test-fired what it described as a sonar-evading underwater missile just two days after it announced that it had fired a new missile that could carry multiple warheads and evade radar systems.

The new missile is among the world's fastest and can outpace an enemy warship, Gen. Ali Fadavi of the country's elite Revolutionary Guards told state television.

General Fadavi said only one other country, Russia, had a missile that moved underwater as fast as the Iranian one, which he said had a speed of about 225 miles per hour. State television showed what it described as the missile being fired.

"The missile carries a very powerful warhead that enables it to operate against groups of warships and big submarines," he said.

He contended that the boats that would launch the missile were able to evade detection systems but that "even if an enemy's warship sonar can detect the missile, no warship can escape from this missile because of its high speed."

General Fadavi said the missile launched Sunday took six years to develop.

The test, as well as the one described Friday, was part of a week of naval maneuvers. State television showed the missile as it was fired. The news agency IRNA said the maneuvers were to display "the country's defensive capabilities."

Iran's military show of force follows increasing international pressure over its nuclear program. Last Wednesday, the United Nations Security Council urged Iran to suspend its uranium-enrichment activities and asked the director of the International Atomic Energy Agency to report on Iran's compliance within 30 days.

Iran has refused to comply. On Sunday, Iran's representative to the atomic energy agency, Ali Asghar Soltanieh, appearing on CNN's "Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer," said of the Security Council's action, "We express our regret for such a hasty decision because the wisest decision was no action."

The state television video broadcast Sunday showed crew members on a submarine and described them as preparing to launch the missile. Another film clip showed what was described as the missile being fired from the deck of a ship and diving into the water.

The Revolutionary Guards air force chief called the antiradar missile that was test-fired Friday "a very advanced missile."

Mr. Soltanieh, told CNN on Sunday that he did not believe that the weapon could carry a nuclear warhead. "The world should not worry because any country has its own self-defense conventional military activities," he said.

The point is that Dubya has no fucking clue about what to do. He invaded Iraq to get Saddam, using WMD's as justification. Now REAL WMD's are staring him in the face, but he's frozen like a deer in the headlights...

There is a fucking absurd mindset now amongst some Americans that if a country has any weapons that could harm the US they will use them so need to be destroyed.

Thank fuck those idiots weren't around during the cold war. Russia has nukes let's start a war so they don't nuke us???

Here's another couple of factoids about the 'evil' Iranian people.

Only 1.4% of them go to Friday prayers.

400 people attacked the Danish embassy out of a population of 12 million in Tehran.

No, moron, I'm referring to in recent years, Hussein had claimed to have WMD to keep Iran at bay. He was worried that if Iran knew he was helpless against an attack, then they wouldn't think twice in invading Iraq. In fact, he even maintained the lie to even his top military officials until the moment of the US invasion.

I still haven't heard any ideas from the left on what they want to do about this threat that you're all only too happy to blame the current administration for. ou really would sit there after a bomb explodes in the middle of Times Square and shout "This is all Bush's fault!!!"

And if a bomb went off in Times Square today, it absolutely WOULD be the Chimp's fault, because he would rather jack off in Iraq than do anything to secure the borders and seaports of THIS country.

Not to mention that it would be BCE/PNAC/Mossad planting the fucking bomb in the first place.

I just read an article in a magazine about how the Iranians have reversed engineered their AIM-54A Phoenix missiles to effectively bring them up to AIM-54C standard. They've also put their F-14 fleet through a major overhaul to effectively bring them back to zero hour airframes, just when the US Navy is retiring both systems.

In case you haven't noticed, Hussein is currently on trial for GENOCIDE and mass murder.

And FORD don't start in with any of the horseshit that he was armed by the BCE during Reagans presidency. if someone killed a 12 year old with Howard dean's gun, I wouldn't pit Dean as the primary source to blame.

. . . heard, 'Shut the FUCK UP,' about nukes AND baseball, since what made Saddam so nuts was he was handed the old Brit-designed debacle of all the Mesopotamian factions known to be held together as if that would disipate their resentment of the West, since the 1882 Euro-Zionists first appeared in Palestine, looking for Hoobas, to FIND.

Duck, ******s. Some of you still think Dutch can play guitar, when IT WAS REAGANOMICS-RIPOFF PUNK ROCK, the whole time. Fuck YOU Nancies, who think YOUR Ronnie is so fucking hot like Dutch STANK.

Your delusions can get us all DEAD, really soon. I dropped off the 'flying fish' hint (see those cool Iranian cruise missiles?) back when it was fab to diss my replies, including at some punkier websites way back to 2000 or so, and none of my thread-material gets up, but by osmosis. ******S, I am not pleased. I am worth more to Iranians etc., with good ordinance configurations, including some you aren't going to know about until one HITS YOU, than I am to US Catholic Steal, which is illegally interested in the USA, but it prevails.

******s, IF only I had known most of you are worth NOTHING or less, I could have gone Mujahadin way back in 1971, and history would be different for at least awhile. NO VH, for one outcome, would be fine. You VH ******s trying to bet kike with Roth still need to review circumstances, or stop thinking you are so smart. Want ROCK, get it HERE. ******s, I do remember telling you, HERE IS WHERE THAT IS.

True, I could be disgusted at some site that doesn't allow cool shit-fire bursts of epithet, when the stupids really could have pissed me off but forsure disgusted me with stupid-ass SHIT, in print, kinda provocative.

See BASEBALL? It's getting around. NUKES? Same difference. Been here awhile, next thing you know, the Catholic cops are STILL GETTING $70K to start in the burbs, and 90% of base to retire. THEN they ignore the illegal power deals in California juiced all of the deals since 2000-1, and the inflation from these is enough, to kill funding infrastructure, all over the world, SO THERE'S RIOTS IN FRANCE.

******S! You cannot keep your cops, particularly, not your CATHOLIC COPS. They gotta GO. Even if they make you feel ******-secure, when they beat the poo out of you and all you notice is 'whitey,' never mind the Hispanic trash, in internal affairs, who pisses on you for trying to make a report, after your ****** arms get broke.

COPS are going to retire, a LOT of them, ONE WAY, or ANOTHER WAY. They are TOO CATHOLIC, too BOSSY, too full of SHIT.

Having these out and about pissing off the Mujahadin ain't wise. Hadj didn't just say GET OUT OF DODGE, he did it awhile ago. Hadj did not merely mean Jill Carroll or any other misfit journalists. Hadj does not like the devolution of all administrations connected with having Catholic TRASH into blowing people up, get a chance to do that, year after year, day after day, bad mission after bad mission, all trying to hold ungatherable factions together, reach in after Iran, and FUCK the whol mess in smithereens, with Israel as a willing, Cialis-juiced FALLUS.

Look. The Brits tried it, forgot how it ended tragically in 1932, and hey, here are the Catholic-affected, DEADLY-STUPID AMERICANS, at the same lousy, punkass, Emperor wears no clothes geekery, in 2006.

By 2008, you will have no more 007, no shit, lots of Intifada, DO NOT call Hadj in battle a JIHADI. YOU are not with Mujahadin. Call them anything at all, you get their attention. ASSHOLES, that does not work, where ASSHOLES think Van Halen ever played good, so naturally, after he ran out of dupe, he is gonna play even BETTER. What you are looking at re Iran AND Islam, over time, is a ripening of various pan-Islamic incitements, that really are working well enough, so when the HazMat attacks hit us, say 5 AM west-coast and 8 AM east, on some holiday, like July 4, 2008, notice I TOLD YOU SO.

And MAYBE Iran will have something to say about how this happens, or does NOT happen. The US is guilty, sentence is cooking. Fundamental Islamic justice is the result of pan-Islamic and counter=-productive conferenceing, so we have reactions by Islam, designed to communicate BY SUICIDE ATTACKS.

When folks do not notice SUICIDE ATTACK ways, means, and tendencies, arguing with the tactic instead of issues, WE SHOULD WORRY. We do not have the representative government, that has anything but all its 450,000 elected ripoff-resentmentives configured with their heads up each others asses. We face devolution, as a viable nation, where the idiots here, starting a war, are also inciting TERRORISM, hiding their illegal dealings, and mixing war and teror issues, in a way calculated to incite WORSE TERROR ATTACKS.

We may not make it; Grohl's hurricane song ain't over. Yeah, Iran is a problem. Living with people who forget Judea was a West Bank entity until 126 AD yet fund military aid for an adventureland state at fraud all over the map, for its ORTHODOX JEWISH LEGAL SYSTEM, is a much more real, compelling problem. You doodooheaded Judeo-Christians all need to clear out of your useless churches, or ELSE.

******s, stop asking for MONEY, for those crudball Zionists, who let OUR illegal power deals screw up their Zionist economy, so NOW the ugly-fund crusades want extra money for Israeli povres, predictably.

GW and Co. have always worked Reaganomics line on Iran. We could die from that, or from a thousand stings related to hassling pan-Islam.

Not likely, assholes in danger of getting nuked by Iran, but in MORE danger, of nuking yourselves or inciting a math teacher to do us.

i don't know...

i don't actually see anybody here directly advocating an attack on iran.

however, if i think i get their point, it's that we attacked iraq because we felt that, as an anti-U.S. country who supposedly supported our enemies and supposedly had weapons of mass destruction which could attack us, we were in danger and had to strike first.

well, it's been pointed out that that line of reasoning also appears to apply to iran.

only problem: can we attack iran now? do we have the manpower to fight in iran, and police iraq and afghanistan? i'm guessing there's not too many military strategists would suggest we could.

in which case, we better hope that iraq was the worse threat...

My point is that the Iranians will only get "the bomb" after 2009, at the very earliest! We shouldn't panic in some rush to war when our troops can't even secure Iraq... Our Israeli "friends" have had the bomb for about 30-40 years now...

BTW, in case anyone cares, the worst thing we could do to Iran is withdraw from Iraq right now, and leave a big devolving clusterfuck on the verge of civil war on their border...

Seriously though, it would be something if the Iranians now have a superior air-to-air missile platform than anything the US fields. I guess without decent C&C it isn't worth much and by the time the AWG-9 has achieved a lock they're withing AMRAAM range anyway.

I love talking bollox like this.
