Hell of a good year for music. Too difficult to choose.

I notice that there are no US bands on your list.

I have to go for Blizzard of Oz.

You could make a good argument that most of those bands best album is on that list.

AcDc hands down the most talked about in 1980 and one could argue, the most talked about hard rock album today. Has this CD been re-released? If not, I suggest that when it's released again on Dig. remastered, they add in a few old demo tracks or live recordings from that time. Just about every CD after this one though falls short in comparison.

Tough call......

I'm gonna go with this Top 5

1) Blizzard of Ozz - The debut of what could have and should have been the best new metal band of the 80's. However that was prevented, first by Sharon Osbourne firing the rhythm section, and later by a plane crash firing Randy Rhoads :(

2) Back In Black - Who expected such a quick recovery from a band that had lost their leader. Even if you don't think Ac/Dc's done anything worth a shit since, you have to admit this was one HELL of a comeback.

3) Heaven & Hell - Yet another reinvention, this time by a band that sounded nothing like the real Black Sabbath, but sounded damn good anyway. Heaven & Hell gave the impression that the Dio configuration was in it for the long haul, yet tragically only produced three studio albums in the end, with a decade between 2 and 3

4) British Steel - Not Judas Priest's commercial peak, but possibly their best work. After this point it seemed as though everything was deliberately geared towards the commercialism.

5) Permanent Waves - I never considered Rush to be even remotely Heavy Metal, but since they were in this poll, I'll go with it. This album marked a turning point for Rush. The 20 minute mythology mini-operas were gone, in favor of shorter songs. But the songs themselves include some that became Rush's finest material. "Spirit of Radio" alone would make this record a classic. Throw in "Freewill", "Jacob's Ladder" and "Natural Science" and you have a contender for album of the year.

Yeah, actually about 5 different times.

There was the original CD in about 1987.

Then the Albert Productions remasters in Australia.

Then the inclusion in the "Bonfire" box set.

Then the first Sony remaster.

And most recently the "Dual Disc" remaster with some videos from 1980.

It probably wins the award for the "Most Re-released Metal Album of All Time" - if there was such an award.

It's an album that'll kick your stereo's ass if you don't pay respect to it. :D

All those are great, no mistake.

Every one a winner.

But my favourite of 1980 isn`t on the list.

Diamond Head "The white album".

A cult classic, the perfect meeting of the blues of Zeppelin, the riffs of Sabbath and the aggression of the NWOBHM.

JP, Ozzy and AC/DC sure as shit kicked ass that year!!!

Fuck it. Lemmy trumps them all.

Motorhead - Ace Of Spades

As well they shouldn't be.

I never considered CVH to be heavy metal.

I voted for AC/DC. Would never have chosen "Blizzard of Ozz", though I dig it a lot, because VH isn't in the list.
