I think Eric Clapton is an overrated player.

My friend screams at me every time I suggest this,

Is he one of the all time greats?

Personally I don't even think he's that good at the blues

Gimme Jeff Beck any day

I personally agree that he's ALWAYS been WAY overrated, and I've never met or knew a guitar player who thought he wasn't.

Next to Jeff Beck, Crapton is a joke.

Just blues pentatonic...he plays a mean blues solo, and it's not to say he's not talented (the guy does know how to bend, and bend well, and not all guitar players do...and he was able to come up with slow, memorable solos, which is much harder IMO than the faster shit), but 'Clapton is God"?

Don't think so.

What he did with Cream and Derek & the Dominos was pretty good and for that time flashy, after that it became boring.

I've always thought he's been more of a name than a great guitar player. My guess is that he's been around for a long time, so people think he's great. Thats my opinion anyways.

Clapton was good enough for Eddie to rip off. I don't know how you go from Crossroads to Forever Man. Kinda like goin' from You Really Got Me to WCTBL.
