Bush to push for passage of Constitutional ban on gay marriage

(Washington-AP) June 5, 2006 - Gay marriage will be front and center in Congress and at the White House Monday.

The Senate begins debate on a constitutional amendment that would bar same-sex marriage, a proposal that President Bush will endorse at an event.

The amendment would define marriage as solely between a man and a woman, and the president says it would defend an institution under attack.

Opponents say the amendment would enshrine discrimination in the US constitution, denying homosexuals the rights due other Americans. They also say it's a purely political move designed to appeal to the Republicans' conservative base in advance of the midterm elections.

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist says the amendment is needed because the institution of marriage "is under attack" by courts that have legalized same-sex unions.

The proposal needs to pass the Senate and the House with a two-thirds vote.

It would then have to be ratified by at least 38 state legislatures.

But it appears to have little chance of passage in the Senate

this kills me every freaking time. you want to "defend" an institution under attack? outlaw vegas weddings. britney's 2 day wedding does more harm to the institution than elton john getting hitched to some dude.

but, of course, restricting hetrosexuals' rights is generally bad politically, so conservative lawmakers conveniently ignore the fact that the institution they are trying to protect is currently sporting a 50% failure rate.

Gays and lesbians who demand the right to get married obviously have never been. Be careful what you ask for.

When women get married, on average they put on about 4 pounds a year, I reckon.

Doesn't sound much does it, 4 pounds?

Over twenty years tho, that 80's.

So that 100lb bimbo you married, now looks like a bloated Britney!

Standard Republican playbook....

They have absolutely NOTHING to run on except six of the worst years in American history. corruption, lies, a failed and unneccessary war that they can't find their way out of, and an economic nightmare that dangerously close to making the "Great Depression" look like a Mormon church picniic.

So what to do in order to turn out the trailer parks at the ballot?

Blame the homos, of course.

The only thing sicker than that is the "Log Cabin Republicans" probably won't say a word about this (nor will Mary Cheney) because they like the money they're making off the Halliburton stock a little too much.

C.S.F. Lyrics
Artist(Band):Pansy Division
(loosely based on the song "Colored Spade" from the musical "HAIR")

I'm a cocksucking faggot, a flaming faggot
A fuck bunny, fruitcake, cum superdeli, homo
Uncle Walt, Auntie Mame, little sissy pansy
Fudge-packing butt pirate, drag queen, hairdresser
Interior decorator, pervert, pornographer
Sodomite, sex fiend, mincing, limpy-wrist
Scat-nosed poof prince, a resident of Castro
And president of the united states of love
Said president of the united states of love

If you ask me to dinner you'd better feed me
Honeydew, penne pasta, goat cheese, herbal tea
Some Perrier (so you say), some quiche lorraine (so you say)
Focaccia (so you say), radicchio (so you say)
If you don't watch out this bogeyman will get you
Ooooooooh, yeah
Ooooooooh, yeah
So you say!

What do the Democrats have to brag about LM? Who's carrying the ball on "your side"? Who's the shining star you think is going to ride in and be able to say "I'm not Bush and I have no plan" this time? Who's gonna make the people think the Dems have got their shit together and are going to actually push for things that most Americans want, not play to the liberal left minority?

I hope they both get together on immigration and do it fast. They better look at what the people are wanting to happen and try to take credit for it. Americans are tired of this pussy footing around while at the same time having to even make the CHOICE of pressing 1 for English.

What kind of poll numbers are the Democrats in Congress getting right now? I'm betting they are nothing to cheer over either.

And, for the 100th time, I'm not a registered anything.

The article Lounge posted didn't include this gem:

"This national question requires a national solution," Bush said in an event attended by supporters of the amendment. "And on an issue of such profound importance, that solution should come not from the courts but from the people of the United States."

"Profound importance"? Give me a fucking break! What a ridiculous fucking smokescreen.....

And as far as scandals go, how's that William Jefferson thing making the Dems look? Cynthia McKinney helping the party image by crying victim after hitting a cop? Another Kennedy got out of rehab today. That's barely news nowadays.

Never underestimate the power of the Democratic party to split and turn on itself at the crucial time. I may be wrong, but you gotta offer a better choice than just saying "they fucked up. we won't because we don't have anything" That's not gonna cut it.

Of course they will. That's about the time they always drop. And heating fuel prices mysteriously rise at the same time.

But most people (even the dumbasses who fall for this anti-gay hysteria) have figured out that scam by now. They have to fill their trucks and heat their trailers too.

Its still the closest he will get it to pass before November. The Republican party has fucked its self much like the Dems did in 1994.

Never was fearful of Saddam. Terrorists? Only after 9/11. Well not really fear. Still went about my daily life. Just didn't ever want to see something like that happen again. Not sure what killing these fools in sandals accomplishes. Don't see them eating dinner half the time, let alone coming to America to do something crazy. Mexicans? Not really fear, but the ones here illegally are fucking some shit up. I live in southern CA, so the effects of immigration are pretty deep here. What bothers me the most is when visiting Tijuana on a day trip, we park on the US side and walk across. You can literally stop and see about 10 people every 15-20 minutes just make a run right up through the traffic lanes at the border stop. No one even tries to stop them. Like rushing a stage at a Slayer concert.
