Hendrix just seemed shagged out by the time he played the Isle Of Wight, although parts of Machine Gun and In From The Storm totally smoked, and Red House was just great, slow blues. But he looked weary and exhausted.

Even though I think the dude was kinda an idjit for taking all those sleeping pills, I feel bad for the situation he ended up in towards the end of his life.


Between poor relations with his management, various lawsuits over contracts he had signed before he got famous, having to pay for Electric Ladyland studios, the guy just had so much bullshit to carry around, and all he really lived for was making music.

The way his unfinished music was picked over by Alan Douglas and his estate was fought over by his own family all amount to grave robbing, IMO. However, I will say after the Hendrix family got control of the music, the quality of the posthumous recordings was raised a notch.

I dug what they did with The First rays of the New Rising Sun.
