Here's what Wikipedia says about it...it's pretty much ABSOLUTELY TRUE! :)

"Midsummer in Finland is celebrated a lot more intensely as in Sweden. A great many people get indecently drunk and happy. It is also an occasion where many people are looking for a relationship (often rather short one). The statistics of the number of people drowned and killed in accidents are morbidly counted every year while the number of assaults also peaks."

I'll be participating a party that's not near a lake or a river this time, so the chances of drowning will be small...but gotta be careul anyway, hahaha

Any experiences on the midsummer festival?

"Housework, food and drink

In the old days, people did not use to clean their houses or wash their clothes as often as we do today. Some people did it only twice or three times a year, before the big celebrations like Christmas and Midsummer. They also washed themselves, and going to sauna was one of the main events of Midsummer.

Midsummer has never had as traditional foods as, for example, Christmas. One reason for this is that the shortage of food that people often suffered from in the spring-time still continued at Midsummer. What people usually ate were dairy products, because that was the time when cows started giving milk again after the harsh winter. Nowadays most people eat dishes somewhat different from the traditional ones: sausages, new potatoes, herring, cutlets and pancakes.

Alcohol is one of the things people most usually associate with Midsummer. Getting drunk is actually a long tradition; in earlier times drinking alcohol was even supposed to help in getting a good harvest. According to recent statistics by the State Alcohol Monopoly of Finland, they sell five times more alcohol during the day before Midsummer Eve than they do on any normal day. "

Imagine that...a national holiday dedicated for drinking....
