Excellent!

Priest were Gods!

Although I wasn't impressed with them on their last tour.....

Why is that?

The show I saw was great.

Halford's voice was on and the band sounded very good.

let me say one thing, Priest are one of my favourite bands of all time.

However, when I saw at Manchester last year, they got blown off the stage by the Scorpions, who opened for em (I wasn't expecting that, but the Scorps but on a great show.)

Halford must have been having a bad night, he wasn't awful by any menas, but he resorted to talking some of the lyrics in a very theatrical voice rather than singing them.

The bands sound was great - sure it was LOUD but very distorted, you couldn't tell who was playing what at points.

But for me, the biggest problem was that I thought Priest had become as parody of themselves. At times, the show degenerated into pantomime: the lift that took Halford from one level of the stage to the next had people next to me in fots of laughter. People were actually walking out of the show, and I've never seen that at a headlining gig.

I just didn't feel any sense of conviction in the music anymore.

I'm not saying the show was a disaster, far from it. I'l certainly give them their credit, they must have played 20+ songs. But to me Priest are the "Metal Gods" and I was expecting a lot more - maybe that was the problem.

When I compare that show to other "great" bands I've seen in recent years AC/DC, Motorhead, Iron Maiden, Priest didn't even come close. The danger and passion just weren't there. Maybe I caught em on a bad night, as all the reivews for other shows said they were great.

At least they didn't play "Loch Ness".

let me reiterate, I am not slamming Priest, I have been a fan for years.

Merely saying I wasn't impressed with that tour.

binnie, it could've been an off night because I remember reading some reviews that reflected somewhat of what you just said.

But Halford and Co. made up for it in later shows (as the one I saw).

Which Manchester show did you see?

Was it the first night or the second?

I took a lot of the show as tounge-in-cheek-purposely poking fun at themselves at some points (particulary before a more rockin' version of "Turbo Lover", where Halford said "Its time to grab a hold of something soft and make it hard-Turbo Lover").

I honestly can't remember what night it was, but I think it was the second.....

To me the Scorpions were just far superior (and I never thought I'd say that)

I accept I'm in the minority, and that most people dug the shows (if reviews are anything to go by)

Maybe some people could take it as tongue-in-cheek, but to me it was a parody of a formerly great band.

I'd still go see em again tho'

On another note, I saw Ripper Owens's new band "Beyond Fear" open for Anthrax, and his voice is way superior to Halfords now. That dude can scream! I was very impressed.

But of course, you've gotta have Halford in Priest - that goes without saying.

Obviously Ripper's voice is gonna be better now...lets wait and see what happens when he is in his 50s.
