Have been a member for close to a year, and I must say I am very pleased with their service.

Had been totally unsatisfied with the selections at Hollywood video and Blockbuster for years, and most of the Mom and Pop stores I used to dig have went out of business. Plus, with many of the Hollywoods and BBs slowly phasing out their VHS selections, a fan of older titles is pretty much fucked when it comes to many movies made before 1990, unless they did well at the box office, because

a) It can take a while for many of these older films to be updated to dvd, if they are at all -

b) VHS tapes are going the way of the dinosaur anyway, so I'm trying to avoid BUYING VHS movies, thus the fact that the major chains are liquidating their VHS catalogs mainly by selling them out of the store (even dirt cheap) is of little comfort.

c) The big rental stores just don't have that many selections - I haven't been very enthused with the crap that's been coming out of La-La land for closing in on a decade now, so I could really give a fuck if there are 100 copies of the latest Adam Sandler suckfest available.

Netflix has about 50,000 titles to choose from. $10 a-month-one-at-a-time-unlimited is averaging me about 6 movies a month in the time it takes for Netflix to send me a flick, me to watch it, and mail it back to them.

They've got all the newer titles, plus a TON of obscure shit, all on dvd.

Tonight's movie: Billy Jack Goes To Washington.

Next selection: Reform School Girls, starring Sybil Danning and Wendy O' Williams.

God Bless you, Netflix.

They have a lot of the TV shows that are on DVD too don't they? What about music - concert DVD's and stuff like that?

I suppose I could go there and look. LOL

Check 'em out.

Concert DVDs. Tv shows released on DVD. Documentaries on every subject you can think of. EVERYTHING...except for hard-core porn.

You don't have to go to the video store, you can put as many dvds as you want into your queue in whatever order of preference you want, one arrives to you in the mail with a self-sealing, pre-stamped envelope, you watch it, put it back in the envelope, mail it back to them, then once they get it back they take the next movie in your queue and mail it out to you.

I belong to Blockbuster online and my only gripe is they don't have the new realeases avaiable fast enough! I think you should be able to have them mailed to you the same day they go on the shelf but ... nope. How is Netflix ... can you get the current releases right away?

Netflix is okay. Yeah they come fast and all, but 2/3rds of the time they come too scratched up for my DVD player to read.

There is a feature at Netflix where you can put upcoming releases into a future queue, which will tell you when the release date is...I can't honestly say how quickly you could get a highly anticipated new box-office blockbuster release (like, say, the King Kong remake) on Netflix vs. Blockbuster, only because I've been too busy checking out all the other older titles and documentaries to bother, but I see all the new titles advertised on the Netflix home page at the same times they're hitting the rental stores...

Yeah, some of dvds can be scratchy, but look at the rental store dvds, or even think of how many times those vhs tapes had been in other players before they hit yours...

I still have a membership to Hollywood video (I just won't do Blockbuster anymore, Netflix or not), and I'm not trying to sell anyone on anything here, but if you rent a lot of movies, look at it this way: for $10 a month, I get anywhere from 4 to 8 movies a month delivered to my mailbox (depending on how fast I watch and return them). For $10, I'd be able to get two new releases from Blockbuster.

For service and convenience, just makes good sense to me.

Blockbuster has a queue and I keep some future releases on it! They still don't come out for weeks after I see them on the shelf at the store! So I like to get mostly older stuff online too.
Here's what's on my queue now:

Great White: My... My... My... NR Available Now

Darkness: Shadows and Light Available Now

The Notorious Bettie Page R DVD Release Date Unknown

Alice Cooper: Brutally Live Available Now

Jackyl: Live at the Full Throttle Saloon Available Now

Zakk Wylde: Black Label Society - Boozed, Broozed & Broken-Boned
