RIYADH (Reuters) - Saudi Arabia on Thursday blamed "elements" inside Lebanon for the violence with Israel, in unusually frank language directed at guerrilla group Hizbollah and its Iranian backers.

"A distinction must be made between legitimate resistance and uncalculated adventures undertaken by elements inside (Lebanon) and those behind them without recourse to the legal authorities and consulting and coordinating with Arab nations," a statement carried by the official news agency SPA said.

"These elements should bear the responsibility for their irresponsible actions and they alone should end the crisis they have created."

Israel struck Beirut airport and military airbases and blockaded Lebanese ports on Thursday, intensifying reprisals that have killed 55 civilians in Lebanon since Hizbollah captured two Israeli soldiers a day earlier.



"They (the elements) are exposing Arab nations and their gains to grave dangers without these nations having a say in the matter," said the statement, which reiterated Saudi support for Palestinian and Lebanese resistance against Israeli occupation.

The statement did not make clear what Arab gains might mean.

The Israeli army said Hizbollah fighters rained more than 100 rockets on northern Israel in their heaviest bombardment in a decade, hitting Israel's third largest city, Haifa. Hizbollah, a group backed by Iran and Syria, denied it had fired on the port city.

Arab governments have agreed to send their foreign ministers to Cairo for an emergency meeting on Saturday to discuss the Israeli attacks on Lebanon and the Palestinian territories.

But the 22-member League has not yet seen specific proposals for a joint Arab response to the Israeli attacks.

Major Arab governments other than Syria are not expected to give unqualified backing Hizbollah, or the Palestinian militant group Hamas which is holding an Israeli soldier hostage.

Nobody is condoning Hezbollah's reckless attacks on the Israeli Army, but reducing Lebanon's infrastructure is a pretty shitty, reckless action in itself...

BTW, Saudi Arabia hates Iran anyways becuase they're not Arab. It's sort of like Fundamentalist Mormons vs. Fundamentalist Evangelicals as to which extremist vision of Christianity is less faulty logical and intellectually unsustainable...

I would like to think so. When you take the pro-peace platform of Jesus Christ, who is quoted in the Bible in His own words, and compare it to the OT warmongers who "say" they got their ideas from God, I'd go with JC as the authority.

And while I'm no expert on the Quran, I'm reasonably sure that what Mohammed actually said has nothing to do with how Wahabbists or Shiites practice it.

So, if you operate on the basis that the words of Jesus Christ are the closest representation we have of God's actual opinion, then you can also consider the account of JC's second coming, which will bring 1,000 years of peace to this planet.

I can understand them being pissed off about Israeli occupation, but if the dipshit terrorists in Hamas & Hezbollah would stop their activities, then Israel would not be fucking with them, and everything would calm down.

Good Point, all i heard before the 2000 elections was how Bush was the "chosen" one...but chosen for what?, and by what? or who?

The very first gaff where he was caught on mic using the F-word was enough to make me stand up and say with 100% confidence, "He's a false christian, he doesn't practice what he preaches"

I got a lot of flack for that by a bunch of people who for some reason overlooked his hypocracy.

Jesus did say that a man is made unclean NOT by what he puts in his mouth, but by what comes out of it.

However, I never saw that as a reference to merely four letter words, but the real sense of being profane and blasphemous that happens when you have someone like Chimpy claiming "God told me to bomb Iraq, so I did" or Fred Phelps claiming that God "hates" just about everyone on the planet except his sick little cult.

Jesus would probably tell me not to speak in anger at all, rather than count the letters in the words I use.
