He's fucking hotter than a firecracker...

29 in a row today...

56 is out of the question...but this kid can fucking hit?

any predictions?

(take note...every time I've posted a thread during a hit streak like this...it's ended the next game...lmfao)

I'm going for 35 here...

but won't be surprised if it's 29...

You need a good amount of luck to keep the streaks going...

I know he's gotten a couple of hits late in the games this week....

But yeah, 35 sounds about right....

I don't know if Dimaggio's hit streak record will ever be broken. That one seems like it's unbreakable. The more players try, and fail, to get anywhere remotely close to that record, the more you realise just what a big achievement that was by Dimaggio.

Well, just to add a little spice onto Joe D's streak...

If it wasn't for 2 great stops at 3rd base in game #57, he would have hit in 73 straight games....

Because after the 57th game, in which he finally went 0-fer, he started another streak and hit in 16 consecutive games....

And oh yeah, in minor league in 1933, he had a 61 game hitting streak...

guwapo_rocker

He got 30 today.

POJO_Risin

Keltner's plays...were more an adjustment of Dimaggio's stubbornness than anything else...

I think one of the plays...in a show of gamesmanship...Keltner challenged Dimaggio to bunt on him by backing all the way up to the edge of the grass (JoeD never bunted for a hit during the streak), and Dimaggio promply smashed a shot down the line that Keltner fielded...and nipped him from the foul grounds...

the other play, Keltner was standing right where Dimaggio hit it...

Boudreau's play...was a bad hop that LB snagged by his head...for a double play...

I think Dimaggio never had 2 games in a row during that season without a hit...and I think the Yanks went something like 45 and 11 during the streak. I could look it up...but fuck it.

The amazing piece of the streak is that it's never been CLOSE to being touched since then...

Rose with 44 (tied Keeler for 2nd I think) in 1978...

Molitar with 39 in 86 or 87...

Rollins made it to 38...but had an off-season in between...

a few others...

Ty Cobb had a 40 gamer...and I think a 35 gamer...the only to have 35 or more...twice...and hit something like .480 if you combine both streaks...which is fucking incredible...

Utley's at 30...and the people to get to 30...and crash and burn before 35 are numerous...

the real pressure with start at the magic 35 game mark...

and...

you still have 21 games to go just to tie Dimaggio...

luck is a big piece...but media may be even bigger. Baseball was big back then...but rumors of the US joining WW2 were swallowing up most of the radio news...

but the summer of 41 was huge...

and the dancing of Williams and Dimaggio...wow...

Teddy ballgame throws down .406...the last person to hit .400...and doesn't win the MVP...

but 56 in a row...

wow...

Ruth's record fell this year (though tainted). Maris's record fell recently (again tainted).

I am going to have to be selfish on this one and I hope he doesn't do it. :p

Not that I'm worried about it he's a loooong way off still.

POJO_Risin

Utley's 0-4 right now...led of the 7th...

he MAY have one more at bat...

it may be over...

and irregardless...he won't break it...

POJO_Risin

Utley will be up again...probably this inning...

Delucci up with runners on 2nd and 3rd...one out...

Utley on deck...

POJO_Risin
08-02-2006, 10:59 PM
Okay...Delucci was pinch hit for...and the dude hit a triple...scored two...

Utley is up...1 out...runner on third...

0-4 so far...

this is it...they are up 11-7...

POJO_Risin

now he needs a miracle to get on base...

Howard singled...

2 outs...

POJO_Risin
08-02-2006, 11:06 PM
I take that back...1 out...

Utley reached...

not a single...

POJO_Risin
08-02-2006, 11:09 PM
Holy fuck...they changed it...

he grounded to the pitcher...and the pitcher fucked around...

originally called fielder's choice...

changed to a single...lmfao...

the streak continues...

POJO_Risin
08-02-2006, 11:11 PM
Finally...fucking baseball does something to take the fucking shine off of fucking Bonds and everything else gay in the game...

I hope Utley gets past Rose...

POJO_Risin
08-02-2006, 11:32 PM
In my humble opinion...it should have been ruled a single to begin with...

It was a nubber between the pitcher and the third baseman...and the pitcher picked it up...looked at the runner at third...then threw to first...

Utley beat it out...

they called it a fielder's choice because of the indecisiveness...but I've seen a thousand plays like that called a hit...

would have been a shitty way to end the streak...

but...

these are the "luck" calls that get you big #'s...

ALinChainz
08-03-2006, 12:08 AM
No problem with it being called a single.

I've seen worse calls. He beat it out.

but you gotta give him the benefit of the doubt there...

Agreed, there was no fielder's choice on that, he beat it out clean...

Mr. Vengeance

Considerable debate has been going on in Phillies-land over whether that was a hit or not.

I'm just happy the streak continues. It's been one of the only fun things in an otherwise shitty Phils year.

Va Beach VH Fan
08-03-2006, 07:26 PM
It defintely wasn't a fielder's choice, the pitcher didn't throw anywhere but to first...

And the pitcher didn't commit an error, Utley beat the throw...

I'll say the streak peters out at 37.

POJO_Risin
08-04-2006, 06:55 PM
I said 35...and I think we are there now...

as for the fielder's choice call...

any time a pitcher even makes a move to another base...you can call it a fielder's choice...

it doesn't happen often...but it does happen...

either way...

it was an acceptable call...one of those calls that you talk about during a streak...

what...out of the 35 games...21 of his hits have come in his first or second at bat...

if there's any doubt about who's the best 2B in the game...

DlocRoth
08-04-2006, 07:24 PM
No kiddin...

And ESPN said that something like 21 of his games have been multi hit games.

I think they said Joe D. only had like 12 in his whole streak.

Not comparing them, I'm just sayin........

POJO_Risin
08-04-2006, 07:29 PM
Well...no doubt about it...

this is a great streak in many ways...

perhaps he can make it to 40...and put a stamp on it...

35...I think...is a big stamp...

but 40...is a streak for the ages...

DlocRoth
08-04-2006, 07:39 PM
It's impressive, but....

He won't even come close to catching ol' number 14...

I making a call.

It ends TONITE.

Little Texan
08-04-2006, 07:51 PM
I'd like to see him make it past 40, but in reality, I don't see him making it there. They said he hasn't hit well against Glavine, so it's very possible the hit streak could come to an end tomorrow, if not tonight.

POJO_Risin
08-04-2006, 07:51 PM
Well...he's 0-1 to start the game...

And I called it.....Utley is done......

oh well,

he's tied for best streak ever by a 2nd baseman...

it looked like he just started thinking about it too much and it finally got to him; my hats off to him though, having more multi hit games than the yankee clipper did (utley had 22, joey d had 21) and putting on a display for the fans in philly, and helping them have a shot at the wild card...

thats eerie that you called his hit streak ending at 35 games on the 29th of july poj...

btw, if i have a son, i'd want him to be like charlie hustle on the field, not off of it...

I AM a baseball junkie...and couldn't stand Charlie Hustle...

You grow up in Cleveland...and the only thing you want to do to anyone related to Cincinnati is figure out how to launch piss the couple a hundred miles across state...

throw that in with the lying pissbag baseball sideshow he's become...

and you come up with one rancid, pus-filled cunt...

With Utley's streak over, I can now listen to the gaggle of Phils apologists continue to claim that trading Abreu has caused this recent Phils hot streak. Somehow all our problems were because of Abreu and his $15 mil salary, doncha know????

Pointing out to them that the Yankees have won 5 in a row and moved into 1st with Abreu seems to be beyond their scope of reason, however. Ah, the joys of being a Phils fan.

POJO_Risin
08-05-2006, 09:58 AM
I'm an Abreu fan...and think that he's a great player...

but highly overpaid without his power production...

that being said...for them to accept that deal...with another year on his contract...

is fucking ridiculous...

Mr. Vengeance
08-05-2006, 11:14 AM
Abreu got that huge deal essentially because the idiot Ed Wade wanted to give a big "fuck you" to Scott Rolen, for not re-upping and accusing the Phils of not wanting to win (valid point). So he gave Abreu a ton of cash, that at that time wasn't even warranted.

He's not being paid within reason, given his stats, but he was worth more than 4 guys who'll never see the majors.

lmfao...I refuse to check Manny's streak...

but I just did damn it...

Manny has a sac fly...

here's a thought...

what happens if you are up to bat 3 times...or 4 times...whatever...

and you sacrifice all 4 times...

and you end up 0-0...

is that not getting a hit?...when you didn't technically record an at-bat?

Here ya go bro:

In baseball, a hitting streak refers to the consecutive number of official games in which a player gets at least one hit. Games in which the player does not have any official at-bats are ignored (neither break the streak nor add to the streak). If a player has a sacrifice fly, but no hits, even if the player had no official at-bats, the streak is over.

POJO_Risin
08-05-2006, 08:35 PM
This...

Games in which the player does not have any official at-bats are ignored (neither break the streak nor add to the streak).

doesn't fit this...

If a player has a sacrifice fly, but no hits, even if the player had no official at-bats, the streak is over.

they both say the exact opposite thing...

Va Beach VH Fan
08-05-2006, 08:40 PM
The rules are pretty iffy, IMO...

The streak does NOT end if he sacrifice BUNT, but it DOES end if he hits a sacrifice FLY....

http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/official_info/about_mlb/rules_regulations.jsp

Determining player performance streaks:
Consecutive Hitting Streaks: A consecutive hitting streak shall not be terminated if the plate appearance results in a base on balls, hit batsman, defensive interference or a sacrifice bunt. A sacrifice fly shall terminate the streak.

Consecutive-Game Hitting Streaks: A consecutive-game hitting streak shall not be terminated if all the player's plate appearances (one or more) results in a base on balls, hit batsman, defensive interference or a sacrifice bunt. The streak shall terminate if the player has a sacrifice fly and no hit. The player's individual consecutive-game hitting streak shall be determined by the consecutive games in which the player appears and is not determined by his club's games.

POJO_Risin

lmfao...that's fucking hilarious...

sac bunt vs. sac fly...

so they are insinuating that you purposely sacrifice yourself with a bunt...but not with a fly ball?

Ah well...not like it will ever come into play either way...

but doesn't make a whole lot of sense...

POJO_Risin

Manny Ramirez' streak is currently at 26. And the scary thing...is that he probably has no idea what a streak is, or, that it's something he finds daily on his drawers.

POJO_Risin
08-12-2006, 06:31 PM
Manny Ramirez continued his streak today in dramatic fashion. First, he threw out Brandon Fahey in the 9th at third base...that ended a potential game-winning threat. Then, laced a single in the 10th...to win the game, and continue his streak. It now stands at 27 games.
