So is this genre supposed to be combining country and punk?

Ever heard of Rank & File?

Love that album (debut, I believe) that had "makes me glad I'm not in love" on it.

"Cowpunk" was a term that the media attached to a certain group of bands in the mid 80's.

It was kind of a fitting term though, as the bands who got tagged with that label usually played some hybrid of country and punk.

Lone Justice was probably the most successful of the genre.

They got an opening slot on U2's "Unforgettable Fire" tour and one of their singles was written for them by Tom Petty & Mike Campbell.

And I fell in love with Maria McKee's voice - and the rest of her.
