Does anyone else notice this?
I know the songs played on the radio are all computerized now so the dj doesn't have to do any real work. No record to flip, or cassette to play. Just enter a track number. But I notice some songs are played faster. Not much, 99% of the audience probably can't even tell. But I can hear the difference. The other day I heard Dream On and it was definitely at a very slight higher speed. My guess is they can squeeze more advertising in and still say they play a certain amount of songs per day. It's like a 3:00 minute song played just fast enough that it only takes 2:50 minutes. Now there's room for one more 10 second ad.
I hate this. The songs don't sound quite right.

Interesting. I've never noticed. Radio now pretty much sucks. They play the same damn songs everyday. And on top of that you have to listen to boring ass commercials. I wish I had sirius radio.

It's very subtle, but I can tell on certain songs that I know really well. Just a hair faster. Even if they only shave 3 or 4 seconds off, if they do that with 20 songs throughout the day, that's an additional minute of advertising space. It's all about $$$$.

That's the reason they are sped up ever so slightly - over here, radio is utter shite.
There are about 20 songs that just rotate on all the major stations over and over.
There is no mix of old and new. You've got "classic" stations and ones that only play contemporay stuff, as tho people don't like both!

It's not like playing a 33 at 45 speed. But since they are all computerized, they just make it so a song that is 3:00 is played in 2:56. Figuring since it is so slight, that the public won't notice.

I try an aviod it as much as possible, makes me feel like i am from another planet.
I just find myself thinking "what do people like about this?"
Couple of months ago Elton John said that there wasn't one song with a decent melody in the top 100 - that none of these songs would become "classic" as a result.
i have to say that I agree with him - hook writing is on the decline big time....
