David Ortiz wins games single-handedly. He ends games with historic clutch hits.

History.

The birth of a Boston legend on par with Larry Bird and Bobby Orr...

I am pretty close to speechless right now.

I only wish my son (who is almost 2) could share this with me...

What a monster shot, you'd
think they would have walked
him with his clutch
shots lately..
how idiotic!

he is AL MVP no doubt.

That bastard prevented us from a first place tie last night.

Yeah, PA he's having a monster season and will be a frontrunner for the award.

Long live Big Papi! The guy is a beast. He's having a monster season and is dragging the Sox, kicking and screaming, to first place. He definitely is deserving of the MVP.

Anybody else see the stat that since July 31, 2005 Big Papi has 60 home runs and 166 RBI's?

That's fucking monsterous...

I would be seriously surprised if he didn't.

If he doesn't slip, it's locked up.

Even funnier.....

The Twins just showed him the door....

Fuckin idiots......

I didn't see that, 166 RBI's! And as you know, so many clutch hits; what does he have, like 6 game ending RBI hits?

They need to give it to someone who actually plays a position... ;)

J/K, he's having a helluva year....

Personally, I just hope he continues to play his current position well: Game-Winner! ;)

Papi...

See...the thing is...is every hit the guy makes in the ninth inning adds to the bigger persona...

the Papi persona...

bigger than life...

Some players are superstars...some live forever...

he may end up being one of those guys...

and those fucking stats are sick...

The Twins did show him the door...and it was damn stupid in hindsight...but I don't think ANYONE thought the Sox getting Ortiz was going to change their future...back then...

I remember when he was with the Twins...looking at fantasy (of which all live revolves around) baseball, the knock on him was that he played first without hitting for a lot of consistent power for a guy his size..."but he could develop a home run swing..."

He showed glimpses of it...here and there...but never anything consistent...

Of course...the 160 dingers and counting he's hit in the past four years may lead one to believe he's found that "home run swing?"

lmfao...

Quit rubbin it in ya bastard. LOL

Was he dealt (and if so...for whom?)...

or was it a free agent pickup...

Holy fuck...didn't he lose out to Mientkiewitz...in Minny...the year or two when Dougy actually looked like a ballplayer?

DlocRoth
08-02-2006, 12:25 AM
Naw man....we got nothing for him.

And Dougie did look good that first year he started...

Hit .300 and shit, I still say he has the best glove at 1B in the bigs.....

DlocRoth

Twins refused to pay him 2M and released him.

The fuck of it is, Ortiz loved Minny. He was HUGE in the clubhouse.

The fucking MARINERS traded him to us for Dave Fucking Hollins....

Jesus, talk about auspicious beginnings.

Funny though...most dingers he hit with Minny was something like 20...and had over 400 at bats...

and the knock on him was really the lack of power for his size...

the funny thing is...

his stats are eerily reminiscent of Mo Vaughn...of course...

Mo was good...but the late inning heroics weren't necesarily his style...

DlocRoth

True.

Well, the critics were right, I think he found that power stroke.

Now if Mauer does, watch the fuck out.

POJO_Risin

Mauer needs to not be a catcher...

not because he isn't a great catcher either...

of course...it can be down the road...

DlocRoth
08-02-2006, 12:44 AM
Shit, he has a gun.

But you're right.

Make him the 1B, let Morneau be the big Papi of Minny....

POJO_Risin

Mauer is one of my favorite up and comers...

great size...WILL hit for power...

but won't be helped by playing catcher...

you gotta move him to first...or DH...

because if he ever concentrates on his hitting...

wow...

DlocRoth

He's the real deal...

Played his high school ball 10 blocks from my house.

His and my schools were in the same conference.

He used to hit opposite field dingers across the street off of a bar on the regular.

Perfect mechanics.

And yeah, his size. He's a hell of alot bigger than he looks.

POJO_Risin
08-02-2006, 01:03 AM
Isn't he 6'4"???

I know he's tall...not atypical catcher size...

was he a catcher in high school?...or was he converted...

DlocRoth
08-02-2006, 01:10 AM
I think 6'4, yeah...

And yep, he's always been a catcher.

You don't convert a kid with that much talent into a catcher...LOL

Qb of the football team that always went to state, star forward on the Bball team...
