I didn't follow the case that closely and I'm wondering if Vince and his wrestling corp. compensated the Hart family? Were there any charges filed?

From what I pulled up...

WWE paid the family 18 million....

The British maker of the harness that failed also gave a settlement to the family, but unsure how much that was...

Quit blaming Vince...

A real tragedy, I don't know which legendary wrestling family has suffered more, the Hart's or the Von Erichs.

POJO_Risin
08-06-2006, 04:23 PM
Owen barely had a bad match...

and had several great feuds...

with Austin...of course...his brother...

on and on...

POJO_Risin
08-06-2006, 04:43 PM
Holy Lord...it's not even close...

the Von Erichs by far...

Owen's accident was just that...

but the Von Erich's...wow...suicide galore...obviously a mental condition in that family that they never dealt with...

Jack...the oldest son...died young...when he was electrocuted and drowned I think...

David died...supposedly of some heart deal...but it is commonly known that Bruiser Brody flushed drugs down the toilet...he died of an overdose...or a reaction to drugs...and right before he was to beat Flair for the NWA title. Many consider him the best of the Von Erichs...and he died at 26...way to young.

Kerry became the best known...probably because his brother died...he ended up winning the NWA belt from Flair at the David Von Erich tribute show. He eventually was in a motorcycle accident in 1986...that left him with a badly injured right leg...and his foot was amputated. He still wrestled, told noone about the amputation (many competitors had no idea)...but couldn't kick the drugs...and after a couple of arrests in 1993...he killed himself...he wasn't the first though...

Mike was next in line...he didn't want to wrestle at all...I even remember an interview saying the absolute only reason why he wrestled was because of his brother dying (David) and Kerry and Kevin needing someone to fill in for a feud with the freebirds. He ended up having injury issues, and offed himself in 1987...a drug overdose...

Chris Von Erich was the youngest brother, and simply sucked as a wrestler...he looked like Kerry...but just couldn't wrestle. He killed himself in 1991.

Kevin, the 2nd oldest brother retired in 1995...and is healthy...and the only remaining son...after 3 suicides, an OD and an electrocution...

I know the Harts have had some bad luck...but...nothing like that...not REAL Harts anyways...

Anyways, the WWE Hall of Fame is a joke.
Because Bruno Sammartino isn't in it.
Vince Jr wouldn't have a wrestling league without him.

POJO_Risin
08-06-2006, 08:39 PM
Isn't that Bruno's choice?

WARF
08-06-2006, 08:54 PM
Yeah, but that's because Vince McMahon ruined wrestling and made it entertainment. Bruno couldn't stand that shit... I think they parted ways in 87' after Vince got rid of his son David.

They are a classic case of Eddie Vs. Dave

They both made the WWE successful...
But they can't stand each others guts...
Even though they were a pretty successful commentary team..

ULTRAMAN VH
08-06-2006, 08:54 PM
I remember reading somewhere that Bruno wanted nothing to do with McMahon and the Hall of Fame. Don't quote me on that though. Just out of curiosity anyone remember Kevin Sullivan and Austin Idol??? Sullivan was a muscle man in the early days, before becoming a fat slob during his tenure with the NWA.

There are a bunch of rebels who can't stand Vince...

Ted Dibiase
Macho Man
etc etc...
You will never see in the hall of fame...
But then again... the Hall of fame is already tainted by having Pete Rose and Verne Gagne in it.

Vince and Bruno were a commentary team...

I've watched a long fucking time...and don't remember that...

and wasn't Dibiase a part of the Hall of Fame inductions this year??? Didn't he introduce...Sheri maybe...or someone...

and I know he was part of Wrestlemania...

Dibiase did induct Sheri Martel (Sensational Sheri) into the Hall of Fame this year (back in April).

He actually works for WWE (not sure what his role is though).

I was watching the PPV that night, and happened to be recording it, still have a VHS tape of it, that and the Tribute to Owen the next night on Raw, that was surreal, watching wrestlers break character and start bawling their eyes out....
I have the Life And Death Of Owen Hart book as well, pretty sad read, the last guy to talk to Owen before he went up on the catwalk was Harly Race....

j/k

yeah it was the most brutal ppv i have ever seen. the most real, I believe, that the WWF ever has gotten.

But the show must go on. "We need sweepers out here, someone to clean up this blood, straighten that turnbuckle out and tell The Godfather that he still gets paid for the night...Good work everyone"...

That's pretty much how it went.

Not even sure some of the wrestlers knew whether Owen was dead at that point when they still had matches to do.

I think Austin and 'Taker were the only wrestlers that KNEW and still had to work their match. ( I guess the official T.O.D was called in from the hospital before the main event) Then a minute would pass before Ross would tell the World.

Owen Hart was, from head to toe the most charismatic wrestler to never hold a World title.

he was. but at that period of time, Vince could've thrown anyone at us with muscles and tassels...We needed a superhero type wrestler while Hogan was going to be taking a break.

So really, Warrior was made by Vince and the morphing was put on the shoulders of Hellwig.

Man, I was a HUGE Owen fan when I saw this. Me and my brother, who also lived in Calgary, used to wrestle eachother pretending to be Owen and Bret.

To me, and others might disagree, but the WWF died when Owen died.

imo the best match i have ever seen in my life was the owen hart vs brett hart cage match...too bad its not on youtube, it was an amazing match

i was a brett hart fan for a long time up until NWO came and i chaged to a Kevin Nash fan, but owen was amazing too i remember when i heard he died i was shocked bc i was like 10 at the time and at that age wreslters are super human and they dont die its absurd to think that could actually happen

Did you ever see "The Self Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior" ?

They say Jim Helwig was the only wrestler that everyone hated.

Lots of good matches on the extras as well.

I never knew that he demanded 100 k for summerslam 91' or he wouldn't wrestle.... I thought he got injured... vince just fired his ass.

POJO_Risin

Yeah...Helwig's time there was interesting to say the least...

and I didn't know until year's later that he was canned from the WWF as well...

you just hear what your told...and of course...no internet...

as for Owen...

let's not overdue it here...

he was a great wrestler...who lived in the shadow of his brother...

who was far less charismatic...and far LESS of a high flyer and show stopper...

but...was absolutely more into the business...and understood it better...

had Owen had ANY of that...he'd have been twice the superstar Bret was...and nowhere near that fucking scafolding...

The match is on WWE`s "Incredible steel cage matches" DVD.

It is probably the best cage match I`ve ever seen.

The same way the number of near falls made the Steamboat/Savge match from WM3 great, the number of near escapes made the Bret/Owen cage match a classic.

Owen was far better on the mic than Bret ever was, although I`m not sure if he was a better wrestler.

The two of them could sure work a great match together.

Owen never had the drive to be a top wrestler, in fact had he lived he was going to quit when his contract was up and become a school teacher, according to his wife Martha....
