Rolling Stones - "We Love You"

Out on bail from the infamous Redlands drug bust, the Stones laugh at their own situation, the authorities and the tabloid rumors surrounding the arrest.

Backing vocals by Lennon & McCartney and horn section arranged by John Paul Jones.

Rolling Stones - I Got You Babe (from Ready Steady Go)

No, they don't actually SING it. It starts off with a note perfect Sonny & Cher impression by Brian Jones and Cathy McGowan (host of the TV show). Eventually the rest of the boys jump in with the lip syncing fun. Even manager Andrew Loog Oldham.

Probably the only time you'll ever see the Stones lip syncing to someone else's song

My Generation (from the Smothers Brothers TV show)

Pete Townshend later blamed his partial deafness on this performance. If you have seen it before, you know why....

A Quick One (While He's Away) - This was The Who's first attempt at "rock opera". Townshend would later introduce this song as "Tommy's parents". This performance is from the Rolling Stones Rock n Roll Circus, which was filmed for the BBC on December 10, 1968, but never aired on TV. It's rumored that the Stones , weakened by Brian Jones' drug problems, knew that The Who upstaged them with this performance, and that was their main reason for shelving the concert video....

Wouldn't It be Nice - obviously this performance is not from the Pet Sounds era, but it was just too fucking funny to pass up. Al mangles the lyrics, Brian's nowhere to be found, and Mike the Dork has either turned Amish or is auditioning for ZZ Top - who nobody had heard of at that point in time. Pass the bong.....

If you want to check out an interesting 60's band look up The Ventures. They were a great instrumental band who were way ahead of their time. They were doing things with the guitar that were pretty amazing, way before the Beatles, Hendricks and Clapton.

Lookin Out My Back Door - Call me crazy, but John looks a little baked here. And I think his pants and his couch were made from the same piece of leather. But do we blame Buck Owens, the statue wearing high heels or the flying spoon?

:D Indeed John wasn't on clear water that day.

I second everybody's choice here so far. And Creedence is one of my very top fave bands ever.
Fogerty did a few solo albums (the latest dating from 2003), and "Blue Moon Swamp" (1997) definitely stands out IMO.
I even think it's the greatest solo album by any musician who's once been in a legendary band. :cool:

My favorite bands from the 60s, chronologically:

The Beach Boys (no need to explain);
Ike & Tina Turner (Tina Tina tina... :));
The Rolling Stones (though I'm much more interested in what they did from 1968);
The Animals (Eric Burdon's voice, man!...);
The Kinks (the finest, smarter than the Beatles IMO);
The Who (of course);
THE PRETTY THINGS (the biggest injustice in rock history is how they're underrated... "Rosalyn", "Don't bring me down", "£SD", a good deal of great tunes and two extraordinary albums, "SF Sorrow" and "Parachute");
The Yardbirds (not all they did, but quite a few songs);
John Mayall's Bluesbreakers
Otis Redding (for "expression");
Cream (high class compositions);
Ten Years After (though they did their best in the early 70s I think);
Janis Joplin (she still gives me shivers, and she's the only artist who does :));
Jimi Hendrix (of fucking course)
The Doors (maybe the most original after the Pink Floyd of the first three singles and first album);
Pink Floyd ("The Piper" alone, as in the sixties, with the exception of the soundtrack of "More", they did nothing upright IMO);
Canned Heat (nearly everything they've recorded is worth being explored);
CREEDENCE;
Jeff Beck with Nicky Hopkins, Ronnie Wood and Rod Stewart (that band was even heavier than Cream, which means a damn lot);
Jethro Tull (the first two albums are splendid IMO);
Johnny Winter;
The Stooges (who are amongst the ones who came with some real new stuff).

I've had trouble with YouTube (the searching engine has been very slow for a couple of weeks), but I'll try to post a vid or two of the Pretty Things - I know there are. :cool:

BTW, in my area YouTube really is fucked up, so would any of you mind displaying either of these songs by the Pretty Things? I will find a way to thank him/her. So, any of the following, thanks in advance:

"Get a buzz"/"Rosalyn"/"LSD"/"Don't bring me down"/"SF Sorrow is born"/"Midnight to six man"...

A faggotty band spams the search ("Dirty Pretty Things", just parasites IMO).

I can't give you 5 stars twice, so here's a video that I hope you've never seen, I doubt it a little, but well, here it is. :cool:

Jimi meeting the Stones some day in the end of 1969, probably during their series of gigs at the Madison Square Garden.
Sorry, it's wmv.

The best to do is to download it and watch it on your own (Windows) reader. There's trouble with the one of "zshare", at least for me.

Jimi with th Stones must be nothing really new I'm afraid.
For a change I will promote a fellow countryman, Serge Gainsbourg (1926-91), who was one of our very best songwriters.
This isn't really rock here, but hey, Brigitte Bardot is singing along with him! :)

Well there was a rather large audience for her and the other great English speaking artists in the second half of the 60s, as what was played by French musicians sounded pretty "gaga".
I'll have to check whether she ever played in Paris; she played in European countries like Germany, but in France, I dunno.
I personnally discovered her records in 1990, got stung right away and quickly bought all of them.
I don't think there's a special French attraction to Janis, it must be just a coincidence if uploaders are French speaking folks. :cool:

Now here's a 9-mn series of excerpts from the legendary 1967 Monterrey Pop Festival.
The last minute of Janis's "Ball and chain", a bit of The Who, Townshend evoking his memories of Jimi, various artists reacting, and finally Jimi's version of "Like a rolling stone" (not that much of a success IMO). :cool:

Are you serious, that was a lip-sync at the Rock n roll Circus??

Everyone else played live, so I just assumed they did too.

I get the feeling that Rod or Woody or both weren't satisfied with how "Plynth" turned out on the Beck-ola album, since they made a point of re-recording the whole song on their first Faces album.

I've just listened to it again, because you made me doubt what I'd said.
It's a playback of the studio version... A shame. Just listen to "This was" or any "best of": it's rigorously that very soundtrack. :cool:

It was Mick Abrahams on the guitar on the first album ("This was", 1968), Martin Barre arrived on the second album ("Stand up") - the first two are my fave-; Iommi? Is he left-handed? :confused:

If it's him, then it explains the lip-sync and the fact the white left-handed guitar isn't plugged. The drummer doesn't really hit his kit, and... I'm not sure that you can play both the bass and the harmo at the same time (well, why not, but I'm sure that Ian Anderson did both flute and harmonica on the studio track that, once more, you hear in the R'n'R Circus video. :)

If you think of Led Zeppelin, which I think you do, then OK, it did work.
