View Full Version : Saw Ted Nugent and he was sounding great through 5150s

Last time I saw Ted Nugent was when I was 13 years old and he came swinging out in a loin cloth.

I caught his show in Boise, Idaho a few weeks back and the dude was playing amazingly well. His Gibson Birdlands sounded wonderful through those 5150 amps and cabs and he would get in front of the speakers and play the feedback in a masterful way.

To be honest I thought he sounded great and played better than when I saw him in the loin cloth days.

Even if you don't like his political rants he's worth seeing if you dig people who master their instruments.

Yep. I would agree with you. I saw him this summer in an outdoor venue and he sounded great. He was playing this bad ass 911 Tribute Gibson LesPaul which has the US Flag Custom Paint Scheme. He of course talked some politics which I could have done without but all in all, it was a great fucking show..

I still love to hear "Stranglehold"...

Cheers,

KiD

Yeah, now that I remember Ted was playing through the 5150's on that last reality show he had ...

He also was playin' through them on VH1's show ... the last show when they played for free in Vegas ...

Ted is a great guitarist, great riff writer, and a so-so lyric writer.

5150's are nice, had one for a little while.

....waiting for the obligatory "Ted sucks at guitar because he's pro-guns" post.....

Ted didn't talk much politics the night I saw him. He was in a good mood and joked that in five years he would qualify for the senior citizens discount at Denny's. Then he goes, not bad for an old fart then he started blowing some stuff through the guitar. He tottaly kicked ass on Great White Buffalo. He played so fucking good I had goose bumps and the last person who gave those to me was Stevie Ray Vaughn when I saw him live years ago.

I noticed when he got right up to the speakers it was his left ear getting the full on blast and let me tell you his rig was loud as shit! I guess he blasted that ear enough and did it in so theres nothing to lose.

Ted also knows touch. He can rip it pretty fast and fluid but he gets into he notes and gives it a subtle touch as well. He plays some mean blues as well. I think he's underated. He blew me away he was so good and I didn't see one mistake that night.

LOL! He's an egomaniac. Actually, he's a hyper motherfucker and kind of reminds me of Roth in that way. Deffinately a guy you are either going to hate or like.

For me, I like to see someone beat the odds and take their passions and be successful at them. Ted did that and is doing it. He's got quite the outdoors business going and really music is a sideline to that.

I wish Eddie Van Halen had the fire Ted has. Van Halen would still be worth something.

Ted has passion, I will give him that much....

Honestly, I dont like his music, at all ???
Im not sure if its because we were not exposed to
it much in Oz, when I was growing up.
(The Nuge is not Huge in the land of Oz)

Honestly, Ive had people here send me MP3's
and I didnt like any of them. Even the one song
that does get played here, "Cat Scratch Fever"
I reckon sucks..

Maybe I need to see a doctor ????

Im a big fan of most American Hard Rock..
He just never plays anything that sounds
original to me ???

But he is passionate, and power and passion go
hand in hand....

And its all about how you use that power, and for what purpose !! ;)

You have to see him live. The guy can play anything. Ted is Ted. He's a redneck who spats his oppinions. In this politically correct age, that kills a career but Ted is a maverik.

He owns sevral large ranches. One in Michigan and one in Texas that I know of. He runs a hunting expedition company. He has a line of bow hunting equipment and outdoor equipment.

He still does music because he has a passion for it but it's not his mainline thing anymore. What's funny when Ted did VH1's SuperGroup a concert promoter offered them a lot of money to tour and Nugent couldn't do it because he had a business to run. The other guys were drooling to go on tour because they wanted to resurrect their careers and probably needed the money.

Ted is going to go on making money his way and die an old man living life the way he wants to. He's a true rebel. He kicked life in the nuts and did it his way. You have to respect that.

You don't need a doctor...and the Nuge isn't huge anywhere that I'm aware of...

I've tried to dig it time and again, but it always bores the life outta me. He doesn't sound "powerful" to me, just loud.

I must have caught him on a good night. He had great tone and was playing very well. He was doing some cool feedback stuff like Hendrix used to do.

Uncle TED used to favor FEMDER amps back in the day...

I remember a buddy buying an old combo amp once owned by TED up at AL NALI'S in ANN ARBOR back in the late 80's....

The thing was hot-rodded to hell....and seemed to weigh about 500lbs!!!

Did it sound good? I didn't like his Fender tone at all but his Byrdland guitars through the 5150's sound tottaly magical.

Ted is grate. he knows how to play rock music. notice there are lots basic rock guitar skills in his songs...
the beginners should learn his classic ones.

Yup. Ted is a blues inspired player like Clapton and Page. I think his wildness and radicle politics keeps him from being one of the mainstream greats. If you can look through the politics and antics, there's some good stuff there.

I'm pro-guns as well (so is our Constitution). Ted sucks because he's pro "kill anything moving to prove I'm a man".

And his music pretty much sucks with the exception of 3-4 songs (and those 3-4 songs are average at best).

Uh, in my opinion.....

I don't think I like the "tone" of your post. :-)

Nah, I just never liked Ted's music or his wildman attitude. Although that was/is his shctick. That's like not liking Kiss' makeup I suppose. To each their own.

Ted is a fretboard master but he's got the magical touch good blues players have. He tottaly has some great runs up and down the neck using feedback and some creative picking to get some cool vibe.

To be honest, it's very Hendrix in it's own way.
