I read an interview with YM years ago and he was asked why he produced his own records.

His reply was something along the lines of, "do you think Michelango let people touch up his masterpieces"!

Ego-go-go!

Ego-go-go!

LOL!

Read this "masterpiece":

It was you, it was me,
And we would last forever.
Any fool could see, that we were
Meant to be

Without you, there is no meaning to
My life.
You're gone and it cuts me like
A knife.
How could you leave me?

You don't remember, I'll never forget
You just don't remember, I'll never forget.

Why did you turn away,
Let your love fade away and die.
You became so cold, you made me feel
So old.

When you left, you broke my heart
And just to see.
How many pieces there would be,
After you leave me.

You don't remember, I'll never forget
You just don't remember, I'll never forget

He's been writing the same song and playing the same annoying guitar solo for 20 years!

Yep, that's the truth!

But there's no doubt that he can really, really play!

Well, with his talent on the guitar, ego is more than just his right, it's his responsibility. Compare him to Ed today and you tell me who'd end the night looking like talent, and who'd walk away looking like an amateur.

Love him or hate him, Malmsteen deserves respect, no doubt of that.

I don't think anyone would dispute that he can play, the question is whether it's always tasteful!

Also, a lot of people would question his ability to write songs, but that seems true of many solo guitarists!

It's shred, with Rainbow and Survivor thrown in for good measure. At the end of the day, you either like it or you don't. I actually prefer the knowledge that Yngwie won't surprise me for the worse by violently changing his style from album to album, ala Metallica throughout the 90s (which isn't to say that he couldn't, should he so desire...I believe he could).

He'll always have his detractors, of course; even CVH had it's naysayers back in the day. All just boils down to a matter of personal taste...buy it if you like it! If not, wallets can indeed stay in your pocket...

Well said!

We'll agree to disagree on Malmsteen!

Zakk Wylde is a good guitarist, but he overuses those damn pedals. Malmsteen's excellent, but he uses speed too much; it makes his music tacky.

He's got some absolutely beautiful classic Ferraris though. How many people make a real living playing guitar. Yngwie stayed true to himself and always found an audience somewhere in the world and enjoys the good things in life doing something he loves. You have to respect that.
