he's OK, good even, but to me, just so sterile compared to an Yngwie, SRV or Hendrix...

I always think that he sounds like his guitar is turned up to ONE...

Hmm. Sounds like you did'nt watch any more than the first vid.

His playing style and tone are instantly recognisable. His tone is very refined and controlled. He usually sets his tone to 1 or 2 on his gtr.
I think his playing and sound have a lot of colour....IMO.

Hmmm...

it has color, or colour, but just so clean and sterile...

Early Beatles had more oomph, to me...

Not to take away from Eric, here's a guitar lesson...

;)

Vaughn and Johnson are probably 2 of the finest interpreters of Jimi's music and chops.(Yeah,we all know about Randy Hanson) But Stevie
was (to me anyway) 5 licks & 2 tones. Regardless ,a master of his craft (blues) and ones of my favs. as well. Tone is a personal taste...

In Canada we spell color -colour. Why ? Beats me ! ;)

Why? Because we prefer the correct spelling. ;)

Cliffs OF Dover was a big hit for him back in 1990-91. Really rare for an instrumental to be a hit record, but what the hell.

I saw him a few years back with Derek Trucks band opening here in Gnashville. I was so close I coulda reached out and touched him.

I agree, very laboratory sterile.

But damn, he can play.

A vast majority of Gnashville session guitarists aspire to be as lsterile and soulless as him.

It is nice on one hand, to see a guitarist with flawles technique....every note perfect, ever melody imeccable.

But it sucks, because there is no FIRE!!!!

That was one area in wich Whangbar Guitarstring to9re the Ryman up when G3 came to town.

Vai was too sterile...Satch was kinda in between, while Whangbar tore the place up with his usual blazing approach.

I will go see Eric again when he comes here. He played a theater a couple of years ago doing an acoustic set, but I missed it due to prior commitments.

Ah Via Musicom is an album I listened to for weeks when it came out. Sure his technique is a bit sterile, but his songwriting is inventive, and attractive to the ear.

Thus endeth my muffukking lecture on my opinion of his ass.....
:D

"Venus Isle" is by far my fav. His planets seem to align on this one.
Sterile? I guess in some areas. The guy's an obsessive perfectionist for sure.
Soulless? Check out "When the Sun Meets the Sky";)

Yes, I said laboratory sterileness has no fire.

Then I said at the Ryman, Yngwie tore the place up.

Comments on two different things.

What is there not to understand?

He's deffinately not a rockstar type of player. He's the mad scientist, musician type. Worth seeing and very good at what he does but not the type of guy I'm going to buy the CD and listen to it. Not really my cup of tea.

Vai, Satch, and Johnson kind of put me to sleep actually. Good players all of them but something is missing.
