Yes there was a time when Rap auctually did have meaning and wasn't just about Guns, Ho's, and Money...
There was auctually some thought put into it...A comparison to possibly 70's era punk, in sense of attitude..
Anyways, Here is Grandmaster Flash "The Message" a pretty good song..

Someone dubbed the original tune over the video, becasue the video was the "clean" version when it aired on MTV, obviously.
Love those guys though. That album, As Nasty As They Wanna Be, is great! Funny as hell.

Well fuck, doesn't Dave have a varied music influence and aren't Ed and Alex classically trained musicians? Classic VH isn't one of those bands who came together and said: Only metal influences us and no other music! You are not worthy if you follow outside of that realm! AAAUUURRRGHHH!!! :D

Yes, it does.
Otherwise its hards to recognize the good quality
over the shit...
I listen to all forms of music and can recognize
when an artist is talented at that genre, even if
I dont personally like that style of music.
But Rap, (to me) is basically black street talk
recorded to repetitous drum machine loops...
Hey, if that rocks your boat, buy one of those
little Boss portable Dr Beat machines, and
go hang out in da hood !! You will be in heaven... :p

I depends. 90% of it is shit. But you do have the guys who were innovators, who did more than just rhyme over a ripped off riff, and also had either some social commentary or humour for the listener.

Rap is crap(minus the "C")
A beat does NOT = music
Talking is NOT music
Sampling...I mean STEALING music bytes and putting it over a beat does not make you a BAND or MUSICIAN !
Can't stand the shit. Never could -never will......

Snoop Dogg nicked some 'beats' and 'rhymes' off this....
rap music is basically other music but rap fans (wiggers, chavs) are too ignorant or stupid to notice....
at least stealing from other songs is less obvious in rock music, i suppose....

A-FUCKING-MEN to that!!!
N.W.A. and EAZY-MUTHAPHUKKIN'-E, The "Hip Hop Thugsta" were all innovaters of REAL GANSTA RAP. Not too mention they really had good hooks, samples and beats courtesy of Dr. Dre and Yella.
Fuck, Eazy financed their first few albums from his drug deals in Compton.
Again, M.C. Ren was the shit and let's not forget Ice Cube!!!
I'll embarrasslingly admit, every now and then a certain rap tune will make me shake my ass and laugh i.e. The Fresh Prince's "Gettin' Jiggy With It" but I LOVE N.W.A. and Eazy-E. Still listen to it as I have since 1987.
I'll also admit that Eminem's put out some semi-decent shit as did Tupac.
