Look, I know I've posted this before, but we have some new blood in here now and I'd like some new perspectives on why this very basic solution isn't being discussed more.

Forget private accounts [too expensive to fund upfront]

Forget raising the age, or lowering benefits, or means testing for that matter because AARP will never allow it.

The simple solution is so fucking obvious.

RAISE THE DAMN CAP ABOVE $90k

Why not simply raise to collect SS taxes on income up to $150K ???

Are those of us making more than 90K really really going to miss that amount between 90-150 that goes to SS ???

It would fund SS into the next century.

Then we could move onto the BIGGER crisis, Medicare.

WTF is wrong with this simple, cheap plan???

So, you want to raise taxes to solve the problem.

Lounge,

I actually agree with you on this. They should raise the cap.
It should be at least 200K, if not more.

LMMFAO

Ding!

Welcome to the standard retort.

Yes. Fine. You want to frame it that way?

YES. "RAISE" TAXES.

Got a better plan?

Let's hear it.

So, we can spend billions to go to war, but..........

Exactly.

And I wonder when the cap was last raised, if ever. GOOGLE:D

Why doesn't it go up each year like a C.O.L.A. ???

And can it really be framed as "raising taxes" if it's done as a ................wait for it.........

BI-PARTISAN SOLUTION :D

It's not really 'raising taxes', unless you make over 90K.

The richer, and I say that with a half-smile on my face, would only have to put up with a little more coming out of their pockets. 100K a year doesn't make you rich by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, I've seen people make 100K+ a year and have lawn chairs in their living rooms.

I'm taking a cue from Bush and Pelosi. I'm reaching out to the other side of the aisle in a bipartisan effort to solve the problems facing our nation today.

I just would like to hear ONE argument against it that doesn't sound like a RNC/DNC/FAUX/RUSH talking point.

Great, so I'm Pelosi in this thread?

I hate walking in pumps. :D
