WARF

Which film do you think is the best American horror film of all time?

(Example: The Shining was filmed in England... Suspiria in Italy.)

You can only pick one!

Poll closes in 3 Days

First and foremost... I think American horror sucks...
So the best from this list would be the original Evil dead... followed by TCM and Last house!

John Carpenter's masterpiece, the original, "Halloween."

Before ticking... Do we actually vote for the best one, or is there progressive elimination?

The best IMO is "Evil Dead", as you both get the shivers at times, AND (often) laugh your ass off.

I have the DVDs of "Chainsaw Massacre", "The Exorcist", Carrie", "Halloween" and "Evil Dead".

WARF, why do you say that American horror productions "suck"?

Do you want to see French horror movies? :D

Where's... "The night of the living dead"??

it's gotta be up there on the "jump" factor...

Sure, I'll take "Living Dead Girl" over any American horror film.
I'm a surrealist.
I love Jean Rollin... did I spell that right?
I also like Lucio Fulci and Dario Argento etc etc
Italian horror being my favorite.

HOSTEL !!!! Amazing flick. Pussy, humour and more than ample violence and gore. And a pretty good script too.

Evil Dead II is perhaps the greatest horror/cult movie ever. If you are a fan, Bruce Campbell (Ash) has just finished a movie titled "They Call Me Bruce".

Plot Outline: B Movie Legend Bruce Campbell is mistaken for his character Ash from the Evil Dead trilogy and forced to fight a real monster in a small town in Oregon.

Poltergeist I would put 2nd, but it's not on the list.

I saw Agento's "Suspiria" on French TV last Thursday night.
I was rather disappointed as far as thrills, but I thought it was masterfully shot.

Jean Rollin... Didn't he shoot "The Scent of Mathilde"? It's still one movie I've got to see. It's said to be a real great one.

Yeah, it's a great film Jerome!

I love horror films.
Especially low budget euro-horror!

I went with 'Halloween' as my #1.

Also, just saw 'Jeepers Creepers' again recently and while not the best ever, still one good horror flick.

Based on your list, two movies really struck me as the best of the bunch. Halloween and The Evil Dead. However, I watched the Evil Dead recently and I must say, Halloween has stood the test of time a little better and probably is the better horror film..

I really enjoy the way Halloween ends and Halloween II starts right where it ends.. It is a shame that rest of the movies are crap..

(Also agree with Sadaist, Poltergeist should be on the list.. that was a great horror film. When that clown comes to life.. Forgetta bout it! I still hate clowns because of that movie!)

Cheers,

KiD

Just watched that one for the second time (since it was first released) this Halloween and it didn't do much for me. While I'll agree, it's a differently made and kind of movie, it just didn't frighten me in the least bit. However, the first time I saw it, I thought "What was the big deal with that?" Only to find myself walking my dogs through a nearby park (it was also autumn at the time and the park has wooded areas) and being scared shitless thinking that the blair witch was following me. lol.

At the end of the day though, that fucking "Exorcist" still scares the shit out of me. I've only seen it once and will NEVER watch it again!!!

I went with Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Great flick...all of those movies up there absolutely deserve their place among the best American horror films ever made, and any of them really deserve the win.

Jérôme, have you seen the American re-makes of "La femme Nikita" (who became "Point Of No Retrurn") and "The Vanishing"???
Although they are not horror movies, you would totally understand what Warf means...

I don't like it when EVERY special effects, have to be used over and over in horror movies. It usually makes up for lack of content!

Well I've only viewed a scene from "American Psycho", but it raises an important question. Do you like Huey Lewis & the News?

I'm not scared of clowns (unless they do, kill kids) and "IT" wasn't too, too scary to me but this scene, where you see his red nose in the sink... made me wake up my B-Friend in the middle of the night to escort me to the bathroom... I just couldn't look in the sink!

Yep, it was in Theatres this summer. You can rent it on DVD now. The trailer actually looked promising and the kid who played Damien looked evil... Not terrible but definitely a let down..

I usually don't like re-makes but I could certainly download it and give it a try...

CLOWNS!!!
Be careful tonight, when you open your closet... and DON'T look under your bed... that's usually where they hang out (they grab your foot as you jump into bed)!
Also, don't shut your eyes when taking a shower... when you'll open them, there might be a CLOWN standing right in front of you... with a knife!!!

Watch the movie Candyman and play the infamous prank on your friends. It always seems to work!

Exorcist will always be one of the most scariest of all time. I've heard of people leaving the theatre because they couldn't take it. And this was the special edition that they re-released 6 years ago.

Nightmare and Friday The 13th didn't scare me at all. I grew up with them and never had a problem.

He did an autograph signing a while ago. Everybody who has met him say that he is the funniest in person! Nice guy and always brings out good stuff and especially when he works with his good friend, Sam Raimi.

The Raimi Brothers + Bruce Campbell + Rob Tapert = awesome team!

Agree with everyone about "The Excorcist" the first time I watched it
as a kid, I had to literally run from light switch to light switch at
night, and was shit scared in bed...

I watched it just two weeks ago, its held up really well..
Evil Dead makes me laugh more than scare me now,
(But it did freak me out when it first came out)
Poltergeist should be there too, I assume everyone knows
the little girl (Carol Anne) actually died after filming
those films.... Thats very freaky.
