If they are going to spend big money then they should go after pitching because they can't go into another season counting on Pryor and Wood.

Have you given up on Mark Prior yet?

Hyped indeed....

$136 Million for a leadoff hitter with 160 strikeouts, only a .351 OBP, and one of the worst defensive players I've ever seen, whether that's 2B, OF, or waterboy....

Sure, he'll get ya 40 HR's in Wrigley, but that's about it...

Uh, yeah I guess, but my only reason is because the GM is too retarded to make any decent decisions.....

Trust me bro, the guy is horrible defensively, absolutely horrible...

Watch him with those windy days in Chicago....

Waste of money.

Any one of you would take him. Nuff said.

He's a very good power hitter, no doubt about it...

But your leadoff hitter can't have 160 strikeouts and a lousy .351 on base percentage..

So maybe he will blossom in the little league field known as Wrigley Field, and it's short porch in left field, but they're playing with fire with the other aspects of his game...

Yes. But $136 million for 8 years? Come on, he's not worth it.

He's probably not going to be hitting leadoff, for one thing. So we can forget about that 160 strikeouts being a problem at the one spot.

And there's no cap in baseball, so I don't understand all the bellyaching about money.

If I were the Cubs, I'd bat him right in front of Derrek Lee.

They would have this for their middle three:

Soriano (40+ homers in '06)
Lee (40+ homers in '05)
Ramirez (30+ homers in '06)

Not to mention they already have one of the best hitting catchers in the game, and their young guys are improving.

They're gonna have a KEN GRIFFEY JR. on their hands...

He'll be 40 when his contract is up...

I'll bet he'll be injured for half of those years.

Either that or his production will slip into obscurity...

He's already on the downslide of his career... and will be 31 opening day.

Huge Mistake.

Should have been a 3 or 4 year contract max!

How could he be on the downside of his career when he had a 40/40/40 year last year?

That's not what I'm reading bro, says he'll be batting leadoff...

I would take Griffey in a heartbeat...

Sure, he's not what he once was, injuries will do that to ya...

But he's still an excellent CF'er and still quite potent at the plate...

I'd rather have Justin Morneau BABAY!!

Sorry...had to say it.

Soriano's not even close to past his prime.

He's a 40/40 threat, not to mention he had 20 assists in the outfield last year.

The Cubs could spend $300 million and they'll still suck.

I bet Pinella dies after choking on a Billy Goat burger days after Prior again shows what a pussy he is, Soriano gets ball cancer and Ron Santo loses yet another appendage.
