Stripping is art, Norway decides

A Norwegian appeals court has ruled that striptease is an art form and should therefore be exempt from value-added tax (VAT). The owners of the Diamond Go Go Bar in Oslo had refused to pay VAT of 25% on entry fees as tax authorities demanded. The local authority had taken the club to court over its refusal to pay tax.

Lawyers for the club's owners argued that striptease dancers were stage artists just like sword-swallowers and comedians and deserved the same status.

"Striptease, in the way it is practised in this case, is a form of dance combined with acting," the judges ruled, according to AFP news agency.

The court's ruling upholds an earlier verdict of May 2005.

"One can suspect there were moral scruples behind the tax authorities' claim since all forms of stage dance are free of value-added tax," Reuters news agency quoted the club owners' lawyer as saying. The court ordered the state to cover the court costs of the owners of the Diamond Go Go Bar.

This is fookin' ace. What's wrong with striptease anyway? In Finland Funland it's still considered pretty much considered a sin. Isn't it better that us...uhm, I mean the men and women in general can ease their sexual frustration by seeing some bare skin in a bar, instead of hiding in the bushes, peeping, or hiding under a long jacket and a toupee when trying to sneak into a secret erotic bar, if there's one in your town? Norwegians are ahead of us in pretty much everything...

The Value Added Tax in Norway is ball crushing. It's like 23%. Buying anything in Norway is very expensive. I got revenge though. I had to see the dentist in Norway and the dental office refused payment. They said I was covered by the state medical insurance. I told them I was American and not Norwegian. They said it didn't matter. In the states that dental work would have been $800 easy.

So if you are sick, visit Norway and check yourself into the hospital. LOL!

My great grandfather migrated to the US from Norway. We used to go there every few years when I was a kid. They really do have some good things going. Their taxes are too high but the state has a pension fund for all the citizens. They buy securities with the oil and natural gas money and are growing the money for future generations.

Norway also is storing seeds in a climate controlled vault incase all the genetic tampering with our food supply goes very wrong.

Iceland that was settled by Norwegians will be the first country to run everything on hydrogen fuel cells. Iceland will be energy independant using geothermal and hydroelectric power.

I must say the Icelandic girls are a great lay too. They want to get off the island and love foriegn men. Many are good looking. So if you are sexually frustrated, you may find relief at the Blue Lagoon in Rekavik. LOL!

I agree... It's shit expensive here. It's nice with that dentist thing.. Youth like me get it covered if they have braces, if ya don't, it's Uber Cheap to see the dentist if you're under 18
.
Above 18 = Uber Expensive.

Yup. It's 18-22% in Finland. We have a state medical insurance covering a lot as well, meaning we only pay parts of medication, dentist and hospital fees...

However, we're not as wealthy as Norway, we don't have oil etc. so Finland is a bit cheaper than Norway but the salaries are smaller too.

Plus, asking why is it that we don't have the same "pint" size for beer, when you order "a big beer" in a bar the size may vary from 0,3 to 0,6 litres. AND you may get it in a plastic cup. It's a disgrace!!!

There's this girl I teach who everyday 1) tells me something about Sweden and 2) keeps asking me if I'm Swedish because we look exactly alike. I brought in my kid pictures of when I was her age and she was just floored.

The kid has me itching to learn a new language now.

Alright, I'll bite. Why is that?

Because of microcultural differences within bars. You go from one bar to another and the drinks are insanely different.

Methinks...

An "artform". Cool.

Will the appeal decline now that it's more legitimate?

They have Beer tests every summer here to find out who has the cheapest beer..

It's always some shit hole that sells it for about 30 Nok, and the most expensive is.. I think over 70 Nok maybe.

Heard on the news today one woman is getting about 1 million Nok to complete an art project.

That project was mainly about Porn.
She said herself this would be the perfect porn movie..

And she also said she wants to show it around in schools.

Finland, 3-6 euros depending on the bar or a nightclub...well, some sell it for 2 euros but they are going to disallow advertising Happy Hours on the street or the newspapers, really.

The euro now is around...uhm...1,33 dollars.

$1.33 isn't much for a beer...

They cost about $4.00 a beer here at bar...

Yeah, I mean the average beer in a bar costs a little less than six dollars.

I like Finland's liberal gun laws. Their Sako rifles and gun powder. I like to have sex with Swedes, in fact, I married a Gotland girl.

I love Norway's scenery. It's better than Switzerland in my book. Let's not forget Scandinavian seafood!

He is saying that the beer is 3 - 6 Euros
1 Euro = $1.33
so Finland beer's are $3.99 - $7.98

Also 30 NOK = $4.92
so in Norway beer's are like $4.92 - $11.48 (30 NOK - 70 NOK)

Id better get drunk here were beer's are $1.00 - $5.00
