drum shape

Are these fancy hexagonal shaped drums just for kicks or is there a sound difference between that and the standard round drum (if they were made of the same materials?)

the old hex Simmons were electronic trigger pads. the shape couldn't effect the sound. Roland had triangular pads back then, some of the others were round. none of the pads made sound on their own.

Guitar Center recently brought back Simmons drums, but now they are round, and a cheap alternative to the Yamaha and Roland digital sets.
