The Police.

These guys including Sting, are talking again. They've been silent with each other for years.
Now I'm reading they might get back together and cut a new album as well as tour.
That would be great.
I've always liked these guys musically.

Stewart Copeland? Best living drummer.

I would have to put Neil Peart from Rush in the #1 spot myself.

Peart and Copeland are like opposite branches of the same figurative tree. If you could combine the two, you would have the perfect drummer.

If you combine the two, you get Gene Krupa.

But I agree...Peart is the best, too. Judgement call. I give the edge to Copeland.

The Police would be one of the few bands who could reunite and probably pull it off well.

It sounds promising but we shall wait and see. Once they start splitting up royalties, then the shit hits the fan.

I love it as long as I didn't have to sit through Sting's fucking horrid solo work, which I'm sure he'd try to crowbar into the set. Or listen to him do accoustic versions of Roxanne and other classics.

ppg960

Hopefully, it will be straight ahead Police. I'm sure that's what the fans want.
I find most of Sting's solo stuff to be shit.

I predict that "IF" they reunite, Copeland will punch the fuck out of him AGAIN !

Where did you read this?

It would be a miracle if the got back together, Sting is the main reason for it not happening.

I remember seeing the Police during the "Police Picnics" they held in Toronto, Canada and catching the final tour in Buffalo.

Great band!

As for drummers, nobody can touch Neil Peart! Best EVER!

If they do it, I agree that it should be straight-up Police, and not essentially a Sting solo show featuring special guests Summers and Copeland.

About the only bits of Sting's solo stuff I found to be of interest were parts of the first two solo albums and the Bring On The Night film, but that stuff was jettisoned from my collection so long ago, because I just wasn't listening to any of it anymore.

The Police were fucking brilliant live, especially on the tours for the first three albums. The one tour I caught them on, for Synchronicity (their last one, although nobody knew it at the time), I really wasn't that impressed. Didn't suck, but far from the best show I've ever seen.

I saw it on TV. Like ET or something like that.
They claim to have accurate info. Just the fact they are on speaking terms is amazing.

We'll see if it pans out.

DrMaddVibe

I saw the Police at Disney World during their 1st "tour".

Saw them later at the old Tangerine Bowl for Syncronicity.

I've seen Sting at the Royal Oak Music Theater.

Stewart Copeland at a drum clinic.

I don't want to cheer too loudly for this reunion. The last band that I got worked up about reuniting was the Clash and we all know what happened there!

I hope they do get it back together. Their body of work is amazing. There's bound to be something new from them if they get back together.

Can't see Sting and Stewart working together long term again. Sting is far to used to having employees that he can instruct on how to play. He's always said it takes about 30 seconds of playing with Stewart to remind him why they broke up. Stewart always plays too fast, Andy's always off key, etc, but Stewart will never play the way Sting wants and vice versa.

They were fun to see at the hall of fame ceremony though. Stewart looked so excited to be playing with Sting and Andy again.

twonabomber

as much as i'd like to see the Police get back together, i doubt it will ever happen. Sting doesn't need the money and doesn't need the aggravation of the other two.

i don't mind Sting solo up until Ten Summoners Tales. after that he's gone into Elton John territory.

I was about to say the same thing...

if anything...VH would open for the Police...

They got together for an interview...I think...with Revolver in 2000...

the interview was hilarious...

after a few minutes...they were bickering and arguing...acting a lot like they did the last few years...

but that's what made them great...

Copeland said, "Reunion? Maybe if Sting weren't making so much money by himself. He'd be stupid to do a reunion gig."

he's right...

but I can only hope...

It would definitely be a reunion show worth going to, even if new material weren't forthcoming.

The Police would make serious bank all over the world.

My only concern would be Copeland's age. I mean, that guy was a fuckin' MONSTER drummer with the Police, but that was almost a quarter century ago...he may need some serious doses of Viagra to get it up to speed...the last thing I heard of him doing, drum-wise, was getting ready to tour with the Doors 21st century, but then he broke his leg or some shit...

Has anyone heard him play recently?

Andy Summers is older than both Sting and Copeland...Summers will be 64 on New Year's Eve. Sting's 55, Copeland 54.

ppg960
12-27-2006, 10:24 PM
It could turn into the biggest grossing tour of all time. These guys are Huge in Europe and Asia as well.

POJO_Risin
12-28-2006, 01:11 AM
I agree...it would be huge...but they better fucking hurry up...

Of course, Andy Summers wasn't their first guitarist.

In 1977...they had another guitarist, Henry Padovani.

They started as a three piece in 1977, with Padovani as lead guitarist. Summers joined them later in the year as lead, and Padovani stayed on as rhythm guitarist.

This year, he put out a French speaking album, that Copeland and Sting performed on.

I don't think they had performed together since 1977. 30 fucking years. So if Summers kicks the bucket, don't worry. Padovani is only 54...

I didn't know this before. Thanks for sharing this.

When I listen to the song...I understand why Sting wrote the hits. Perhaps this guy brought them the reggae influence to counter Sting's jazz bullshit. I always dug the Copeland ones better, but the radio friendly songs were all Sting's...mostly.

Their band was one fueled by inner turmoil. It spilled out into their performances and recordings.

I highly recommend "Klark Kent" to any of you Police fans. It was music that wasn't going to see the light of day as The Poiice. Andy and Stewart goofed on Sting by wearing his trademark sweater for the liner pics. I have n original pressing...of green vinyl...Kryptonite label...ya!

I dunno....Ghost In The Machine was, to me, the Police at their peak along with Zenyatta Mondatta.

Synchronicity had several great tracks, as well.

Come to think of it, despite being sick of Every Breath You Take, King Of Pain and Wrapped Around Your Finger due to radio overkill, I'd put Synchronicity right up there along with the rest of them.

I agree. There's nothing on the internet about a reunion, and Copeland said in an interview as late as September that there were no plans to reunite though he'd like to do it and remains a possibility, though unlikely.

And Copeland and Sting don't really hate each other, they speak and are on good terms. The all had dinner together at the Sundance Film festival after Sting found out that Summers and Copeland were in attendance.

Working together is a different story though...

Interesting, but it doesn't sound much like The Police. I'd say it's more in Peter Gabriel territory.

Looks like Sting and Stewart only play on the one song. Glen Matlock of the Sex Pistols plays on a couple of tracks, and Steve Hunter on guitar for a couple, but the majority of the instruments are played by Padovani himself. Who would have thought he was that good from listening to "Fallout" back in 1977??

Didn't Steve Hunter play something on ALAE??

I love the Police!

Always have.

It'd be great if they reunited for a tour.

But Sting and Copeland hate each other's guts and don't get along, even worse than Ed and Dave.

Even back in the day, if they weren't performing, they'd be fighting.

I'd be surprised if they can play past a few shows.

As posted above, Sting & Stewart did work together on Padovani's record. Yeah, it was just one song, but it's a start.

Over at Links someone said that CNN briefly posted an item about a new Police box set being released, consisting of remixes, unreleased stuff and live material, but the labels got pissy and pulled the news or something.....

Right now the Police reunion is looking more credible than Van HALEN.

I think it would make one Hell of a double bill, honestly. And unlike a certain tour in 2002, I really wouldn't mind who opened or closed the show, provided both bands played a full set.

No doubt.

It'll take us back to 1984!

(although Mullet Boy will not be there). :D

Sit Down Waldo!!

There have been Police reunion rumors as long as there have been VH rumors, and the Police at least manage to get together every 5 years or so, at least long enough to play 15 or 20 minutes. But they have never gone beyond that point. Why is that? Because of the strained relationship between band members.

So in other words, that WAS the facts available. There's still no confirmation of a tour, though you can bet the pressure is on them to do so, IF a box set is in the works.

So sit down, take your Ritalin, and shut your ass up!

Police Reunion Buzz Builds
Updated 01:36 PST Fri, Jan 05 2007
The rumor mill is cranked up to full volume on the subject of a long awaited Police reunion for 2007. According to the British tabloid press, the band is planning to reunite for a U.S. and U.K. tour to commemorate their 30th anniversary.

Of course, the tabloids also allege that rehearsal dates have been planned, tour dates are being finalized for May and June, and a formal announcement is looming.

Calls by Pollstar to various sources resulted in no new information or even confirmation of the rumors. However, the following nebulous message attributed to a spokesperson at Interscope Geffen A&M Records, the band's label, was posted January 3 on Sting's web site:
"As the 30th anniversary of the first Police single approaches, discussions have been underway as to how this will be commemorated. While we can confirm that there will indeed be something special done to mark the occasion, the depth of the band's involvement still remains undetermined."

There are certain people here who "shoot first and ask questions later". As far as the Police go, it seems as if there is more movement in that camp than usual.

The Police are rumored to play their first reunion show at the Coachella music festival near Palm Springs, California, this fall.

There have been a number of hints, most notably the use of "Roxanne" as the password for the Coachella Ticketmaster ticket presale.

This has been a long time coming.

Sting, Andy and Stewart....together again!!! Fookin Aye..

Report: Police Rehearsing For Tour In Vancouver

Sting

January 25, 2007, 4:00 PM ET

Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.
The Police will rehearse for their upcoming reunion tour at Lions Gate Studios in Vancouver, according to reports today (Jan. 25) by the city's classic rock radio station, CFMI.

In addition, the Police are strongly rumored to be performing as part of the opening segment of the Grammy telecast on Feb. 11 from Los Angeles' Staples Center. At deadline, a Grammy spokesperson had no information on a possible appearance by the group.

Before the Police get busy, Sting has a three-week European tour on tap in support of his lute album, "Songs From the Labryinth." The outing, which finds the artist accompanied by lutenist Edin Karamazov, begins Feb. 18 in Paris and wraps March 12 in Stuttgart, Germany.

On Feb. 20, Deutsche Grammophon will release a CD/DVD companion piece to "Labryinth," dubbed "The Journey And The Labyrinth: The Music Of John Dowland." The project will include a DVD chronicling Sting's fascination with 16th century musician John Dowland and a concert at St. Luke's Church in London.

The audio from that show, which features the Police's "Message in a Bottle" and Robert Johnson's "Hell Hound," is represented on the CD.

I no longer bother for any other reunion now - so many have had their try at coming back over the last few years anyway.
Apart from CVH, the Police has been the group I've most wanted to join together again since they parted in '84.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The Police will reunite to open the 49th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on February 11, The Recording Academy said on Tuesday, fueling speculation that the hit 1980s band is planning a reunion tour.

The five-time Grammy-winning band, led by frontman Sting, with Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers, split up in 1984 and was last seen playing together in 2003 to commemorate their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The band, known for such hits as "Roxanne," "Message in a Bottle" and "Every Breath You Take," has never performed at the annual telecast for the music industry's most prestigious awards that are given by The Recording Academy.

"The Police join a stellar list of past Grammy Awards opening acts, which includes reunions and once-in-a-lifetime performances," said a statement from the academy.

Members of The Police have so far refused to confirm rumors that the band is planning to reunite in 2007 for dates in Britain and the United States, with this year marking the 30th anniversary of the release of "Roxanne."

Last month the band's label A&M Records, which is owned by Universal Music, said in a statement that they would mark the year somehow.

"It is our intention to mark the anniversary by doing something special with the band's catalog of songs. Needless to say, everyone is hopeful the band will support our plans and while early discussions have taken place, nothing has been decided," said the statement.

Other presenters at the Grammy Awards include Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Christina Aguilera, Melissa Etheridge and Stevie Wonder.

The Police' to reform for Grammys ceremony
Tue Jan 30, 7:31 PM ET
Legendary 1980s rock group The Police are to reform to play at the annual Grammy Awards next month, more than two decades after the British trio called it quits, the ceremony organizers said.

The group, who last performed together in public in 2003 when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, are to play at the Los Angeles awards on February 11, according to a statement on frontman Sting's website.

The announcement is sure to add fuel to rumors that Sting, along with drummer Stewart Copeland and guitarist Andy Summers, are planning a comeback tour to mark the 30th anniversary of their forming in 1977.

Best known for smash hits including "Every Breath You Take," "Roxanne," "Don't Stand So Close To Me" and the 1983 album "Synchronicity," The Police won five Grammy Awards in their time, but split in 1984.

Since then, despite reforming for a series of charity gigs in 1986 and their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, the three have been pursuing solo careers, most successfully in the case of bassist and lead singer Sting.

Police fans' websites have recently been alive with rumors that the group is planning a 30-year reunion tour and even a new album. Vancouver newspapers have reported that the group is already rehearsing in the city's Lions Gate Studios.

Rolling Stone magazine has carried reports that the reggae and punk-inspired rockers could be set to announce as many as 80 post-Grammy tour dates.

What's that? A new album too! I read somewhere that there were trucks outside of Lion's Gate Studios unloading Police marked equipment. This has got some legs. If this was some Grammy show spot then they'd get by with just rehearsing in a loft and each guy carrying in their instruments.

olice rehearsing in N. Van?
Lions Gate Studios: Reunion tour rumoured for 'Roxanne' anniversary

Published: Friday, January 26, 2007

Every little thing the Police ever did was magic to the band's fans. Yesterday morning, Rock 101 FM's Bro' Jake Show reported that the '80s rockers were rehearsing in town at North Vancouver's Lions Gate Studios, preparing for a highly-anticipated 30-year reunion tour.
No one was available officially to confirm or deny the report. A receptionist would only allow that "there have been a lot of calls this morning."
Rock 101 received unconfirmed reports Wednesday night that two large semis arrived at the studio and started unloading gear marked with Police logos and those of its former lead singer, Sting. The radio station reported some Sting sightings on the slopes of Whistler yesterday, too.
Rumours of the platinum-selling, platinum-blond act returning to the stage to perform have circulated since March 2003, when the Police last played together at their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.
They heated up again last month when a story in the United Kingdom's Daily News reported that the group would tour this summer in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the release of its first major single, "Roxanne."
On Jan. 3, www.sting.com confirmed the story. On Jan. 14, Sting pretty much admitted to a coming tour when he told the Television Critics Association that all former members were talking.
"We started 30 years ago, so it would be nice to do something to celebrate," Sting is quoted as saying. "We don't quite know what, but we're talking about it."
Talk of a Police presence at the Grammy telecast on Feb. 11 from Los Angeles' Staples Center is also circulating.
Rollingstone.com was awash in submissions that the band would tour in North America, Europe and Asia. A total of 80 dates is being considered.
Talk is that the combo will appear in April at the Coachella Valley Music Festival in California, which has a history of booking retro '80s acts as headliners. Fuelling these reports is that "Roxanne" is supposedly the sign-on password for the early ticket sales, which start tomorrow at 10 a.m.
If the Police are indeed rehearsing in Vancouver, it joins a growing list of superstars using the city as a pre-tour practice and opening-night locale.
U2 and the Rolling Stones used GM Place for rehearsal space in 2006, while Nickelback and Foo Fighters have used Pacific Coliseum. Bob Dylan spent four days over Thanksgiving at the Commodore. Country singer Dierks Bentley recently holed up at Pacific Coliseum before beginning his latest tour. Previous years have seen Janet Jackson, Aerosmith and others take advantage of Vancouver's relative anonymity and world-class technical crews.
"More often that not, tours will start or end here and, honestly, the difference in the exchange rate is still sympathetic for artists," says Ian Low of promoter House Of Blues.

Police Schedule Post-Grammy Press Conference

The Police

February 07, 2007, 2:20 PM ET

Ray Waddell, Nashville
After weeks of speculation, a press conference and "special announcement" featuring rehearsals by the Police is set for Monday (Feb. 12) at the Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood, Calif., the day after the band will reunite for a show-opening performance at the Grammys.

The 11 a.m. PT press conference and special announcement via live satellite broadcast is widely expected to be regarding a 30th anniversary world tour by the seminal rock trio.

The press conference announcement was made by promoter Live Nation. Given that, it is a likely assumption that Arthur Fogel, chairman of global touring for the company, will oversee the tour under LN's TNA International banner. Fogel and TNA have a past history producing Sting's world tours, and last year presented international runs by U2 and Madonna.

Sting Announces `The Police Rehearsals'

Thu Feb 08, 2:27 PM ET

The Police, who are reuniting to perform at the Grammy Awards on Sunday, will celebrate their 30th anniversary at the Whisky A Go Go the following day.

To enter the drawing for a spot at "The Police Rehearsals," fans must be "legacy members" of Sting's official Web site, Sting.com, the 55-year-old singer announced in a posting Wednesday. Twenty lucky winners will be notified Friday.

"After the event, we would like the winners to each submit to us 250 words that describes their experience of the day we can say with some certainty that none of you will be lost for words!" the announcement said.

Sting fanned speculation of a Police reunion and tour when he told the Television Critics Association last month that he and former bandmates Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers were "talking about" doing something to commemorate their anniversary.

The Police, whose hits include "Roxanne" and "Every Breath You Take," will open the Grammys, which will air live on CBS-TV from the Staples Center on Sunday night.

The band broke up in 1984 amid internal conflict. They last performed together in 2003, when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Will Police’s Grammy night reunion last?
Reuniting isn't hard for disbanded bands, it's staying together
The Police, featuring Stewart Copeland, left, and Sting and Andy Summers, right, are reuniting to perform at the Grammy Awards on Sunday.

Updated: 3:28 p.m. ET Feb 9, 2007
As it turns out, breaking up isn’t hard to do. It’s the reuniting that’s the tricky bit. Still it seems that more old acts are getting back together than there are new ones forming. Why? Financial rewards, of course! When they say, “the timing is just right,” it really means the money is just right. “It’s all about the rock & roll” = money. “We want to introduce the band to a new generation of fans” = money. “VH1 approached us” = money, and not even a lot of it.

The Police reunion is different. When the Police open the 49th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday on CBS, they’re doing it for you: The fan. They’re doing it for the sole purpose of making it OK for you to like Sting again. Face it, recording adult contemporary hits in his Tuscan villa, constantly saving rainforests and droning on about his many consecutive hours of tantric sex, somewhere along the line Sting became too pretentious to be cool.

But the long nightmare of your shame and Sting’s mediocrity will come to an end Sunday. Erase the mental picture of his “Dune” codpiece. From now on, there’s only one thing you have to remember: “ROXANNE!”

Tours and money
OK. Maybe warming up to Sting is just a fringe benefit and not really the motivating factor for the band. Sting doesn’t care if you like him, or admit to liking him in public, or not. And he doesn’t need the cash. The man can buy and sell small nations. He’s just that rich.

Who’s not that rich? As rich as Sting anyway: Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland (i.e. the rest of the Police), for whom the post-“Synchronicity” days haven’t been as kind. Sure, Summers released several non-epic solo albums and tried his hand at film scores (remember the smooth sounds of “Weekend at Bernie’s?”). Copeland did the soundtrack thing, too, and had very brief success, with Summers in the band Animal Logic. With résumés like that, it’s doubtful that either of them would turn down a big payday.

Where’s all the dough going to come from? The tour, which will no doubt follow the momentous Grammy reunion. And in a world where it costs $300 to see Madonna, tickets are not going to be cheap. See, nothing’s free. You’ll have to pay for the ability to like Sting again, and pay through the nose. Will it be worth it? Will they even stay together long enough to make it to your town?

Here’s the thing about relationships, and this is as true for lovers as it is for that more intense of unions — band mates. If it didn’t work out the first time around, odds are it ain’t gonna work on the next try. And those who don’t remember history are destined to repeat it.

History shows
Outside of death, all bands break up for the same reason: artistic differences. That’s code speak for “clash of the enormous egos.” That’s why reunions hardly ever stick. Fortune and fame may wane, but egos are forever. And as history shows, awards shows and benefit concert appearances are no guarantee.

Look at the mess that is Van Halen. The band was at the top of its game in the 1980s. But singer David Lee Roth thought genius guitarist Eddie Van Halen had too many side projects. Eddie thought Dave was too much of a clown. So it’s out with Dave and in with Sammy Hagar, and it ends much the same. The band tests the waters again with Dave and they can’t even make it through the 1996 MTV Video Music Award. So, it’s back with Sammy for, like, a minute. Now the plan is a 40-date amphitheater tour with Dave for Summer 2007. Let’s just see if they even make it through the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in March.

Then there’s the dream reunion that’s guaranteed to never take place. When Pink Floyd members parted ways in 1985 following a spate of the dreaded “solo pursuits.” Roger Waters said the band was played out, and even sued the remaining members to get them to drop the name. The David Gilmour-led Floyd went on to succeed but fans constantly clamored for an old-school reunion. Waters joined Floyd for the June 2005 Live 8 concert in London. Fans crossed their fingers for a following tour. The band members were offered wads of cash. It hasn’t happened yet.

Still there’s hope. Take, for example, one of the most ego-charged bands ever: The Pixies. After the usual tensions between members tore them apart, leader Frank Black spent years denying rumors of a reunion. But in 2003, it seemed the people in hell were drinking ice cold H20. The Pixies launched an international tour than ran through 2004, and continued to make appearances at huge musical festivals such as Lollapalooza and the Newport Folk Festival throughout 2005. And, wonder upon wonders, the Pixies started recording a new LP in January 2007.

So maybe it will work, and the Police tour will last long enough to make it to your town. The band did managed two reunion performances in the past without tearing out what’s left of their hair. The Police played at Sting’s 1992 wedding to Trudie Styler, and again made it work for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2003.

But if this whole Police thing does fall apart, take heart. This summer, Genesis hits the road for a massive 12-country tour! (Though don’t count on original singer Peter Gabriel to show up).

New York-based writer Helen A.S. Popkin is just glad Flock of Seagulls is still making it work.

02.12.07 The Police announce world-wide concert tour and new Fan Club

The Police Tour Fan Club ticket holds for the tour are strong in terms of both quantity and quality and we hope that as many fan club members as possible get seats to the show they would like to attend. Although shows in large metropolitan areas (in particular the New York shows at Madison Square Garden) always tend to be very popular and are expected to sell out very quickly.

Special guest Fiction Plane will join The Police for the North American portion of the tour. Known for their high-energy live shows, this dynamic rock trio will be releasing their 2nd full length album in May. Fiction Plane are: Joe Sumner (Bass); Seton Daunt (Guitar); Pete Wilhoit (Drums). Additional support artists will be announced in the coming weeks.

A portion of the proceeds from this tour will be donated to WaterAid, an international NGO founded in 1981 and dedicated to reducing poverty by improving access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene education. They are from 50 to 200. Pretty reasonable.....wait for the VH ticket prices. Without Mikes backups and given the old age burnout factor , Id would rather spend 200 bucks on the Police than VH.I got a feeling this (vh tour) will be underwhelming.

The Police quickly sell out stadium shows By Ray Waddell
Tue Feb 27, 2:07 AM ET

NASHVILLE (Billboard) - The Police reunion tour is fast becoming the hottest concert ticket of the year.

The rock trio sold out shows in Denver, Seattle and Oakland over the weekend, and Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. and Los Angeles' Dodger Stadium Monday.

On Saturday, Pepsi Center in Denver sold out, with a second show added (June 9-10); a second show has also been added to the Key Arena stop in Seattle (June 6-7).

McAfee Stadium in Oakland sold out Sunday at 48,000 tickets. Giants Stadium sold out Monday at 56,000 tickets, as did Dodger Stadium at 52,000.

A second Montreal show went on sale Monday and is expected to sell out quickly (July 25-26).

The group's first tour in more than two decades begins May 28 in Vancouver. Also newly confirmed is the anchor date for the second leg of the outing, November 8 in Toronto, joining a previously announced July 22-23 stand in the city.

The Police is my favorite band besides VH. I get tix tomorrow, on-line presale for Dallas. Son of a ... Ya know, it's funny because you have on one of the spectrum the Police and on the other Van Halen. It almost, to me anyway seems like the Police fellas have been keeping up their chops tight as fuck over the years and as a result the reunion isn't that huge of a challenge to get off the ground when lift off is upon. Then with VH, Dave had a couple down years but he really never quick giggin' and singin' all together. Not tot say that Ed and co. did but they defiintley had periods of inactivity and Ed's retardedness surely didn't help this band get the show on the road. Wolfie might be a blessing to this band. Give EVH the motherfucking kick in the ass he needs son....wait I was talking 'bout the PoPo befo'. Shit, never type and hit the bottle. What can I say.(momentary chillapse for the bong)

Andy Summer is incredible. The tones, the riffs that you need bigass spidery links to hit. What a strummer. I am so fucking excited about seeing the Police. Godamn! I said Godamn! Mmhhmm. To hear Bring On The Night live by the og crew is gonna start my summer off right. I only hope I can end it with at least havin' VH/DLR tix in hand. Then duece double O seven summertime will be a slamdunk smackbottom kick in the pants good time!

This is going to be the biggest tour in history. The Stones have the record but they did not play as many shows or stadiums their last tour. Also The Police are charging the same prices for stadiums as arenas. The Stones had cheaper seats for the stadiums. The high price Stones tickets were for the front of the stage. The Police are charging top price for ANYWHERE near the stage. That being said, I have purchased 6 tickets already, with many more to follow.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - The Police kicked off its reunion tour before a sold-out crowd of 20,000 — not bad for a group playing its first stadium in more than 20 years.

Fans took to their feet and sang along as Monday's night's show opened with "Message in a Bottle," the band's 1979 smash hit.

The trio of singer-bassist Sting, guitarist Andy Summers and drummer Stewart Copeland followed that up with a six-minute rendition of 1982's "Synchronicity."

From hit to hit, the fans at General Motors Place swayed to the music, offering up thunderous applause.

The Police broke up in 1984 at the height of its success. Sting, 55, Summers, 64, and Copeland, 54, have since pursued individual careers.

Sting's son started off the evening. Joe Sumner, the lead vocalist and bassist for Fiction Plane, raced onto the stage sounding a lot like his father, otherwise known as Gordon Sumner.

Some fans were in for a nostalgic night while others weren't even born during the band's heyday.

"I think it's good that all these bands are getting back together so that our kids can see them," said Mark Beason, who attended the show with his daughter Alanna Beason, 18, of Whidbey Island, Wash.

The Police are hoping to rival recent outings by the Rolling Stones and U2 and will join a crowded reunion lineup this summer that includes Genesis, Van Halen and the Eagles.

The Police have scheduled 21 gigs in the United States and Canada, including stops in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Seattle, New Orleans and New York.

The trio will play their second sold-out show in Vancouver on Wednesday before heading to Edmonton and later hitting Montreal and Toronto. There also was a fan-club-only show Sunday.

The tour will cover cities in North and South America, Europe and Australia by the time it wraps in early 2008.

Still think it was a different angle that warranted it's own thread, and I WAS aware that this one already existed, but whatever...

Police Drummer Blasts Reunion Concert
By Associated Press

NEW YORK - The crowds have been ecstatic, but Police drummer Stewart Copeland has been anything but impressed so far by the band's reunion concerts.

Copeland trashed Wednesday's concert in Vancouver, British Columbia, in a posting on his Web site the morning after. "This is ... lame. We are the mighty Police and we are totally at sea."

His recollection of events _ or, rather, band bloopers _ is both scathing and comical. For one thing, Copeland noted, he failed to strike a gong at the right time, ruining "the big pompous opening to the show."

The rock trio of Copeland, singer-bassist Sting and guitarist Andy Summers flubbed their performance of the song "Message in a Bottle," said Copeland, who didn't hear Summers' opening guitar riff. Sting then missed his cue from Copeland _ "so we are half a bar out of sync with each other. Andy is in Idaho," he wrote.

That misfortune extended into the second song, "Synchronicity II." They couldn't "get on the good foot," said Copeland, before going on to criticize Sting's footwork during the set.

"The mighty Sting momentarily looks like a petulant pansy instead of the god of rock," he wrote.

The disorder continued "for song after song." But afterward, he said, they fell "into each other's arms laughing hysterically."

"It usually takes about four or five shows in a tour before you get to the disaster gig. But we're The Police so we are a little ahead of schedule," he said.

Their next show will be Saturday in the Canadian city of Edmonton. The tour will take the Police through North and South America, Europe and Australia by the time it wraps in early 2008.

No worries, PHOENIX.

I was in a pissy frame of mind when I wrote that.

I knew very well about this stickied thread, but thought the "angle" would have legs as it's own thread.

Exactly.

That was the first thing that came to my mind when I read the headline.

I hadn't even started the article when thoughts of a "Van Halen-esque" tour implosion started dancing through my head.

But it's a strange little piece. It starts off like there's trouble brewing, but then takes a turn for the more "comedic" near the end.

Saw them last night at Dodger Stadium with the Foo Fighters opening. The sound, show, audience participation, everything was terrific. Definitely got my moneys worth. There were no surprises. I knew the setlist going in. I've heard enough live versions to know when Sting goes "Yo Yo Ya" and then the crowd chants with him. Still awesome though. And the women there....DAMN!

To be honest, I expected better from FF. Maybe they didn't have the premium sound equip since they were not the main act. Maybe it was a bit early in the evening for them to be at their peak, or maybe it was just an off night. They were ok, just not great.

Here is the set list from the tour. I found it from the Canada show reviews, and they stuck to it exactly at Dodger Stadium. Pretty solid list I'd have to say.

“Message in a Bottle”
“Synchronicity II”
“Don’t Stand So Close to Me”
”When the World Is Running Down, You Make the Best of What’s Still Around”
“Spirits in the Material World”
“Driven to Tears”
“Walking on the Moon”
“Truth Hits Everybody”
“Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic”
“Wrapped Around Your Finger”
“The Bed’s Too Big Without You”
“Murder by Numbers”
“De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da”
“Invisible Sun”
“Walking in Your Footsteps”
“Can’t Stand Losing You”
“Roxanne”
“King of Pain”
“So Lonely”
“Every Breath You Take”
“Next to You”

At $12 per beer, can't really afford much more than that. My favorite song of the night was Truth Hits Everybody. Not my fav Police song by far, but the energy they had when they played it was cool.

So Lonely was quite good as well. Fuck it! The whole show was awesome. If anyone is on the fence about going, GO! You won't be disappointed.

Now I know why the Police are a great band.

- No extra musicians

- No background vocals

- No ridiculous stage lighting

Just three really great musicians.

They had a b-side off of the Synchronicity albulm called I Burn. This is a great song. Did they play this song. I heard they played Murder by Numbers.

Sounds pretty good.

Cool that it was only the three of them onstage, as opposed going out there with a bunch of backups singers, a second guitarist and the like.

I thought they did, but after going through the recordings I made I realized they skipped it. It wasn't missed though. They played 2 solid hours with no real talking in between songs. Just hammered out the hits.

Plus, no new music to throw in the mix. Just classics.

This is the only thought that gets me through the day. Honestly I think in 30 years all of these non talent "musicians" (e.g. pussycat dolls, nelly furtado, shakira) will have lost the only thing going for them...which is their looks. We live in a world where the girls with the best bodies get the most popularity. What we're missing is real artists like Janis Joplin, and the Rolling Stones (well, we still have them, but I'm just makign the point that they're not pretty) these are the acts with real music, not this electronic crap pumped through the airwaves that claims to be music. In 30 years all that shit will be gone, but the real innovative musicians will still be around.

Sorry, that was a bit of a rant, but new "music" gets me so mad sometimes.

That's because most new music is shit, unfortunately.

The Police kick ass though. I was listening to the LA show today and they sound pretty good still.

Summers is underrated. And Copeland is rated just about right. He's the man. He discovered Sting.

They do. It's on the boot I'm just listening, recorded in Vancouver on 05/28/07. Not really the peak of the gig, though.

Mostly the three of them sound like they WANT to play, many tracks last way longer than during the Synchronicity Tour for instance. It's not even a wonder if they tend to slow down many a tempo, safe on stuff like "When the world is runnin' down".
In fact, it all sounds like it's damn worth seeing them.

Omar Hakim... Wasn't he in Chic with the awesome B. Edwards and the legendary Nile Rodgers?

Damn, no wonder why Sting needs Somebody on drums, because after Stu Copeland...

Copeland's playing hasn't suffered years, on the contrary, though he was like startled how he reacted when playing a couple of Police songs over a year ago with that band I don't remember the name of, and complained about the painful reaction of his muscles.
Anyway, he's been the one who most wanted the Police back during all those years. Good on him for never changing his mind.

Agreed...great show. "Wrapped Around Your Finger" was great with Copeland getting up and down from his kit for the rest of the percussion.

Sting still has the voice, when he wants to get up in that range. But I do think they dropped some stuff an octave or two to compensate for aging vocal cords.
