If you really turn up the track just before the song kicks in you can hear really heavy rain. Was this an affect aded in later or was that actually there because it was a really bad day outside the studio. Obviously it was left in on purpose but was it put there on purpose is what I'm asking?

I can't answer your question, but as far as the slide solo, I once read an Eddie interview, and that particular solo being mentioned. Ed said he'd used "the nearest lighter" or something...

As for the hard rain, maybe it was an intended effect, considering it's a sailor song. :)

I had heard that the rain was real, ambient sound coming from outside the studio.

They decided to leave it in because they liked the sound.

I know there's more to the story than that, so perhaps someone else could fill in the gaps.

Yeah, I'm with Jerome and Loons on this one ... "save the women and children first" refers to a sinking ship ... great thread though, a lil' somethin' different ...

It catches good the mood of the song.

Roth said they opened the studio doors on a rainy night for a little atmosphere. I't s real. Do you know which female singer guests one line on the song?

Great thread.

I'd put money on a studio effect, but a good one...

Dave said that WACF was designed to sound like it was recorded out at the end of a pier.

The rain had to be a studio effect. No?

Roth says rain was real but he has been known to spin a few yarns in his day... No notes on WACF as to where it was recorded.

It's Gonna Take A Lotta Drugs
I think this really is Dave on vox. Anyone?

Dave said in his book that they opened the doors to let the smoke and stench out. Fresh air. They left it in. They recorded their albums live back then. In that track, and several others, you can hear dave laugh. There is a mistake in Everbody wants some where Dave starts to say I like....I like the way the lines run up the back of her stalkings. They left it in. They captured the magic and didn't try to alter anything.
