Good question. Excellent team and their live shows even after over thirty years together are top-notch. Tiki took me to see them two years ago and I was really surprised at how great that show was. Daryl Hall is an amazing frontman.

Maybe the RRHoF is just waiting for Oates to grow back that 'stache. He's one of the few men in the world that desperately needs facial hair.

They will eventually. I only came to appreciate them long after their heyday. Once I was older and not worried about what others thought of my musical tastes, I listened to them and realized they had a ton of very good pop-rock songs.

They should be in for sure. I always did dig their tunes and took a lot of ribbing from my hard rock friends for it. I never cared what people thought though, thats just how I roll.

Actually many of my fellow musicians I have worked with appreciate their songwriting skills. Even if some won't admit it, they have made one hell of an impact on music.

Shit, they have scored thirty-four hit singles. :cato: "thirty-four" :cato: Eight of them went to #1, plus seven RIAA platinum albums along with six RIAA gold albums.
Me thinks that they qualify pretty damn well:cool:

Hell yes.

If he turned up without that "cockduster", noone would know who he was.

Maybe they`ll be inducted into the RSHoF (Rock and SOUL Hall of Fame).

..."it was a psychically freeing moment. I'm sure it didn't mean anything to anyone else, but it was very important to me." - John Oates on shaving the 'stache.

Personally, I really don't want to hear about any of his "freeing moments."

But I am looking forward to seeing another one of their shows. They were fantastic! At first I felt weird going to see them, but I saw a LOT of other metal fans at that show. Now I will go see them anytime they are close enough.

The amazing thing about Hall & Oates was that there was A LOT of cool shit going on musically, if you really took the moment to listen to it. Some of the basslines going on were really cool...

Daryl Hall probably knows more about R&B, for a white man, than any other white man in existance...

You are not kidding!
Tom "T-Bone" Wolk is one hell of a bass player. He has also worked with Carly Simon, Elvis Costello, Squeeze, and Billy Joel among others.
Take it from this bassist, After seeing him play live, this man knows his shit.:)

I haven't had the pleasure of seeing him live, but I'd believe it based on the studio output...

How long you been playing for?

Around 20 plus years.
Damn, has it been that long.:p
You play?

Yep, T-bone has got the groove covered well. He holds back a little bit on the records but the man really cuts loose live.

If you ever get the chance to see them,Ya should. I got Sparkie to go and that was a task in its self, Hall & oates are (were) way off her musical radar. Man, by the time we got home she was in disbelief over how good they sounded. Daryl is over sixty years old and his voice is sounding better than ever. Unbelievable talent.

Well, I used to; I started about '93...ish...even did pretty good for a while, but I basically gave it up to play Dad.

Gotta say I do miss it at times.

I hear ya, I'm doing the dad thing myself. It does make playin a little harder to make time for. I also know what you mean about missing it as I can't quite bring myself to put it down for good. I tried but its in the skin now, much like an itch that you can't stop scratchin:D It is hard to make time for it these days though.

You should pick it up again at least as a hobbie. Do like I have and get the kid in on the fun. I got my daughter a nice Yamaha DGX-205 Portable Grand keyboard and at eight years old she is learning to play right along with dad. It makes for some great family fun. Just don't throw the kid on stage (ala Wolfie) till good and ready ;)

I wandered off somewhere........O yeah. No matter what kind of music you like people, give Hall and Oates a closer listen next time you hear em because skillwise they kick ass:D
sorry, I just love talkin about music with fellow musicians. May you play once again dude.;)

I'm always thinking about it. The longer I'm out, the harder it is to get back in...cost, time, hell at this point I'd probably have to relearn most of what I used to know second-nature...lol...

Well, we'll see, maybe someday. Kids are getting older now, so anything's possible.

1. They deserve their success. They moved good product to the pop demographic.

2. I hate their fucking guts. Fucking lame pop-music pussies.

Sure they are worthy of whatever kudos they get, but they were always to limp-wristed for me.

Now ThreeSuckCock probably jacks off to them almost as much as he does to Spammy Gaygar.

True, they aren't for everyone, but there are some pretty complex arrangements going on musically and vocally. Especially for pop music. Melody means at lot to these guys. Well crafted music, pop or not. Their 70's output was their best. Much different than the 80's stuff they are usually remembered for. More soul, less synth.

I used to feel exactly the same way. Then Tiki subjected me to his evil ways. Now I really like them, especially after seeing them. They're grate on those rare occasions I'm not in a metal mood. That said, they can still take about half of their catalog and shove it.

70's Hall & Oates was OK. Not up there with Zeppelin, The Sex Pistols, or Bon's Ac/Dc, but for a radio-friendly pop band, they were one of the better ones of that decade.

Didn't care much for the later stuff though. "ManEater" and that sort of shit.

Hadn't noticed all of the other responses in this thread...

I'm certainly glad Full Bug managed to finally out me, though. Yes, folks, it's been a long time in the making, but I'm forced to admit that, yes, listening to certain types of music CAN and DOES make you gay.

So, Full Bug, to you I tip my hat. Congratulations on your brilliant detective work and outstanding logical deduction. Yes, Hall & Oates has made me gay. Oh so gay. So gay I can't hardly stand myself anymore.

And yes, the fact that Sarge doesn't post at his own website changes the content of EACH and EVERY SINGLE POST on this site directly. Yes, every poster on this site, from the top ten to the bottom half of the trolls, suffers because Sarge doesn't post every day and personally manage the content and flow of each and every person, thread and forum here. Again, Full Bug, your powers of deduction boggle the mind.

You know, I don't even know why I bother with life, being gay and not having Sarge here to elevate the quality of threads/posts himself on a day to day basis. Please excuse me while I go kill myself in shame.

It's been a hoot!

Most of thier stuff is VERY lightweight in terms of production,
but make no mistake, these guys are amazing songwriters,
and singers...

This says it all, right here:
YouTube - Eddie Kendricks and David Ruffin (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2swurbxq50)
YouTube - HALL & OATES - EVERYTIME YOU GO AWAY ( live ) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NR54rkz1sek)

When you've got the only voices of the Temptations that ever mattered
not only singing with you, but backing you on YOUR songs too...
that says a lot to me, I tell ya...

I used to feel exactly the same way. Then Tiki subjected me to his evil ways. Now I really like them, especially after seeing them. They're grate on those rare occasions I'm not in a metal mood. That said, they can still take about half of their catalog and shove it.

you were talkin' about hall and oates, right?:hee:

Like Laura Branigan.

necroposting but,

You have to be shitting me.

Branigan was the poster child for the cookie cutter disco era..

...hell, not even that, she wasn't even that well known except for the half-assed gloria..

I'd argue that someone like Kenny f-ing loggins is more influential and versitale.

Perhaps this H&O thread would have been a better place to post this

Hmmm....

Hall and Oates are Ghey...
As in Ghey I mean Homosexual...

Having said that, lots of gheys are in the HOF....

Off the top of my head I can only think of "Maneater" (Ghey)
and "Your Kiss" (Ghey)

Im not sure any other H&O ditties made it to our shores ?
Kinda like Jimmy Buffet, Sammy Hagar and The Dave Matthews Band..

Yes I know, we are Blessed !
