You knew Martin Scorcese was gonna win, when the triumvariate Elder Statesmen of the "Blockbuster Movie" were introduced as presenters for the Best Director Award...Spielberg, Lucas & Coppola.

If any director truly deserves to have an Oscar, it is him. His absence up til now has been criminal....

Oh and The Departed got Best Picture.

Jodie Foster looked fucking hot....in fact, all the chicks did....

Forest Whitaker got Best Actor for Last King Of Scotland....and goddammit...it is about fucking time he was recognized....just look at a filmography of all the shit he has done in the past 25 years!

Best Supporting Actress went to Jennifer Hudson, for her role in "Dreamgirls"...andf the three girls who starred in that film did a lengthy musical number where they TORE IT UP!!!!
Damn...they kicked more ass than TEN MOTHERFUCKERS!

*ahem*

Al Gore won Best Documentary for "An Inconvenient Truth"

They gave a Lifetime Achievement Award to the composer of the Clint Eastwood Spaghetti Westerns, Ennio Morricone, who has scored over 400 films.

During the segment remembering those who died in the past year, I was surprised to see a familiar name: Mako

The Wizard in Condum Duh Bahbarian, and numerous other roles in film and Television for the past 40 years.....

I just got back from the hospital where I was getting my sides fixed after them splitting with laughter watching Ellen Degenerate. Women comedians are just so good in general. Ellen is incredibly talented being able to take material you might expect from the keynote speech of a state Spoon Manufacturers Convention and use it at the Oscars.

It was wonderful to be preached to by the extremely knowledgable people of the Academy on complex eco climate systems which are often too difficult for many mere scientists to fully understand. Plus sceintists don't look as good in $10k frocks. Buy a Prius and save the planet!

It was great to see Tipper Gore again, I'm so glad she didn't die in the late 80s. Al Gore was of course extremely self efacing and isn't he looking so slim these days?

There was a special award for a studio head because she had done some work for charity. The thing that you need to remember about people in the movie industry is that almost all of them do wonderful things for their community but because of their modesty and keeping their feet on the ground you never hear about it, ever.

I wish they could have longer acceptance speeches though. It's so frustrating when the winners don't have time to personally thank their nannies PR firm.

The best thing though was that yet again the Academy was very conscious of its role as representing an industry which on the whole churns out braindead risk adverse entertainment manufactured by accountants based on sales demograhics.

It would be so easy to get carried away on a tide of pompous, vacous self important, self congratulary bullshit...

Cheers!

:gulp:

Speaking of anonymous charity...I read a story about how a friend of Frank Sinatra's saw him walking around out in the tables and chairs of the casino venue in Vegas he had been performing at. It was just after one of his performances, and the audience was all gone.

The friend went up to him and said "What are ya doing?"

Then he saw Frank had a stack of 100-dollar bills in his hands, and was tossing them under the tables.

Frank said he wanted to surprise the cleaning crew.

How fucking cool is that?
