Alright, certainly not a pioneer like EVH, but holy shit! Heard "Bark at the Moon" today on the radio and remembered how much I loved that fucking song. Totally forgot about Jake E. Lee even though I loved him in my eighties guitar slinging days. So, downloaded it and went to youtube to see what they had. Oh my God!

Alright, if you're interested, start with him playing it live:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSNuIzw9VfU

Then check this fucking dude recording a close up of how to play:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9WDv53dQj4

I hope the links work. They do for me, but I may be making a simple mistake.

But if not, do a search for Jake e lee on youtube. The "Real guitar hero" link is the one with the dude showing how to play

Makes me want to give up guitar... Not really, but did I mention holy fucking shit!!!??? :D

Clear props to Hendrix with his movements. I wonder if anyone in the audience caught it...

I certainly wouldn't have back when I was a snot nosed teen

Amazing watching it now.

John, I started a Jake E Lee thread about three weeks ago which is full of cool Jake vids from youtube.

It's in House of Music, check it out...

Jake E. Lee was a fucking bad-ass guitar player!

One of the greats for sure.

After his Badlands thing (1989??), not sure what happened to him.

He's released tow solo records: one instrumental Zappa-esque one "Fine Pink Mist" and another of blues playing, the title of which I forget entirely...

Jake rocks. You could saw off his left pinkie finger and he'd still play the same.;)

Fuck dude, just got a chance to watch that.

My friggin' God! Thanks for the post.

I remember being so stoked by Jake in the eighties but we didn't have youtube back then, heh? Amazing getting to see these videos. Absolutely amazing.

And yes I agree with the statement that Jake clearly outshines and outplays pretty much every other guitarist of the era. I mean, I know Ozzy has alot to do with this, but there are very few guitarists of the "hair band" era that people don't make fun of when it's played on the radio. And yes, there are lots of guitarists from the time that I loved then, and kinda chuckle at now.

Even if I like their music a bit. :)

Just have to say again, Jake rocks. His solo collection is under rated. His newest cover cd is super great.

Jake can play, but the material he played on was among Ozzy's weakest...

He was shit-hot out of the starting gate on Bark At The Moon, but the Ultimate Sin was abysmal.

Our singer has a friend who has promised to tape our next gig on video,

and Bark at the Moon

happens to be on our set list.

But, mind you,

I play my own solo on it!

What's up Elvis! Sorry I haven't said hi earlier, I suppose you know by now I'm hit or miss lately...

Yeah, I suppose lots of dudes can play Jake's stuff, but do they play it well? Most the times, I find they can "technically" pull it off but their timing and feel suck. Lots of shredders are somewhat robotic and sterile when playing. I ain't saying Kentucky is, hell he may be the next big thing in guitar... But it's one thing to clone, and another thing to create.

Hey man, I´ll be 40 in a few days. If I ever had any chance of becoming "the next big thing in guitar",

I missed it years, if not decades ago.

No, it just shows your stupidity.

I'm not sure which makes you look more stupid: your complete disregard of the grammar of the English language, or capitalizing every word you time. You seem to scream when you write, but I want you to know that nobody here will ever care about what you have on your mind.

Been cranking the first Badlands recrod today - Jesus it was good, I loved Ray Gillan's voice...
