New Star Trek Movie - Casting Rumors

OK, so I rumor I've been hearing is that the next Star Trek movie is going to be a re-cast prequel to the original series, with Kirk, Spock and McCoy as initiates in the Starfleet Academy...no other real premise as of yet, but have you heard the casting rumors?

Here's your Mr. Spock...one Mr. Adrian Brody...



Dr. McCoy? Good 'ole Bones? How about Gary Sinise?



But WHO could do James Kirk justice? Well...try Matt Damon on for size...



My guess? It's either EXCEPTIONALLY brilliant...or EXCEPTIONALLY stupid...

I think, for it to work, they shouldn't market it as a "prequel", per se...that would just invite comparisons to Shatner, Nimoy and Kelly...their best bet is to follow the blueprint laid out by "Casino Royale" - make it a fresh start, relaunch the entire franchise with new players in the established roles - make it look pretty, put the best foot forward in regards to the technology available for special effects, but not to over-rely on computers to do so - make the characters count for something, give some background, and build it all from the ground up.

Star Trek's been in DESPERATE need of a kick in the ass for years - the Scott Bakula/Enterprise thing was a good idea on paper, and might have worked with some better scripts and better execution, but it was at least a step in the right direction. IF they do indeed have Damon, Brody and Sinise nailed down for the roles (and frankly, I can think of NOBODY better than Gary Sinise for Dr. McCoy), that's a pretty powerful acting base to build a newly-revisioned classic Star Trek franchise off of.

It could well work out to be very interesting.

Allison Mack might make for a decent Janice Rand...some source say she (Rand) lied about her age to get enlisted, anyway...

I think they have to bring in some completely fresh faces for this one. Some young, amazing finds that will completely blow us all away with their talent for portraying Spock, Kirk, and McCoy. Anything less and the fanbase will hate it with a passion. If they fuck this movie up it'll be as bad as the Van Halen situation lol.

If you want Gary Sinise as McCoy....which is a good choice...why not use David Caruso as Kirk and William Petterson as Spock.






Go with a CSI theme....would be a good Sunday night movie.

Well, as it stands, the leading industry rumors have been going with Damon, Sinise and Brody only...McAvoy has officially expressed interest in Scotty as well...outside of that, everything's pure speculation...

I don`t think this is a good idea at all.

The original cast defined those roles and anyone who plays them will be compared to, dare I say it, icons.

It`s like recasting The A Team, Al Bundy, Mork or Dirty Harry.

Noone else should ever play Kirk, Spock, McCoy or Scotty.
