View Full Version : Music for YOUR funeral

We`re all going to die whether we like it or not, so all of us being big music fans we`ll probably want a song played at our funerals.

ONE song.

Please don`t list a multitude of songs, ONE SONG ONLY.

Whether it`s your favourite song ever, one that says something about your lifestyle or even just one you`d get a kick out of knowing that a bunch of mourners have to sit through it.

This idea might sound a bit morbid but at my Dad`s funeral we played his favourite song "Just a gigolo" (the only version we had was the DLR version) at the end and it lifted the whole occasion.

My choice?

William Shatner`s version of "Mr Tambourine Man".

I love Dylan`s lyrics and Shatner does it like noone else.

It would blow their minds.

"Life goes on without me" - that's my favourite line from my favourite song, but I don't think my family will allow to play this tune at my funeral. :D

Let's see...I might write a song called "I'm Glad I'm Dead and I Didn't Like Any of You Anyway".

Maybe all of Tales from Topographic Oceans?

Actually I might go for "Break on Through (To The Other Side)", just for laughs.

Place my body on a ship
And burn it in the sea
Let my spirit rise
Valkyries carry me
Take me to Valhalla
Where my brothers wait for me
Fire burning to the sky
My spirit will never die!!!

Beautiful... just beautiful...

Cheers! :bottle:

I thought this one out a long time ago. It'll be..............

The song "Midwestern Nights Dream" from the Pat Metheny album 'Bright Size Life'.... with Jaco Pastorius on bass.

The mood of that song is perfectly peaceful........... When I pass on,
that's the sound I wanna go out with.
Beautiful music....... to be played for the beautiful people that brightened my time here on Earth.

Yeah, I know...

But a few years ago, I went to my uncle's funeral. He was 38 and like my older brother. Everybody there was crying and miserable and he would have HATED that. He had a great sense of humor. I told my wife then that I do not want my funeral to be like that. I want to know people would laugh..

Just a personal thing...

I'd want to make people miserable, but then quickly jolt them with something unexpected that would make them laugh (thats how I'm told I am in life, anyways)

I made a paper where I made clear what happens afther my death...if an accident happens they are not allowed to keep the machines running, if it's only to keep a dead body alive and all this shit...

one paragraph says the song that has to be played at the funeral is "JUST A GIGOLO" by david lee roth...

I personally want Eagles Fly. It's a tender, touching ballad, and you know, it just means so much and cuts through all the jive to get behind the heart of the matter, to say what's REALLY important, and I'd like to be remembered by that! Either that or give to live...maybe...man it's hard to decide! But maybe 2 sides of love, because that really says a lot too, and I'd like my partner to hear it before I'm put in the ground, because it'll show how hard I work, you know?

I'd like a song from my favorite movie "The Wizard of Oz"...

"wake up sleepy head
rub your eyes, get out of bed
wake up, the wicked witch is dead

she's gone where the goblins go....
below, below, below" :D

But seriously...I would love to have Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Queer, yes, I know. :D

I wouldn't even go with a death themed tune....

I think I'd like to have them play Bad to the Bone by George Thorogood. I just think it would be cool to have that played. Maybe a big screen overhead with Al Bundy doing cool shit!
