When I heard this was coming out I thought it would be an essential purchase, "Whitesnake" or "1987" is without doubt one of THE definitive albums of 1980`s rock.

However, I felt pretty let down when I read the tracklisting. There are NO previously unreleased demos or alternate versions included and no "1987" vintage live performances.

This is disappointing as I have various bootlegs including an officially recorded live show from Tokyo in 1988 and demos from the album sessions that I would have enjoyed in better quality.

Here it is:

CD:

01 Still Of The Night
02 Bad Boys
03 Give Me All Your Love
04 Looking For Love
05 Crying In The Rain
06 Is This Love
07 Straight For The Heart
08 Don`t Turn Away
09 Children Of The Night
10 Here I Go Again `87
11 You`re Gonna Break My Heart Again
12 Still Of The Night (Live)*
13 Here I Go Again (Live)*
14 Is This Love (Live)*
15 Give Me All Your Love (Live)*

*Live tracks from "Live In The Shadow Of The Blues"

DVD:

01 Still Of The Night
02 Here I Go Again `87
03 Is This Love
04 Give Me All Your Love
05 Give Me All Your Love*
06 Is This Love*
07 Here I Go Again*
08 Still Of The Night*

*Taken from "Live...In The Still Of The Night"

The only reason for buying this is to get the promo videos that set MTV on fire back in the day or maybe some of you will want it because it is the UK track listing rather than the US version.

Shite.

I'll probably still pick it up.

Would rather have seen a full-length concert dvd put out with the touring lineup of Campbell, Sarzo, Aldridge, Adrian V and Coverversion, but such is life.

I've got everything that is on this release...so, why bother?

This IS a letdown.

I have a question regarding the recording of the "Whitesnake" album.... Why exactly did Coverdale fire Neil Murray, Ansley Dunbar & John Sykes??? That lineup had a lot of energy and Sykes had a very unique sound, he is still a VERY underrated guitar player.

Dunbar: Never a band member, filled in on a session basis after Cozy Powell left.

Sykes: Fell out with Coverdale and had left the band before the album was even finished.

Murray: Finished his parts in 1986 then went back to the UK and read in a magazine months later that he had been replaced by Rudy Sarzo, who Coverdale had his eye on when Whitesnake supported Quiet Riot in `84. Speculation says he wasn`t good looking enough for the "1987" touring line up and promo videos.

I agreed with that statement until recently.

I now think "1987" was a bloody good album for what it was, although I still can't get into "Slip of the Tounge".

Most people know nothing aboot Whitesnake except the permed hair/shoulder pads/Bon Jovi period, which is a shame. One thing I hate is people judging bands by their most commercially successful stuff.

That's how you get comments like

Yes, Adrian Vandenberg....

I always liked "Burning Heart", '83-ish... Maybe one of the 1st power rock ballads ??

I think Coverdale was probably a controlling prick ($$) and guys (Sykes, Murray, Powell) with any balls and self respect said "fuck it". They probably realized werent gonna get a fair share. Fuckin Sarzo, he's made a career off sliding into someones spot after all the work is done. Hasnt written a fuckin lick in his life....whatta whore.

Whitesnake was an OK band, I guess, but their singer tried too hard to sound like Sammy Hagar and that made it good, but kinda bad at the same time, too.

this is one cd that needed a remaster. the original sounds harsh. SLide It In original sounds great. I could never understand why the S/T sounded so terrible.

but..... why include current live footage on a 20th ann instead of original old live stuff from the same time ? makes no sense why artists do this. I wont be buying this unless I hear the remaster is a huge improvement and not loud like most of todays remasters.

what a let down.

[/B] Thats easy, Steve Vai :D . He did his tracks in his basement studio! The guy has horrible tone, and pairing his goofy ass playing with Coverdale makes about as much sense as putting Frank Zappa in Led Zeppelin. Bad move there.

Sorry Dave, but Plant had it down in 1969 you fag.

Not long ago, a friend let me check out a recent DVD he had bought. After all these years I didn't expect much. I gotta say, I was surprised to find that the guys still sound great.
If David Coverdale or, as some would wisecrack "Cunterdale or Coverversion:rolleyes: " can still belt'em out like that at his age then rock on old dude.:killer:
Thats more than can be said about a certain other couple of "influential" old farts these days.
That is all............................

Hi guys,
I am living in France and i do love Coverdale:he is a great human being:he is always positive with people (he is never criticize his formers bandmates:he said in interviews that he never got along with John sykes) and i prefer his old albums (listen his solo album"northwinds ":it is very a powerful and soulful ballad(his finest and best ballad)
I do hope that van halen will tour w dave:I have been expecting this reunion for more 15 years(the first album I bought was "1984" and I had 14 years old)
i do hope that Ed is going well
Have a nice guys

Hey, cut him some slack.

OK, you don't like him becuase you feel he tries too much to be Robert Plant (which I personally don't fully believe), but to call him an asshole? Its well known that he's a bloody nice bloke.

When I think of Eds tone and Coverdales voice together, it is a pretty interesting combo. It could maybe work out, who knows? BTW, Plant himself called David "coverversion". Sour grapes. Plant always sucked ass live, he had to sing all his high stuff an octave lower.

Never understood why people sing nothing but praises aboot Plant cos he SUCKED and still SUCKS live.

I'm not sure if Coverdale still works or performs as 'Whitesnake' sometimes...or...he has perhaps performed as recently as maybe...ten years ago? Maybe more recent than that?

I want to say most of that has been in the United Kingdom and Europe, if memory serves. I can't recall offhand if he has performed in America, or still is. I think he has basically been retired from performing for at least several years now.

Well he still has enough dough to look at the ocean from his house in Malibu. I’m sure his white snake doesn’t rise and strike like it used to. Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson are getting his money selling him blue pills and KY Jelly to get the white snake into a something that uses more plastic and Botox than he does.

Coverdale had (still has?) a house in Income Village. It was up for sale a couple of years ago. I know where the house is. I assume he sold it and moved out. I never heard of him doing local gigs in Tahoe unless he performed under a pseudonym or it was a 1-off or 2 gig engagement. Please people, Tahoe area sucks, stay away!

Yeah... he probably was a better fit for PiL than Whitesnake... even though he only played on one record with them, and never did a live show.

Yeah, although he has been getting various elective reconstructive cosmetic facial surgeries since at least the mid-1980s. Somewhere between the Slide It In album and the 1987 album he got cheek implants and a slight nose job. It has really accelerated since 2000, though. Guy looks way weirder now than he would have had he just left well enough alone.

Whitesnake sucked once Steve Vai joined the band. Epic mismatch.

Once the 1987 album was basically done and Sykes was fired, Whitesnake was over in creative musical terms. Least for me they were. That became apparent to everyone once the follow-up, Slip Of The Tongue, came out. Suddenly, people realized just how much Sykes had brought to the table with the 1987 album.
