IMO, fuck the Ipod! Yeah it's small, but it breaks easily, has no removable battery and so small that you could lose it. Whereas a Hi-Fi is big as fuck, can piss off the neighbors and make a hell of a loud enough sound for a party. Could be a bookshelf size or deck system, so long as the speakers are freakin huge.

i wouldn't want ta walk around with wires hangin' outta my ear, but i like bein' able to plug an mp3 player into my HD, it's an 02 still with a cassette player. although i have a 1984 and EEAS cassettes in the tour pack!

You can have both.
I used to use a Walkman at work and I could take three C90 cassettes with me.
Now I have a 40gb HDD and have thousands of albums at my fingertips.
It makes my job (a bit) more bearable.
I still enjoy playing my LPs on an old fashioned stereo indoors as well.

The ipod is useful enough for fishing trips, the gym etc.
But I have yet to hear an mp3 sound as good as wave (lossless) files.....
Quality over quantity for me ....

Invest in a Bose system for your Ipod.
You'd be amazed at the sound and the amount of sound.

This is how I want my Van Halen...

However my receiver is fed, I want it deep and loud.
Love my Ipod and Bose gear. My loudest stuff is set up in the garage, so I regularly bribe my neighbors.

It's still an MP3 and no Bose or anything will improve on it...
MiniDisc and Atrac is the way to go for quality and quantity...

As far as Vinyl, I have a restored vintage Technics SL-1700 Direct Drive Turntable with a NOS Pickering cartridge...
Sonrisa Salvaje never sounded better...

Nah, I prefer Polk, Klipsch or Yamaha speakers myself. :D

Not dissing all mp3s, just that damn Ipod. Now the Creative Zen would be a nice thing to hook up in the Auxillary outlet if I have to download unreleased stuff or if blank CD-Rs are no longer made.
Is there a Dolby or DTS 5.1 mix for an Ipod yet?
NIN has released both 'The Downward Spiral' & 'With Teeth' in 5.1 mixes & they just blow the stereo mixes away.
The Ipod is nice for the auto or while jogging or whatever, but you can't beat 500 watts of a nice 5.1 mix. JMO.
