yesterday I saw a group shot of his strats and one of those attracted my interest.

http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h217/jhale667/WMDs.jpg

http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h217/jhale667/strat.jpg

I liked it and decided to build a similar guitar for myself.

last night I ordered a strat body from an internet musical instrument store as soon as I logged out here, and it is supposed to arrive soon.
today, I bought a lefty neck in a guitar shop(I'm quick only when I do this kind of thing).

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k1/GAYELVIS/custom_strat/stratneck.jpg

eh?

here I'm gonna write all the details I do to make it.
keep watching and feel free to find fault with my work.

I don't care for the purple burst color on a Strat...

The color itself looks cool, but I think Stratocasters only look good in correct (for lack of a better term) colors...

Know wum sayin' ??

I would've thought the same thing until I saw mine. And pictures don't really do it justice. Plus there's a surprising bonus factor:

CHICKS DIG IT. :D

I wanna see a picture of the body you're getting, Cato....:p

That's quite the big ta do about one guitar.

Keepin it true to Claptons ,he should've gone with a 21 fret neck..

Id take any one of Jhale's strats over that one , any day....

Not sure if they do leftys, but they are weighty, meaty bridges...the trem arm feels great, and they sound excellent. I put one on my friend's '73 Strat and it was like night and day. I've got Fender American vintage bridges on mine, and though I love them, were I ever to build my dream tone-beast (which will be an ash bodied two-tone sunburst relic'ed all to hell ala SRV w/an Ebony Fretboard) it's gonna have one of those....:D

Nice. If I had an American Standard bridge I would swap those out in a heartbeat! I prefer the vintage 'S'-saddle. The Fender American Vintage one is pretty hefty too, as compared to the Mexi-"vintage" bridge, which feels as though it could blow away in a strong wind...they suuuuuuuuuuck......:uck:

this neck has thin frets that I don't like. so I decided to change them to the bigger ones.

I got to ask , Is your stain , paint going to stick to your resin ? If so is it going to have a tint to it ? And if it does gave a tint i can tell you a little trick i used for years in my wood shop ... If you use a good wood puddy you van mix your sanding dust in it and the stain will stick and not have any tint ..

Thank you , Thank you .. I got A tip for the people ( like me ) that plays guitars with floyds . After years of diving you posts will waller out the holes making your trim slide up and killing your intoe .. When you 1st see this happening to your ax just pull the posts( and a lot of peole will put a dail rod in the hole and re drill it but 95 % of the time it will go off center and make a bigger mess ). If you will take super glue and put in the post hole ( use alot ) it ill soke in the wood around the hole will get harder and be less likely to to get larger with heavy use of a floyd..

I've heard of that happening to guitars made out of sub-par/soft woods like basswood and the like, but I've never had that problem...I only use bodies made out of heavy shit like Ash, Mahogany, & Koa....I've got a couple of guitars with Floyds that are like, 20+ years old... Still rock solid. :D

LMAO at "Waller"...haven't heard that term since I left WV eons ago.....

Well youknow here in wv thing tend to '' waller '' I myself like bodys with some girth to them but i do have 2 ibanez guitars and as everyone knows basswood ( len) is the wood that 90% of ibanezs are made from and the 10% you ask plywood , yes the stuff ony good for roof decking ., The best bodys in my mind are the heavy ass ones that make your back crack after a night of jamming ..

Got to ask .. Why did you not just leave it raw ? or rub lenseed oil ?? You can rub about 10 coats of oil in and sand the neck down with 3000 grit and it will make it so slick ,fast and great looking also .But to each there own i guess .. Nice work so far .!!!

Seems to me with the hard work you've spent doing this you could've found a friend or a paint shop that would've given it the spray job it deserves.

Nice little trick i pick up some years a go . Take masking tape and put it between the frets , 4 or 5 layers and use rubbing compound and 2000 grit paper and a 2x4 about 3 feet long to do your frets .. Just remove the nut and you can get them perfict ... By the way killer job !

Cato, would you mind shooting me a pm, telling me where to obtain that decal? PLEEEAAAAASE!!! I've always wanted to do a 50's surf green strat but I want a matching headstock, made to my specs and I don't wanna pay Fender three grand for exactly what I want. ;)

Well, now that I have a real guitar, I've been looking for a real Strat to replace my old Squier.

I thought that this was interesting.

I won't be getting a strat for awhile... if I do get one, it will probably be a fat strat.

I'll stick to Jackson for now.

Do the matching headstock Cato!!!

That axe is soooooo sweet!!!

Seriously, plain headstocks (although cool) are a dime a dozen. Especially with the paintjob you've done... A matching headstock would be the ultimate!!! IMHO

I polished it up with liquid compounds. I used 3 different types.

So what, you liked the looks of it on mine, but then when you got one you don't like it? What don't you like, tuning it upside down?
Or did you get a lefty neck rather than a reversed one, and your side-position markers are now facing the floor? I'm curious...
You may want to give a bit and see if you get used to it, I actually find I prefer the string tension on a reversed headstock neck...
