Osmonds Reuniting for 50th Celebration

LAS VEGAS - The Osmonds will reunite this summer for a TV special celebrating a half-century in the entertainment business.

Seven Osmond siblings _ Alan, Wayne, Merrill, Jay, Donny, Marie and Jimmy _ are scheduled to be onstage Aug. 13-14 at The Orleans Hotel Showroom, publicist Kevin Sasaki said Thursday from Los Angeles.

Tickets for the live shows range from $75 to $125.

The shows will be taped for "The Osmonds 50th Anniversary," which will air next March on PBS stations.

"At first it was just a tribute to my brothers, but it came together as a celebration of everybody. It's out of control," Jimmy Osmond, producer of the special, said Thursday.

"We started so young, you would think 50 years means we're a bunch of old guys. We aren't a bunch of old guys," he said, noting that family members perform frequently before audiences young and old.

I think the older Osmond brothers desperately wanted to be a real rock band, but the record label wanted Donny out front, basically competing with the Jackson 5.

As Crazy Horses proved, the best way for the Osmonds to be a rock band was to keep Donny completely in the background.

Oddly enough, by the time he went solo and ditched his brothers, they had already gone country. Which is one thing Jermaine and Tito never thought of!

I remember talking to Alan Osmond and he was telling me stories of being backstage at a Led Zeppelin show in London. He said the guys in Zep had their families there and it was throwing frisby's around with the Osmonds more than a big orgy and all the stuff Zep had the reputation for. Those old sick dudes that run the church know how to keep the members in line. That whole temple deal is what hammers the church together.

The truth is Mormons have a lot of influence in their organization and in parts of Idaho, Utah, and Arizona. Outside of that nobody cares about them. The church is worth about $40-50 billion which makes it as rich as a company in the middle of the Fortune 500. It's a business that has vast real estate, agricultural, and brodcast company holdings.

Mormonism and Naziism are very simular. There is a underlying belief the white northern Europeans are the promised race. It's the only religion I know of that calls Jews gentiles. Of course the church got in trouble with the NAACP and changed it's stance at least publically.

But Mormonism works because most people in any organization are sheep. They follow the status quo. Hitler wrote about this in Miene Kampf and knew what he had to do to get the masses to follow him.

Mormonism still exists because Brigham Young got the cult into isolated Utah and aggressively marketed it to naive immigrants. If you look at the history of Mormonism it was blatantly anti-American and needed mass influx of European immigrants to work.

Once these suckers got to Utah Brigham owned their ass and the status quo put them in line.

Well there's hope Max. I look at my wife's and my nieces and nephews in Utah and the minority go on missions now and the nieces are more liberal now. The problem is the girls will still marry a RM if his family has money.

My brother-in-law is a bishop down there and he says he has to be careful how he askes people to do things or they tell him to shove it. It sounds like the bishops are losing their authority and the church members are going to do what they want.

I see the church splitting up again in the not too distant future. Some idiot will try and riehn in the membership and create an exoduse in the process. I think Mormonism in Utah has peaked. Especially if more non-Mormons keep moving in.
