Wait until the last 15 - 20 seconds of this clip. Lombardo is a fucking witch on the drums. He should just punch Lars in that little misshapen tennis playing pea head and take his job.

Why would Lombardo leave a decent band to join a washed-up one?

Lombardo Is in the greatest band !! He is one of if not the best drummer of his time .. FUCKIN SLAYER !!!!!! MATALLIC BLOWS that punk Lars is right where he should be .. In a sub par band making shitty music .. The best thing that ever happed to dave m was to get booted from metallica because megadeth is 10 time the band that metallica is well up till dave became a bible thumper !!!

So that's how metallica would sound with a drummer.

All they need now is a decent vocalist, and the band would rule!

Seriously, nice DRUMMING.

That was at Donningotn in 2004 when Lars was sick.

Lomardo is THE drummer for the more extreme kind of metal, but Lars is the drummer for Metallica.

The fact that his abilities are limited actually benefits that band, IMO, because it meant that the music never got too intricate - they were always simple and very powerful.

The intricate time changes worked great for Megadeth and Slayer, but I always liked the fact that Lars was preapred to sit back and play the beat, never over-complicating things. To me, it allowed the riffs room to breathe.

Great clip though Sadist...

I think you're onto something. Seriously.

All they'd need to do then is replace Hetfield, Hammet and that other dipshit and Metallica might actually be a good band again!

Sweet!

You can say what you like, but Hetfield's gotta be one of the best metal riff writers out there.

You never know, they may have another decent record in them....

You mean Lars was not prepared to play anything over-complicated.

Lars always sounds like he's playing on paper heads. Seriously, my eight year old has a better sound coming from her junior kit.

The drum sound on the first four albums, and of course St Anger, isn't very good. I think "...Justice" suffered most heavily as a result.

But live, Lars is surprisingly powerful, he gives it his all. No-one would say that he is a good drummer, or anywhere near as good as most metal drummers of his generation, but the fact that Metallica have made tha work for them by not over-complicating is fine by me.

Well, for the first four albums or so. Partially the black album as well, if nothing else, it's riff full...

He REALLY needs to get over his "melodic" singing though...he's not a melodic singer and the power metal approach (if that's what he's aiming for) doesn't work with him...anger, though, now that works.

Does he still have that haircut?

I agree totally on the singing: he sounds better when he kind of spits the lyrics, if you know what I mean - that's what he did up to the Black Album.

From what I;ve heard, on this record the band is playing in E rather than E minor because his voice sounds better now. I'm not a musician, so I couldn't realyl say how big a change that is.

Not too sure about the haircut, it's borderline stalking when someone keeps track of haircuts!

Oh come on, admit it.

That haircut is REALLY gay looking.

Why did they have to butcher the Mechanix? :(

Dave is an ABSOLUTE MONSTER on the kit!! Interestingly, he was involved with another Mike Patton project called Fantomas. Total experimental, avant garde enjoyment for those bored with life in the physical realm. Anyone who can nail this shit live night after night the way Dave does is a master of his craft. The sound is poor quality but you get the idea.

More Dave with Fantomas. "Cape Fear" from The Director's Cut and "Delirium Cordia" from the album Delirium Cordia. I have a weird record collection for a girl!

Fantomas is well worth a listen for people who are open minded enough.

Lomabardo does something rare amongst thrash drummers: combines power AND speed.

A lot of these guys you hear playing so damn fast only pitty-pat the kit, so the drums had no ummph to them, no thud.

Not a problem for Lombardo...
