THE trash highwater mark.................

Auschwitz, the meaning of pain
The way that I want you to die
Slow death, immense decay
Showers that cleanse you of your life
Forced in
Like cattle
You run
Stripped of
Your life's worth
Human mice, for the angel of death
Four hundred thousand more to die
Angel of death
Monitor the kingdom of the dead
Sadistic, surgeon of demise
Sadist of the noblest blood

Destroying, without mercy
To benefit the aryan race

Surgery, with no anesthesia
Fell the knife pierce you intensely
Inferior, no use to mankind
Strapped down screaming out to die
Angel of death
Monitor the kingdom of the dead
Infamous butcher,
Angel of death

Pumped with fluid, inside your brain
Pressure in your skull begins pushing through your eyes
Burning flesh, drips away
Test of heat burns your skin, your mind starts to boil
Frigid cold, cracks your limbs

How long can you last
In this frozen water burial?
Sewn together, joining heads
Just a matter of time
'til you rip yourselves apart
Millions laid out in their
Crowded tombs
Sickening ways to achieve
The holocaust
Seas of blood, bury life
Smell your death as it burns
Deep inside of you
Abacinate, eyes that bleed
Praying for the end of
Your wide awake nightmare
Wings of pain, reach out for you
His face of death staring down,
Your blood running cold
Injecting cells, dying eyes
Feeding on the screams of
The mutants he's creating
Pathetic harmless victims
Left to die
Rancid angel of death
Flying free

angel of death
Monitor the kingdom of the dead
Infamous butcher,
Angel of death

Angel of death

REIGN IN BLOOD

Trapped in purgatory
A lifeless object, alive
Awaiting reprisal
Death will be their acquisition

The sky is turning red
Return to power draws near
Fall into me, the sky's crimson tears
Abolish the rules made of stone

Pierced from below, souls of my treacherous past

Betrayed by many, now ornaments dripping above

Awaiting the hour of reprisal
Your time slips away

Raining blood
From a lacerated sky
Bleeding its horror
Creating my structure
Now I shall reign in blood!

The thing is in 86 2 disks came out that year that rocked the world .. Ant there is a little something with the two bands .. k king played with megadeth ... megadeth is a great band thay make bands like metallica look like dog shit but slayer in my mind is the better band but i am a true slayer fan !!

A draw for me. :) Megadeth was more classic metal or so and Slayer was one of the first extreme metal bands.

binnie
05-29-2007, 04:12 AM
I'm a huge fan of both bands, and Salyer have clearly been more consistent over the years, and are easily the superior live band (although Megadeth still rule live!)

But for me it's easily Peace Sells....

I have never really been a huge fan of Reign in Blood. It's clearly a classic album, and one that paved the way for much heavier metal, but to me there is just too much hardcore-punk and not enough metal. "Angel of Death" and "Raining Blood" are classic songs, outstanding in every way, but I could live withougt "Piece By Piece", "Necrophobic" and a lot of the other songs on that record. To me, Slayer came into their own with "South of Heaven" and "Seasons in the Abyss", where they really set the bench mark as the heaviest band EVER.

Peace Sells is the best Megadeth album to these ears. I know of others would argue for Rust In Peace, but to me Gar on drums gave Megadeth an extra kick, a fluidity that was missing on those later records, where they started to sound a little mechanical, a little less furious and manic.

I remember when "Reign in blood" came out it was the most amazingly fast and heavy thing you heard in your life.

Now it`s pretty pedestrian.

Like listening to Black Sabbath after hearing Judas Priest`s "Exciter", it`s been surpassed although it was pretty groundbreaking.

I`m going for Megadeth.

Are you saying that Megadeth has better stood the test of time? If so then I agree entirely.

Like you say, "Reign In Blood" was ONLY fast and heavy, in some respects it is quite a one-dimensional record and has therefore been surpassed.

Whereas "Peace...", and some of Slayer's later releases, had so much going on in them than just heaviness - they are still mind-blowing today.

When these 2 first came out, everybody I knew thought they both were the new 'standard' for heavy metal.
I didn't know anybody who liked one but not the other.

I only give 'Reign' the advantage because it has no filler anywhere, & it's sheer viciousness took heavy metal to a whole 'nother level. Brutal riffage!
Tom's vocals are far superior to Mustaines.

Rick Rubin's stellar production also set a new standard for metal. For a recording with this much going on, the clarity of the record is amazing.

'I Ain't Superstitious' qualifies as filler IMO.

Rust is decent too. Saw that tour in T.O. If you hear a bootleg of that show you can hear me yellin at Mustaine to turn up the fuckin vocals. About the end of the fourth song he snaps and starts yippin back at me. It was at The Concert Hall. (small venue 1000 max.) I was 3rd row centre and could'nt hear a word. Plus the fact he was drooling and foaming at the mouth and staggering did'nt help. Pretty funny to think back to that show.(Overkill+Warlock opened btw.)

I like the raw early stuff with Chris and Gar.

But I'd have to say Countdown to Extinction is my fav.

That's true,

However it could be argued that Postmortem and Necrophobia are filler too.

In fact, beside Altar of Sacrifice, Raining Blood and Angel Of Death, I really don't think that Reign in Blood is that strong in terms of quality songs: it's the performance, the intensity, that make it a classic.

I usually agree with your musical tastes, but I think 'Reign' is the ultimate thrash/speed metal album. Ever.
'Postmortum/Raining Blood' being the highlight of the album.
Actually, you can throw 'Epidemic' in there, too. The last 10 minutes of Reign is as good as thrash gets IMO.

Remember the cassette of this? It had the whole album on both sides...LOL... A whole 29 minutes of speed/thrash metal perfection.

I listened to it today because of this thread. Sounds as brutal today as it did 20 years ago...

Chanting lines of blind witchery...to save yourself from extinction!

Fuck, yeah! :killer: Tom's vocals are just evil!

Don't get me wrong, it's a great, great record.

I just think that Slayer got a LOT better on the next two releases, and really took thrash and metal as a whole to a new level. There's just a little too much punk influence in "Reign.." for my tastes...
