Best reason ever!

I read somewhere, some time ago, that Norwegians are more apt to understand the other Scandinavian languages. I know we got a lot of you Finnish boys. You guys know anything about that? (I'm just curious if it's bullshit or what.)

Most likely true, given that Norwegian is kinda like a gumbo of three different languages. (Danish, Swedish and Icelandic, IMO.)

Then again, I'm the guy who thinks the Dutch language is German with heavy slurring and a drawl.

I find Icelandic absolutely disgusting.

Isn't Icelandic the closest language we have today to what the Vikings spoke?

I'm Swedish. Seriously.

It's not an easy language. In fact, I never really learned it...

Yep, I believe it has barely changed since 700 AD (I knew an Icelandic women, spoke perfect English, not even an accent).

Yeah, the pronunciation is very hard for me so far.

Iceland was founded by Norske Vikings and not Swedish Vikings.

Iceland is a good place to get laid and they have some cute girls there.

Icelandic is the most difficult one for me. Swedish is our second national language so by knowing swedish it is also quite easy to read danish and norwegian, and from those, norwegian is a bit easier to speak.

So I manage well with spoken swedish and can communicate a little in norwegian and danish. My written swedish is not perfect but:

Golden AWe säger att det är mycket viktig att klara liten svenska om man vill ha en chans att fukta sig spetsen med alla de vackra flickor från Sverige!

Ally makes a mental note to kidnap Awe so he can help her seduce the cute Scandinavian guy she randomly bumps into on the train :D

You can still just say "hay", or even "hay-hay" if you want to say goodbye (and sound really gay).

Of course if the guy on the train pisses you off, you can say "Hol-shiften".

Well, that's about the extent of my Swedish that I learned growing up... (okay, there's more than that...but not much more)

Because it is so common in this country?

Yeah, but you'll use Spanish more. Since you think it's cool and you have a passion for it, you're more apt to stick with the language on your own study and you can always learn it whenever you have the chance. With Spanish, it's becoming a necessity. It would be more beneficial to learn it in an academic setting.

It's like with me and German. German was available to me and I wanted to learn it so much because my father's side all spoke it and I didn't. He signed me up for Spanish instead, saying I would understand when I was older. And I do, now. It's helped many times. And I still have all these avenues to learn German that I seek out on my own cuz it's something I want to learn. I wouldn't have learned Spanish on my own accord.

I took German in high school because Spanish was full. I then took three years of it in college. I never use it. I have never technically taken Cantonese but picked up the tones in Hong Kong and Cantonese is comming back there; even though, the northern Chinese tried to force Mandarin on everybody.

The truth about China is everywhere has it's own dialect and they don't even understand each other. LOL! The educated speak English and the uneducated use lots of hand signals. Big deal. You still can barter and make deals. Some money and "Fucky, Sucky" still will get you something in most of Asia. LOL!
