Been a fan of the show since I was little..Back when it was funny and very controversial..Now its become very, very, Political and boring..They need to get rid of Lisa on the show, She's ruining it...Anyways..I'm hoping that this means that the Simpsons will end soon..I'll go and see the movie..But The series has jumped the shark quite often..And it's really starting to piss me off..They really should end it with the movie..

Anyways..Thoughts? and did anyone see it yet?

I'll go see a different movie but go into Simpsons for the previews because the Preview for The Dark Knight will be showing.

Well, from what I have read, they've gotten a lot of the original writers back to do it.

The show still comes out with a good episode from time to time. I really enjoyed the "24" one.

I don't think it's jumped the shark it's just a bit more patchy these days. At least a 3rd of the episodes are still great.

If they had cancelled the show we would never have got this recent scene which made me LOL a lot.

I hear the movie is excellent although more of a long Simpsons episode rather than a movie as such.

well i saw it...it was alright. A lot more kids were there than I expected. The story line was cool in all and it wasn't corny. Then again there was nothing awesome about it. I got a few laughs out of it.

B- is my grade for it.

I loved that one...

"There was once a rapping Tomato
Thats right, I said a rapping tomato
He rapped all day
From April to May
And, guess what, it was me"

I think the problem they have is that expectations are just too high for the movie.

Funny thing is I really didn't think much of the show for the first two or three seasons of it, especially when all that Bartmania hype of the early 1990s was in full swing. Thought seasons 4 through 7 were brilliant, but around 1999 the show had a careening quality for me...some of the episodes of the last few seasons didn't really even get a chuckle out of me...

...Dunno if I'm gonna bother seeing it in the theaters or not. Never really had huge expectations for the quality of the material for the movie because I'm assuming most of the people who worked on the script are the same people who've been working on the series for the last several years.

Read that it did about 70 million for the opening weekend, but I'm kinda over the Simpsons in terms of what's going on with it these days. At some point I'll scoop up Seasons 4 through 7 or 8 on dvd.

The first 2 seasons were a bit shaky. I mean, Matt Groening admits now, they really didn't know what they were doing.

But, they've got a lot of the writers that left back to do the movie...so it should be better than the overall quality recently.

I always find it watchable, even when it doesn't make me laugh.

Maybe the writers that came back will stay...

I saw the movie last night - I thought it wasn't too bad, although I wasn't expecting anything remotely spectacular from it. The animation was excellent. They really should've done this movie 10 years ago when the show was at it's peak in terms of it's humour.

I consider myself a hardcore Simpsons fan, although I haven't bothered to watch the new episodes since 2001. The classic period was during seasons 5-8. It seems the show went downhill ever since of the death of Phil Hartman, who played the great characters like Troy McClure and Lionel Hutz. After seeing the movie - after a long wait - they really should put the show to rest now.

Bud of mine at work who shares my sensibilities about the show took his kid to see it, told me it was good, although it seemed a bit short.

Will probably go see it this coming weekend. Was no way in fuck I was gonna bother trying to see it on opening weekend.

The movie was too fucking political. Not that funny anymore either.

I heard that FOX might take The Simpsons out of their sunday night line-up because it is losing viewers and making little money. Apparently American Dad is the only show doing worse than the Simpsons on FOX.

I expected that the movie would be worser than I thought. For a simpsons fan its a must. Its surely better than any of the episodes of the last 18th season.

I saw it in Friday very late at 01:15am, had to wait until 12:15am to have my car fixed!!! I must admit I fell asleep after 30 minutes, I really did try to keep my eyelids open, anyway I woke up 10 minutes before the end.

Conclusion: I don't think it can be made into a movie, it just seemed one long episode than a film. The formula has worn off and Simpsons have been around too long that you get bored , the whole thing is too predictable. Maybe if they used real people instead of cartoons it might be a bit more refreshing. anyway the film will not disappoint Simpson fanatics.

Saw it today.

It was good. Not incredible, not awesome, not great. Just good. Hey, considering how many movies flat-out suck, being just good is an accomplishment.

Agree with others that it felt like basically an elongated episode. There were a dozen or so good lines/jokes that made me laugh out loud. Also agree that the animation was pretty good. Thought it could've had more emphasis on the secondary characters, but Ralph Wiggum, Grandpa Simpson and Martin Prince (of all characters) got off some funny one-liners.

Wasn't, by way of comparison (inasmuch as the shows are comparable), as funny as the South Park movie...and agree the Simpsons movie came out probably 9 or 10 years too late. Would kinda like to see the series wind down as well, rather than hang in there a few years too long (a la the Flintstones when that homo the Great Gazoo showed up and Pebbles and Bam Bam started singing).

I'm a big fan and hearing that some of the old writers are back makes me want to actually go and see it.

We had some pretty long discussions about this in college, and the consensus was that around season 3 things got heavy up to about season 8. I personally think pinchy the lobster was the last great episode.

If it was a movie-length version of the crap they usually put out now, I doubt I'd even rent the thing.

The Simpsons really did achieve greatness at one point. The Lemon Tree (lemon of troy) episode comes to mind but there are others.

I'm not even sure if I'll bother purchasing it when it's out on dvd, unless there's some juicy Special Features on it that might be worth seeing.

The Simpsons were truly a legendary show at one point. I remember the fun times when a new episode was to be aired it was a MUST watch, or a blank VCR tape with a timer was required. Some of my favourite episodes are Freddy Quimby on trial "Chow-deer", any of the Side Show Bob returns, 22 Short Stories About Springfield, Frank Grimes. Looking back now I think maybe they should've done a Seinfeld - and gone out on a high.

Homer the Beer Baron was up there among my fave episodes.

Kinda a bit too late for them to go out on a high a la Seinfeld.

I never got the Seinfeld thing at all.

It's always cuntfused me. I really liked Cheers, Frasier, early MASH, I think Curb Your Enthusiasm is brilliant.

Even Becker is ok but Seinfeld to me was completely unfunny.

Must be a cultural thing..cue annoying bass line fill...

Cheers!

You can't stand Frasier?

Frasier is one of the wittiest, cleverest the and possibly the best sitcom of all time. Not to mention the only American show that can pull off farce.

I agree that it hit its peak a long time ago but it's still a good show. In some ways though, The Simpsons are a victim of their own success. They raised the bar so high that they have trouble living up to their legacy. In some ways they've spoiled the audience. If you had a time machine and went back to 1987 and took with you the crappiest Simpsons episode and aired it, the people from that day would have considered it fucking hilarious.
