Is Moving Pictures considered prog?

My top ten would have to be a combination of early (70's & 80's) Rush & Pink Floyd albums.

Hell yes.

"YYZ", "The Camera Eye" and "Vital Signs" are about as prog as they come.

Must be. The one I have, "Secret Treaties", could also be defined as "prog". I should have included it in my list, instead of "abacab". :o

They're amazing musicians, but I could never listen to a whole album - I think you have to be into guitar a lot to get really hooked, don't you?

Great call, Wawazat! :)

I only have one Gong album, the double "Live etc" from 1977.
But there's a real gem I've kept from my late uncle's collection, a 7"-record featuring founding singer/guitarist Daevid Allen, "Est-ce que je suis"/ "Hip hypnotize you", which is amazingly funny and inventive, dating back from 1968 or so (there are references to the 1968 springtime "revolution" in Paris, like "Tonight I'm dancing in Les Halles/ Waltzing on the streets - all naked!!!").
That Da"e"vid Allen, an Aussie musician who came to live in France c. 1968, is a curious character, to say the least. He's like the Syd Barrett of GONG, who carried on touring and recording very cool stuff after his departure, though.
There's a version of "Est-ce que je suis" on "Live etc.", but they do it like it would be just any song, whereas it isn't at all.

What no Zappa anyone? But then Frank might not be considered prog. He's kinda in a musical universe of his own.

I think Zappa was just in his own universe, nevermind musical universe.

Great rock and roll for sure....don't know if I consider it "progressive rock" though. I suppose it has some elements, mainly great musicianship.

Now this...this, my friends, is classic prog at its finest:

(bass players and squire fans - notice the fender jazz bass)
