Oh Jesus. I just had flashbacks...:D

You have to admit though that the show was a classy forum of civilized political discourse regardless one's, or the guests', political beliefs.

Morton really evoked a golden age of journalistic commentary and debate reminiscent of Edward R. Murrow's confrontational stances against McCarthyism.

You and me both, bro...

I vividly remember watching Mort's show on late night TV back in the college dorms with my buddies. That was a classic show.

More flashbacks here....

Many late nights around 88/89 were spent with friends and lots of beer laughing our asses off at old Mort, God rest his soul.

This Morton Downey's greatest moment on television!

I loved Mort. Watched him in high school, after coming home from shit jobs, and in the Army.

He certainly was a showman genius that forced young men to become more politically aware and to think. And he forced people to become passionate for their beliefs...

On the negative side though, I think he was part of the downward slope of political confrontation and argument over discourse and accommodation. It was almost an authoritarian-conservative arrogance that "I'm so right, I should kick your ass!"

Maybe he was just reflecting the times or maybe it's always been that way to an extent. But Mort later regretted the yelling and screaming shtick, as well as the chain-smoking.:(

LOL. Watching some of those clips, it's really amazing that they allowed that show on the air at all. This sort of stuff would be limited to premium pay channels nowadays.

No doubt he inspired both the Jerry Springer talk show format, as well as the confrontational style of right wing radio.

Shame on you WARF! She wasn't a "hooker." She was a religious, celibate-stripper and part time dominatrix....:p

I had a girlfriend like that once.:(

Fucking Mort - I went to the taping of the gun control show. Funny as hell. He would rag on the guys he was against to rile them up during the breaks. Of course there were two planted audience members who had questions.

Not to mention the FL posting styles of Brie, ELVIRA, WARHAM, and a slew of others in here... :D

Whereas, we on the left looked more towards the Phil Donahue approach.

I was living in New York in the late 80's. All these shows just remind me of what you would over hear on the streets and in the resturaunts.

You know it's old stuff because people still believe in God. LOL!

Just don't add an "F" at the end of your name. It's gettin' too fucking confusing enough around here already.

He tried that already...

I told him to get the "F" outta here....

I thought about that, WARF. Who knows, I might change it back. It'll give POJ something to do.
