They are pretty much the same guitar with only slight differences. What do you guys/gals prefer and why?

I have been looking at 4 specific guitars.

Les Paul Standard Honeyburst
Les Paul Standard Goldtop
Les Paul Classic Cherryburst
Les Paul Classic Goldtop

I like all four of them quite a bit, but I'm just curious who likes what and why.

Thanks for your help.

Les Pauls and me just don't get along, man. They sound fantastic but they dig into my body when I play them sitting down. I think Panamark has a couple of Les Pauls.

I really like Gibson SG's, dude. I played one in my local guitar store a couple of weeks ago. It was light as fucking, tight sounding and played beautifully.

Tech 21 PSA-1 analog pre-amp
Digitech 33-B Super Harmony Machine (mainly used for chorus and occasional harmony)
Digitech DSP 256 (Used for delays ,verbs and multi-taps)
Marshall EL 34 50/50 Dual Mono Block Power amp

Pedalboard

Boss tuner pedal>>BossSuper flanger>Boss CE- stereo chorus(early 80's)> E.H. Small Stone phase shifter>Ibanez Screamin Demon Wah>>Danelectro "Chilli Dog" octave pedal(best $60 I ever spent)>> BBE Sonic Maximizer>>>to amp.......

Other stuff I'll interchange (depending on my mood)>>> Dunlop Roto-Vibe>>Boss 10 Band EQ>> E.H. Big Muff:eatit: >>Early 80's (stereo)Boss delay>>> custom made Talk Box

I got hooked on SG's when Musicians Friend was bought out by Guitar Center and they were moving a bunch of inventory cheap. They had a Epiphone double neck and I plugged it into a Marshall amp and the thing sounded great and I couldn't believe the resonance the body got. I played a Guild SG styled guitar and didn't like it and played a Gibson SG that was great.

I have an Epi G400 (Three Pickup Model) and a Gibson 1961 Reissue. Both rock and my Epiphone is still stock, for some reason the pickups sound fine on it. Just use a wider strap to keep the neck diving down and an SG will do everything the heavier Les Paul will do. Also if you play a Strat, the SG is less of a switch than the Les Paul is.

I also like how you can easily play all the way up the neck and if you pick up the guitar and shake it you gat a cool effect from the neck flexing. These are fragile guitars though but they rock!

Nope...came that way...an older cousin of mine gave it to me in the late 1980's...after my Pappy had died....

I added the stickers:cool:

The paint job is really hit...back of the guitar has a huge bare spot...right down to the wood....

That looks like a nice rig, man. You can't buy decent "old school" rack gear here(in England).

I know that effect you are on about with the necks on SG's.

You are right about the switch between an SG and Strat as well.

The one thing the suprised me about that SG I played was how good it is for Shred guitar. I was burning loads of Malmsteen licks on it with alot of ease, man.

Hey, Have you ever played a Stevie Ray Vaughn Strat???

They are fucking great for Shreding as well.

Stellar! The modeling is mind blowing. Pure analog ,very warm/very responsive. The only thing digital is the channel switching. Mutt Lange apparently uses the PSA-1 as a vocal pre-amp.

Bass sounds awesome through this as well. Monster tone and great bandwidth. BTW it's also great for d.i. !

Actually my cheap Epiphone SG has real low action that doesn't buzz and with the rear pickup with some middle pickup dialed in and the tone knob full trebble she rips! I also can nail great BB King sounds with that guitar. A good resonant SG can sound like a hollow body.

I have a 72 Strat reissue that I can haul ass on. Real low action and it manages to stay in tune amazingly well and strings last forever on it. It doesn't eat strings like most guitars do.

Tech 21 is also a great company to deal with. They actually pick up the phone and will talk with you. I think I'm going to buy one of their power amps.

Really? Marshall still sells the power amp pictured and they even added a neat EL-84 powered low watt power amp that's rackmountable.

The catalogs I get here in the states are full of rackmountable gear. Most of it is marketed for studio or live sound though. The guitar section may have the preamps and maybe some tube power amps.

Rack gear fell out of fashion for guitars but it's still used for the PA and studio sound. It's still out there.

I like the standard better. If memory serves me, they both have the same neck. Different pickups. the classic has some "aged" looking parts I think, green tuners and/or inlays. Just think the standard is cleaner

The Marshall cab had 4 shitty Jensen speakers in it...the head was all fucked up. That pile of shit belonged to a friend of mine. He still hasn't fixed it.

The Fender in question is a 1960 Super. The original speakers had been replaced with late sixties super reverb pieces of shit when I acquired it. The vibrato is probably 60-70%....total NON-ISSUE.:) The original cord has been replaced with a safer one.

It's fucking brutal....lots of distortion @ 1300 hours.

I have a blackface mid 60's Bandmaster that is a rock machine. Distorts like a Marshal almost with more character in the tone actually. Sound great through a 1960B cab.

Never owned a real Les Paul.

Any time I got the money in hand I would always buy a Flying V.

Why not turf the Jensens and throw in some 30 watt Celestion Greenbacks. The Jens might sound better in the Fender. ;)

I ain't messin' with the Fender. Have you priced the original speakers from that thing? Unbelievable. Check this out.

Specifications: 18 watts of all tube
Class "A" power, 2 EL84's, tube
rectifier, 15" JBL D130 speaker,
cabinet design and manufacture by
JBL.:D Volume and tone
controls, standby and bright switch.
Completely Hand Wired, Point to Point.

While certainly not practical, this setup can deliver tonal quality above and beyond any expectations. ;)
